Your thoughts on Coronado Springs...

We've just been booked there for June. I've never stayed in it but have seen some nice pictures so I thought I'd ask the experts. Those who have stayed there what do you think? Is there anything I should know about it? Thanks in advanced. WDW Here I come.

Pam...either one you would love. They are both great resorts. I would like to stay at the AKL again my next trip. I really enjoyed the hotel when I went down two Christmas's ago. This is where we were suppose to stay last November, but alas we couldn't. Maybe you could talk your group into staying there in Oct/Nov and I could meet you down there :animwink:. Either way, you would love them both. I know you are a diehard DIXIE fan, but the AKL is one of my favorites now.

I stayed at the AKL last Oct. It is such a beautiful resort. Since she hasn't been there yet, I would really like for her to stay there so she can see all of the animals. She's a BIG animal lover!

Okay, I'm sure this a dumb question, but here goes -

Why would Disney contract out a food court in one of the resorts (or anywhere on property for that matter)?

When it comes to my own vacation planning, I'd like to stay at CS, but I won't because when I stay in a resort I do eat in the food court and I will definately not pay 15% extra to eat in a food court.

That's just me though...

another thing to watch out for is the smaller arcade. There's an arcade in the main building and other than the Ms. Pac-man machine not working when we went a few weeks ago, it was fine. But there's a smaller arcade close to one of the pools and apparently they put all the machines that don't work in this arcade. Some of the machines/games trick you by pretending they're ok, but the controllers don't work or only work if you want to make left turns all the time and the other machines don't fool around and just take your money. There was no attendant or anything either.
Other than that its our favourite moderate (tied with pofq)

AKL?

I know this is not the orginal post question, but I was reading through and saw where kingdomkonsulant ? I might have that name wrong, stayed at AKL in Oct.
I really want to stay there in Oct of this year, but I have to convince my husband, Marc, that it is worth the money.
He thinks it's a waste of money to pay for a deluxe resort and he says that in the heat of Florida the resort will "smell".

What is your personal thoughts on this resort in Oct?
Is it worth it? Did it "smell?" I feel so funny asking that question, but it's part of his agrument.

We usually stay at Dixie Landings, but last trip we stayed at All star sports because of the great discounts Disney is offering. I wish we had 'peaked' at AKL on our last visit. I would have a better feel of this resort.

Help me convince him to spend the extra money! :D

Of course, this is an open question to anyone that can help!

My 'wants' is to stay at AKL in mid-Oct. for 5 nights.

We stayed at the AKL in December 2001, but went by this past May for three dinners. Obviously in December, there isn't much of any "smell" due to the cold weather. If your husband is concerned about the "smell" of the animals (I am referring to the actual animals  ) outside in the warmer months, you need not worry. Disney is Disney...and not even the smells are out of place. The only smell that I can remember is the delicious food smells in the lobby. The animals are kept clean at all times and well cared for. They also have groundskeepers 24/7 to keep the savannahs up. So, no...there aren't any smelly animals you would have to worry about, except for that guy in line who forgot to bring the deordorant :hurl: . Hope this helps

I just stayed at the Coronado in December. I liked the resort. The rooms were decent. The pool area was awesome even if I didn't actually get to go in it. The resort was nice if you like to walk or ride the bus alot. It's very spread out. We were in Building 7B and it was a ten minute walk to the main hall. But we were close to a bus stop so that made it easier. I wouldn't stay there again but my overall experience was pleasant.

They have multiple stops around the exterior of the resort...like CBR or PO. I am hoping that is what you are asking. We had our car with us when we went there, so we just drove to the front if we needed something. The walk was about a 10 minute one for us, we were in the very back.

I've stayed at CS twice, and it is a nice resort...just a little spread out. One knock against it is if there is a large convention during your visit, everything is crowded (dining facilities, bars, gift shop, seating areas, etc.). This happened that last time my wife and I were there.

It didn't ruin our trip, but did make it less than perfect.

Just my two cents. I agree with others that this would not be my first choice when we return to DW again.

We stayed at Coronado twice and enjoyed it much more the second time, knowing what to expect. Now I would rate it better than CBR.
Yes the "food court" sucks. I didn't think much of the indoor bar either. BUT for quick snacks there is a small counter next to the Peppermarket entrance - very handy. As one other person had mentioned, Maya has an awesome breakfast buffet that's not very expensive.
One place I really enjoyed was the pool area's bar. They serve great food there like chicken wings and sandwhiches. A great lunch spot!
Loved the big hot tub too!
Both times I was placed in reasonably convenient rooms half way between the main building and the pool, near bus stop 3 I think. Could walk easily to everything. But there are a couple of spots that are WAY out there, so check the map!

We are thinking about staying at corando in the fall (september or october). my question is how cheap has anyone ever stayed there at that time of the year just so i get an idea. I am going to try to find a code to use when it gets closer to the time to book the room

Hey Bears, I have stayed at the Moderates (which are all the same price incidentally) for slightly under $100 a night I think is the cheapest in recent memory. Spetember will ABSOLUTELY be cheaper than October( Different Disney Season) but in October 2 things are going on towards the end of the month(sorta) Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (separate ticket) and the Food & Wine festival in EPCOT. You are talking a difference of about 10-15 dollars a night more in October, but depending on what the schedule is, it might be worth it to go then. Belle

I stayed at CS in April of 1999... Very nice and pleasant resort... It had a very festive flair to it, even though the pool bar is called "Siestas"... The very much enjoyed the pooll area, the Dig Site, and fell it to be one of the better moderate pool complexes...

The rooms were sufficient size, with just the right amount of Latin influence... not too much, not too little... sufficient size, not too small, but not too big...

Transportation - if you are staying at the Casitas, your bus will have to make all the rounds around the resort stopping at the joint Rancho and Cabana stop and at El Centro, at least in 1999...

Casitas are more urban, closer to El Centro, the main area

Ranchos are far away out... Do not plan to stay there if you want to walk more than 5 minutes for a refillable mug refill...

THe food court - I liked it... Very clean, consistent, quality food, and etc.... THe chairs are heavy, and the included gratuity may surprise you, and the fact that it is run by the same people who run SAn Angel inn @ Epcot, but for what it is (and considering you're at expensive WDW) it's fine...

Very nice themeing throughout the resort...
tranquil spots and benches everywhere, little nooks and alleys to explore...

Very nice resort!

You won't be dissatisfied... Quite the contrary!
:D :)
