I know that Purdue has chicken "factories" all over Maryland eastern Shore. Fried chicken is a MD specialty, but I forget which restaurant chain it is.
Of course, MD blue crabs all you can eat are a must during the summer months! My hubby doesn't like to pick them, so he goes for Crab Legs! Used to love Pope's Creek back in the day!
Not any chain that I've heard of! Of course I'm from B-more, but my family is descended from the original MD settlers, and while we've passed down other recipes, fried chicken is not one of them. Actually, the recipe is probably an old slave one since they invented it because it was easy to take out onto the fields with them. But I've never heard of this MD chicken thing you all speak of...I eat Popeye's or KFC usually, which are from Kentucky, of course.
The not picking thing is actually pretty common. Though I won't eat the claws (legs barely have meat in them) because I like the flavor from the body better.
And...I'm in Hawaii now and really just want some blue crabs...
