Your First TS - Ever

Mine was back in 1983, when EPCOT had the "TV" screens right in front of SSE to make reservations. I was a freshman in high school, and my "band" buddies and I chose the Italian restaurant at the time. I don't remember much though about the restaurant.
Didn't eat at a TS restaurant again until 2007, and it was Tusker House Character Breakfast.

I think ours was in about 1990 at Tony's in MK. It was turrible. Everything tasted like Chef Boyardee (sp?). Ever since then we try to limit TS to Epcot or the hotels.

It does amaze me that they can't hire a chef for Tony's that can prepare edible Italian food.

And I never really thought of it, we tend to do Epcot or Resort TS too. I can't say I ever thought that out.

2011 Yak & Yeti. I suppose this is why this restaurant holds a very special place in my heart. My very first meal EVER in the world. I remember my fiends wanting to get the special they have, and they did thought the food was pricey, I thought I'm here so I'm going to get what I want. I had the vegetable Lo Mein and boy was it delicious!!

Because of that I took my sister on our trip in 2012 there as her first ever Disney meal also and will take my whole family there this summer :in pain::inlove::in pain:

I CAN'T WAIT!! :)

Mine wasn't until 2010 at 1900 Park Fare for my kids first trip. Before that, food wasn't a priority and vacations needed to be much cheaper so we always ate quick service. 1900 PF was great because my daughter was 5 and fascinated with the Princesses. She wore her Cinderella dress and got extra special treatment from Prince Charming which she still remembers to this day. The food itself wasn't all that memorable since it's a buffet...except the Strawberry Soup!! I could eat that stuff all day!

June 2010, first day of our first family WDW trip, at Chef Mickey's for dinner. CM will always be special to us. We were able to go again on our second trip October 13. Three families were to go on the trip, but we weren't going to re-do any TS meals from the first trip. One family cancelled, so we did take some of their meal slots. We ate at CM for breakfast & I stood in the buffet line in front of Buddy the Cake Boss. I didn't know it was him, but I figured it out by the conversation he was having with his friend. People bothering him for photos while he was trying to have breakfast with his family. Craziness. We don't plan to do TS on our trip next year besides F! dinner package @ H&V, but we'll see. DH & DD started pin collecting on our last trip. I got a pin for each resort we've stayed at & CM & HDDR.

I guess i am the old timer here.....

My first was the Empress Lilly Character Breakfast in 1983, in the area formally known as the WDW Village ( now DTD/soon to be DIsney Springs).

I was all of 12...and it was my 2nd visit to WDW proper, specifically to experience the then new EPCOT Center.
At that time i was living in FL with my Mom, and she booked the meal thinking it would be a fun adventure.

I vividly remember the meal, as back then it was so unusual and RARE to actually see the Disney Characters at all.
You have to remember that back in that early period, the only time you really saw the Characters was in the daily Parade on Main Street, or in television ads.
No Meet & Greets like today.
Absolutely rare-as-heck seeing them walking around the Park...and just *bumping* into them, despite what marketing at the time was showing you.

Actually getting to experience some one-on-one time with them was unheard of back then....so the Character Breakfast concept was introduced to address that issue.
Even back then, Guests really wanted opportunities to interact with the Characters.
The Empress Lilly was one of the first (if not THE first) to offer such a experience...and on a beautiful river boat setting to match!

What i remember most about the meal was how much Pinocchio was trying to get me to smile.
I was being mellow and not becoming overly enthused ( mostly because of foreknowledge regarding the Characters and their *friends* at hand...) but Pinoc was determined to get me to crack a smile.

He ended up sticking his gloved hand into my water glass, and then flicked his splayed fingers at my face spraying water droplets all over me.
He did this twice...as if disgusted with this grumpy kid would would not crack a smile for him.
It worked..it made me smile in the end.

A sign of the times perhaps, but i think about how today if a character did this to a child in front of a parent they would probably be threatened with a lawsuit.
Said parent would probably freak out and demand heads roll, instead of taking it as a playful in-character prank, which we did at that time.

Ah yes...the ol* days of yore.

:)

In my adult life, 2008 Coral Reef. I know people puke all over Coral Reef but we enjoyed it, and my 4 year old LOVED it. We will be going back for our 5th trip this fall and are doing Coral Reef for the first time since that trip. DD is psyched!
Coral Reef was my favorite meal last trip. Love the atmosphere too.

My first memory of Disney was the family vacation. My dad, stepmom and stepsister went for our parents 4 yr anniversary. The restaurant in Mexico is my first TS memory. I was amazed. Sooo gorgeous and just way cool. Loved the boat ride. My stepsister loved her margaritas. I however don't care for Mexican food but always love going in the restaurant.

We're always asking about favorite this or that, least favorites, traditions, and so on. I thought it might be fun to find out where everyone experienced their first ever WDW TS meal...and any other info you might care to share on the experience.

Mine was in 1985 in Morocco.

I'm pretty sure I had an entrée version of chicken bastilla, but it was different than what's on the menu now ... as I distinctly remember it being very heavy on the raisins. I also remember our server telling me how I'd normally be eating it with pigeon meat. I was a middle school age kid, so I was torn between thinking that was cool and being grossed out. It was an interesting meal, but I seem to remember the menu options feeling really limited back then. It was also frustrating for my dad because he had made a short list of places he wanted to try, but they were all booked for what he considered "suitable dinner hours." Still, it was always cool booking your dining with a CM by video screen.

So, tell me about your first ever TS meal at WDW :)
Ours was Chef Mickey's in 1992 for dinner, then breakfast with Mickey and Friends the next morning at Empress Lily (now Fulton's Crab House) and our first on property resort was Dixie Landings :)

Not sure of the year. I think it was 5th grade, so maybe 1993? King Stefan's Table (which is not Cinderella's Royal table).

I don't remember a whole lot about it. I remember that the butter for rolls was in the shape of Mickey and I had mixed feelings about eating him. LOL I remember that the french fries were shapes...maybe the smiley face ones? and that I didn't like them. And I remember having a deep conversation with the family about why in the world would the name name the restaurant in Cinderella Castle after a character from Sleeping Beauty?!

1987 the since extinct Minnie's Menehune Breakfast. I was only a few months old, but I've seen family videos and old photos of the event. I do remember going there while growing up before it closed. Sorry, 'Ohana, but you have nothing on that old breakfast.

I don't know for sure because I first visited the parks as a little kid, but I would probably go with Liberty Tree in the early 1980's because my mom used to talk about us eating there and their great lemon sherbet drink. And I know we never ate there together from 1987-to our last trip together in 2009.

2010 - Wolfgang Pucks in DTD for my birthday. Fantastic sea bass, the sangria is amazing and I cannot remember what we ate for dessert, but I guarantee it was chocolate!

Also remember running from the bus stop in Market Place to West Side to get to the restaurant because apparently the DTD buses forgot about our resort - we were at the stop with plenty of time (30-40 minutes) before our reservation and watched many of the park buses go by, but no DTD. I learned after the meal that there is a stop by Westside near Raglan Road, so no need to have run - but at least I burned off the calories before I ate them. :D

1995 Liberty Tree Tavern. My first trip to Disney as a 5 year old and I was wearing my Belle dress (her blue dress, not the yellow!) I was really interested in coloring the menu apparently.

2004, Liberty Tree Tavern, our first full day of my very first trip to WDW.
Had no idea about ADRs at all in those days, so just casually strolled up & asked for a table for 2 for lunch, and we were in :) How times change!
