Trip Report You Can't Beat This Deal...Two Trip Reports for the Price of One! *COMPLETED*

Hi Everyone!

As some of you may know, it's been a very busy, Disney filled, end of the summer for us! After scrambling to find new vacations plans thanks to Hurricane Lane and having just returned from a solo trip to attend the Disney Institute Approach to Quality Service course, I have almost been able to get all of the photos downloaded and I'm nearly ready to report on our adventures.

Both trips we're remarkably different from what our typical Disney trip would look like but both were fantastic experiences and I'm really looking forward to sharing them with you.

I am planning on uploading the last of our pictures from the camera tonight and will start diving into the details very soon!

Oh, one thing I forgot...For those who have followed our reports in the past, you would know I am a hoarder of Disney toiletries. The fact that I was not able to significantly add to my already ridiculous collection was the only let down of staying at the French Quarter.

Thankfully, as you will see, the Grand was able to more than satisfy my obnoxious habit.

I always love your reports, I love how you describe your experiences in detail. You have a very beautiful family. It sucks that Hawaii did not work out, but it looks like you definitely made the best of it! Looking forward to your solo trip. :)

Thanks for reading and for the very kind words!

The solo trip turned out far different than the family trip but almost made me appreciate WDW even more once it was over.

Loved your trip report. Looks like you all had a great time. I think it's really great that the two MILs get along so well that they can travel together with you and enjoy each other.

It is kinda scary how well they get along. It's definitely nice for both of them and they do tend to travel together quite a bit. They've already been talking about taking another trip to Hawaii together to make up for the one that got away.

It certainly makes the family gatherings that much better that there isn't any angst or awkwardness between the families.

After some much-welcomed pool time, a few frosty beverages and a little relaxation, we all went back to our rooms to get ready to head over and spend the evening at DHS. We had dinner reservations at 50’s at 520 pm and FPs for a few different rides after dinner and before closing.

We all met up once we were ready to go and made our way to the bus stop. No threat of rain this evening so we were happy to pack a little lighter and enjoy the parks up until closing time. We didn’t wait overly too long for the bus to arrive but instead of heading straight to DHS, we did the tour of Riverside to pick up guests staying there.

I really enjoyed the look of Riverside but I do like that there is only one stop at the French Quarter. Without having to roll through the multiple stops at Riverside, you’re in and out very quickly and there never seemed to be huge crowds waiting to either get to a park or head back to the resort.

We arrived at the Studios with more than enough time to comfortably make the long walk from the bus stop to get through security at the front entrance. As we entered the park I dashed ahead to make a quick pit stop in Toy Story Land for a Slinky Dog return time. Kelly, the girls, and the moms made their way to 50’s. Along the way they stopped for a quick PhotoPass shot. Not sure why but we also had great pics of this lovely couple!

I met back up with everyone outside of the diner and we all checked in. The place was nowhere near as busy as our December visit and we had no problem finding a place to relax in the living room while we waited to be seated.

As always, very cool hidden details that makes for a true Disney experience.

We were called up after about 5 or so minutes and escorted to our table. Amazingly, the hostess even pronounced the last name right on the first attempt which is definitely a rarity! We were seated and introduced to our Cousin Megan who would be taking care of us for the evening.

Cousin Megan was a terrific server and played the part brilliantly. I love the food at 50’s but I think we always end up going back more for the show than anything else. We browsed our menus trying to decide what to eat. One thing we weren’t passing up was an order of onion rings to start. Some of the best rings I’ve had and the dipping sauce is the real kicker. So good.

We all made our decisions and placed our order with Megan. Fried Chicken for me, Pot Roast for Kelly and Deb, Chicken Pot Pie for my mom and mac and cheese for the kids.

The fried chicken continues to be one of my favourite dishes on the property and I was more than happy to finish every bite. Rave reviews from everyone else around the table but we decided to pass on dessert, even at the urging of our long-lost cousin. We squared up, said our goodbyes and headed back into the park.

