Update:1-19-2007

Hey guys,
I've recorded several of my favorite shows about Disney on TiVo. My wife got frustrated because the TiVo is full of Disney stuff. She accidently deleted my show about DL Paris to make room for some chic show. (Don't hate her, she's really nice and tolerates my Disney addiction). Anyway, I've begun taking them off the TiVo and putting them on the computer. It's all FREE. I've edited out all the commercials. They are organized by category.

Here's an update that contains all the links...

Oh man you totally rock!!!

I use google video to put disney videos on my iPod. Tonight when I get on my computer that I hook up to my ipod, I'm most definately downloading the HS musical pep rally, jack sparrow show, hollyday parade and all of your tv shows. I would enjoy (and really appreciate) all of the travel channel shows, as I no longer get that channel. If I had to choose what I'd like to see first, it would be:

TC Made in America - Animitronics (I havent seen this one)
TC Best Water Parks - Blizzard Beach #2 (I havent seen this one either)
Full House goes to WDW (Its a personal favorite)

Thanks again! And let us know when you put up new stuff!

I'd love to get TC Made in America - Animitronics, and I'm also loking for Fan's guide to WDW, I have two versions of fan's guide from mousebits but neither of them will play. The only videos I have that I can't find the codec for out of about 50 vids.

Just don't get caught....Disney really tramps hard on this kind of thing, it's again copyright rules if you are using their shows...

Haven't converted and uploaded anything on that list yet. Just wanting to see if it would be worth the time and effort. Looks like there is.

Our weather is supposed to turn aweful tonight in Okieland due to an impending ICE storm. Should this happen and power or computer fail, I'll get them up when the storm goes away. I'll have them all up within a week hopefully.

I'm not attempting to profit from this at all, just put them available to the public. I've found many ABC shows on google video already. I'm not claiming that they are original works, just copies placed into the public domain. If I'm asked to remove, then I will of course.

This has nothing to do with the public domain. Public domain refers to a production so old, the copyright has expired. None of your videos apply.

You might not be profiting from this. But you know all those people who subscribed to the original Napster? And other peer-to-peer file-sharing sites like Napster, to share music files or short videos? THEY weren't doing it for the money, either, and some of them were fined thousands of dollars and threatened with imprisonment. Because the copyright holders felt people who were downloading music for free weren't going tou to pay for it.

Google Video & Youtube get hit with cease-and-desist orders all the time for allowing copyrighted material on their sites. It depends on the copyright holder to raise a stink. Disney doesn't seem to crack down on people posting videos of old attractions or their trips to WDW as much. I can only guess they feel those homemade videos serve as free advertising for the parks themselves.

But when it comes to television programs, professionasly produced, broadcast TV shows, someone who's watching it online, for free, with no commercial interruptions, might not watch it when it's on TV again. It threatens the ratings, and thus threatens the rates the television network in question can charge advertisers. Thus, they argue that it threatens the bottom line. And with todays portable media mortables like ipods, it also threatens the ability of Disney and/or the owners of the program to sell a copy of the program on itunes or on DVD. Depending on the program, you could be dealing with more than Disney. Whoever produced the program with Disney or for Disney could also get their knickers in a twist. For instance, I don't know if Disneyt owns The Food Network in whole or in part. So if The Food Network produced their own Disney specials, then The Food Network has the right to clamp down if you're posting their programs, even if they happen to be about Disney.

I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, and you're more than welcome to do what you want. It's entirely possible (perhaps even likely) that nothing will happen. But people have gotten huge fines for doing exactly what you're doing. And you shouldn't feign surprise or outrage if the copyright holders decide to take you to task on this.

I've noticed that it really depends on the nature of the media, the creator, the age and the intended use...

Nature - If it's The Little Mermaid, for example, then you can be sure it's coming down. Anything that can generate direct revenue will definitely be protected. Yes, some shows may generate advertising revenue, which leads into the next point...

Creator - Disney is remarkably lax when it comes to video of the theme parks. Why? Free advertising. It is really that simple. And I think that's why the aren't nearly as concerned with the advertising revenue. It's simple logic to see that the more eyes seeing the wonders of WDW, the better. Otherwise, why would they be willing to send out the Planning DVDs every year? However, if say, TC paid for the show and intended to generate ad revenue associated with it...yes, there could be an issue but with TC, not Disney.

Age - For example, one of the TC shows I was viewing was featuring the very new and intense Mission:Space. Old news. It's now YOMD with a bunch of new stuff. I could see Disney wanting it down because it may distort their carefully crafted marketing message, and if it's old enough, it might be good vintage stock for a retro DVD.

Intended Use - Simple. Selling the footage for cash could be problematic.

Do a search on Google, YouTube and the like - you will see plenty of movies featuring parks, attractions, etc...Viral Video Marketing!

The only thing I'd add to "Intended Use" is trading. To the bean counters at, say, The Food Network, my having a copy of "WDW Weddings" and selling you a copy, or me trading you for a copy of "Holidays at Walt Disney World" still potentially affect any future airings or sales of either one of those shows.

But I do agree with you that they're much more lax with footage of "The Johnsons at Epcot" then they are with someone posting the Roseanne two-parter at WDW on youtube.

thank you

My 5-year-old daughter is hooked on Disney and my husband and I think it's wonderful. Unfortunately...I erased our TIVO version of the 2006 Christmas Parade. My daughter has not stopped crying and asking for it for 3 days. Can you send us a copy of the entire parade??? She relives it every time she watches it and pretends to be there. It is ever so cute. I'm kicking myself for not having saved the recording. Help!

And...thank you for all the other recordings on your Google site. You help kids relive memories and for that you are a true angel.
