It's important to note that many have special dietary needs. Some may be vegetarians and would not eat steak while fish is a fairly common allergy. I'm actually writing a letter to Disney about one of their restaurants in DL featuring too many things with nuts and not enough alternatives. Alternatives are important for this very reason as well as that some, like me, think fish are friends, not food. It's important to consider alternatives.

However, as food critics visiting a seafood restaurant, for the sake of their readers, they should have reviewed the seafood.

Since when do we specialize in chicken in MD??? I have lived in MD my whole life and have never heard of this until I looked it up just now. Now if that restaurant had MD crabs it would be a different story...

We've been to quite a few restaurants around the country that serve "Maryland Eastern Shore" style fried chicken. Lighter breading than KFC and a healthy dose of pepper. Don't think I've ever actually had it on the Eastern Shore, though...

Maybe they were trying to get the point across that they have other things, one would assume that the fish would be pretty good there, so why review it, when you can possibly attract new guests by featuring the other great items they have. I for one am not a huge fish fan, so typically don't look to eat at Flying Fish, but now I may go and try something different.

I think Sarah over at Eating WDW might object to she and Matt being referred to as "the two dudes", lol.

Aside from shellfish, neither one of them eat a lot of seafood. Still, considering that NY Strip is one of the Flying Fish Café's "signature" dishes, I think their visit and Sarah's review were still on point for her blog.

 Maryland is known for their crabs. It's down there in the South where fried chicken is known. I've never had fried chicken at a restaurant known for MD dishes. It's all crabs and other seafood.

Ok,Excuse the John McEnroe rant headliner..But I've just read today's Eatingwdw.com and the review of Flying Fish Cafe..The two dudes went for meat dishes. Angus char crusted fillet and a Pork entree..Now don't get me wrong,I love my meat,be it steak or chicken or pork, but when I dine at a restaurant that excels in Fish dishes, then I'll have something fishy.Likewise if I'am going to Shula's,then there's no way I'am having a salad,it's gotta be a steak..I once took out my in laws to a well renowned restaurant that boasted the best fish in the land..It's clientele had famous golfers to pop stars dining there. So what did my father in law have.? Chicken Maryland.o_O And my mother in law..Sunday roast beef with Yorkshire pudding..My DW had a medely of seafood ( salmon,Dover sole, sea trout, bream.) and I had Partan Pie ( crab meat & lobster in a seafood crust covering ) Don't get me wrong, they both love seafood and that's why we booked it,so I was baffled why they didn't choose from the seafood menu..Now to my question.Would you ever go to Fultons and not have seafood, likewise go to your favourite Disney steakhouse and order something that's not a steak.? Are my in laws mad.? Or is it just my way of thinking.?

Yes I would go to Fultons and not have seafood because I do not want to end up in the ER on my vacation. The whole numb lips and slight swelling at my throat are a really bad way to end a meal. I have a shell fish allergy. So knowing that they have something for me to eat other then seafood is good, that means my Dear Hubby and Daughter who both love and adore seafood can go get what they want and I can still eat.

Yet on the flip side we probably wont ever eat at Fultons because of my allergy. And that makes me sad because my Dear Husband and Daughter will be missing out on a wonderful restaurant.

Same for the Steakhouse, while I love steak there are times when I just don't want it at that time.

I do this all the time with steakhouses. I'll take family there because they enjoy red meat but I stick with a salad or any meatless meal I can find, I rather take them to Brazilian churrascarias because they always have amazing salad buffets and yummy side dishes. I don't eat seafood at steakhouses though, I feel they won't take the proper care the meat deserves.

Of course, the crabs (and Rockfish, which in my opinion is better than crabs) are what MD is most famous for, but believe it or not, Maryland-style Chicken is a pretty well known dish. If we are going to believe Wikipedia, Maryland Chicken is quite a different dish around the world! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_Maryland

But, as I said before, I've never actually had 'Maryland Style' chicken in Maryland - only in other states in the south (and I think once in New Jersey).

I personally do this all the time, especially when vacationing near the beach. People love to eat fresh seafood and to be honest just a whiff of it makes me want to throw up. Just never have enjoyed it. So, I tend to just order what I like. For years, that usually ended up being chicken fingers and fries. Thankfully, my tastes have expanded. :)

WEll Hatter here is the thing...IF you are reviewing a restaurant and it specializes in seaford then YES you must eat from the sea..or at least one of the pair should...HOWEVER...I dont eat any seafood so there is value in knowing that a seafood restaurant makes a good landlubber meal..as most my family loves the fishy stuff.

I definitely agree that for a review, someone should be eating the seafood. But I am also one of the seafood haters. I have tried at various times over the years to eat seafood items, and cannot stand the taste. So I would be ordering a steak or some such!

I know that Purdue has chicken "factories" all over Maryland eastern Shore. Fried chicken is a MD specialty, but I forget which restaurant chain it is.
Of course, MD blue crabs all you can eat are a must during the summer months!:D My hubby doesn't like to pick them, so he goes for Crab Legs! Used to love Pope's Creek back in the day!;)

I've seen "Maryland Chicken" on menus here in NY. Maybe it just exists outside of MD.

I love fish and would happily eat it every day of the week. My hubby loves red meat, and would happily eat that every day of the week (his doctor and his cholesterol levels tell him otherwise, though!). I've enjoyed some of the best seafood/pasta dishes in my entire life at two WDW steakhouses, Le Cellier and the (sadly mourned) Concourse Steakhouse. I generally try to get steak at the Yachtsman, although if something un-beefy on their menu strikes my fancy, I don't hesitate to order it. We've gone to Coral Reef and he's ordered steak. When we ate at Flying Fish, I ordered their specialty, the potato-wrapped snapper, and found it just meh; I couldnt' tell you what he ordered, I don't remember, but if we go there again I am definitely sitting in those seats that overlook the cooking.

Moral of the story: a really good restaurant knows how to cook anything well. ;)