Our first FP was for Tower of Terror but Kelly and I were the only ones up for riding. The moms ended up taking the girls to watch Voyage of the Little Mermaid instead. Probably a good way for them to ease back into it without losing their dinner at the Hollywood Tower Hotel!

Kelly and I made the walk down sunset towards ToT.

This is Kelly’s favourite ride so we were both pretty excited. Would have been fun with the whole crew but what can you do? We arrived, scanned our bands and made our way quickly through the queue and right into the library.

The ride, as always, was excellent and I get such a kick out of Kelly screaming like a little girl. Makes me laugh every time!

We debated going again as there wasn’t much of a wait but we knew the kids wanted to get on Slinky Dog so we ended up walking back to meet them at the theatre. Their show let out a few minutes after we arrived and off we went, making the stroll back to Toy Story Land and straight to Slink.

Ella scanned her band and the rest of us followed as we entered the PF queue. I loved all the details around the queue. There’s so much to see as you get through the lines. The Imagineers did a great job all the way around on this ride.

We loaded up after a short wait and took off through Andy’s backyard. The moms were well rested from their morning away from the park which gave them plenty of energy to scream throughout the ride.

They do still need to work on getting the on-ride photos figured out!

We got off Slink and had another FP open up, this time for Rockin’ Roller Coaster! Not a chance the girls or the moms were riding that one so we ended up making a quick change to the final Frozen Ever After Show of the evening. We all walked towards the Hyperion theatre to make sure the moms wouldn’t get lost if we let them roam on their own. As they took the girls inside Kelly and I made our way back to sunset. We were ready to rock and roll with Aerosmith!
Did it take a while for your slinky dog photo to show up on mde? We were on it last Saturday and still no picture. Having said that maybe we missed somewhere to scan our magic bands but we didn't see anywhere. Tia.

The resort does look pretty cool and I love the backstory that all the rooms are just pods that were inserted into the frame of the hotel structure while it was being built.
I love watching the videos of how they slid the rooms into place before it opened!

. The Contemporary mosaic is stunning!
So many amazing details in these mosaics! I actually bought a book for my DH "The Art and Flair of Mary Blair." You can find it on Amazon, or in the parks.

Ella made sure to go up to her to say hi and show the girl her Dexcom. It was pretty cute, they had a short conversation about their pumps and said goodbye to each other as the monorail arrived.

THIS. THIS IS AWESOME. WAY TO GO MOM AND DAD for teaching her how to manage her diabetes and not be ashamed of it. I am proud of you guys and her for talking to the other girl. I have worn hearing aids since I was 5. My parents told me the first day, "this is a cool thing," so I have always been proud of them and not one day in 28 years have I ever chosen to not wear them or be ashamed or embarassed about them. IT helps that since I was a kid, I could order my hearing aid molds in bright, beautiful mixed colors (pink, purple and yellow was my favorite) and I would regularly run up to strange children I noticed with hearing aids and point mine out.

I still do it at WDW and other places when I see a kid with them. I want them to be proud of their badge of honor and understand it's a tool to HELP us and not to shame/be embarassed about.

Hmm I’m not too sure to be honest. It didn’t take long from what I recall. Pretty sure it was the next day they would pop up on the app.

Hopefully yours come through soon!

Did you have to scan your magic band? Tia. We might have forgotten to do that 😕
There isn’t a place to scan your MagicBand for the on-ride photo.

Our Slinky Dog Dash pic never appeared so I contacted https://mydisneyphotopass.disney.go.com. You’ll need to describe the date and time you rode SDD and what you were wearing. My request took several days but the picture eventually appeared in my MDE account.

This is great! Good for you and your parents for always having such a positive outlook. We've always tried to paint the same picture with Ella and she has never once felt embarrassed about having to wear her pump. She's just been so inspiring since day one and she continues to be proud of who she is, even if there are the odd eyeballs staring at her now and then when they see her pump or CGM.
