Ok,Excuse the John McEnroe rant headliner..But I've just read today's Eatingwdw.com and the review of Flying Fish Cafe..The two dudes went for meat dishes. Angus char crusted fillet and a Pork entree..Now don't get me wrong,I love my meat,be it steak or chicken or pork, but when I dine at a restaurant that excels in Fish dishes, then I'll have something fishy.Likewise if I'am going to Shula's,then there's no way I'am having a salad,it's gotta be a steak..I once took out my in laws to a well renowned restaurant that boasted the best fish in the land..It's clientele had famous golfers to pop stars dining there. So what did my father in law have.? Chicken Maryland.o_O And my mother in law..Sunday roast beef with Yorkshire pudding..My DW had a medely of seafood ( salmon,Dover sole, sea trout, bream.) and I had Partan Pie ( crab meat & lobster in a seafood crust covering ) Don't get me wrong, they both love seafood and that's why we booked it,so I was baffled why they didn't choose from the seafood menu..Now to my question.Would you ever go to Fultons and not have seafood, likewise go to your favourite Disney steakhouse and order something that's not a steak.? Are my in laws mad.? Or is it just my way of thinking.?

WEll Hatter here is the thing...IF you are reviewing a restaurant and it specializes in seaford then YES you must eat from the sea..or at least one of the pair should...HOWEVER...I dont eat any seafood so there is value in knowing that a seafood restaurant makes a good landlubber meal..as most my family loves the fishy stuff.

See, this is why I always have to check menus before ever go to any restaurant. My son won't eat seafood at all (but could live on fish sticks when he was little) Maybe it's the *wanna be Chef* in me, but I have to make sure anyone sitting down with me for a meal, walks away from the table satisfied, even if I'm not cooking the food :)

I agree, if you are writing a review of a place, you should be trying out whatever the restaurant is known for. I try to do this whenever we visit The World or restaurants around my home town. However, my wife is a much pickier eater. She really does not eat much red meat and tends to prefer seafood. When we ate at Le Cellier on our last trip, this turned out to be a fortunate thing. She ordered the scallops as her entree (I had a steak) and it turned out that they were the best scallops that either of us had ever eaten....anywhere.

I can say I'm guilty of this as of the last several years. I will usually scope out the menu ahead of time and try to find a decent seafood dish no matter where we go. I've cut out almost all red meat, most pork and try to stick with seafood and chicken if there are no stellar vegetable dishes. I'm hoping to avoid all the medications my parents are currently taking for high blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides.

Well, this probably holds true for most restaurants but when people dine at a restaurant, they can order whatever they want. I mean, granted, in theory, you're supposed to eat the proper food if the place is named in a specific way because by putting the name on the front, it conveys that the food stated in the restaurant is their speciality or best dish, I guess. (i.e. steak in a steakhouse, pizza in a pizzeria, sandwiches in a deli, etc.) But the truth of the matter is, people can order and eat whatever they want at a restaurant and customers who choose one dish over another have a reason behind it, I would assume. Maybe they've already tried the steaks in a steakhouse. Maybe they want something different. Maybe they have special dietary needs. I would think that menus have certain dishes or entrees for a reason and maybe why they include a variety of dishes instead one specific food is to give something for everyone. That's just my thoughts.

You are asking if other people are mad  what has the world come to ???
Personally i find reviews of non seafood items interesting because neither myself nor my DW eat fishystuff so a lot of the time we would see a place called Frying Fish and not even bother when we could be missing out on something spectacular that isn't fish.So no i don't think the reviewers are crazy as you can probably get 101 reviews of the signature dishes from specialised resteraunts but very little in the way of the rest of the menu.
