Wow thats being done really quickly, it would probably take our UK builders about 4 years to even start the work let alone finish it :brick:
Well I'm not sure how long builders are over there. But the house that they are building up the street from my house has been under construction for a year and a half and they are still framing it. And they have a crew of 8-15 guys there daily, so I don't have a clue what is taking so long??? But the house is going to be a freaking mansion.

Thanks for the update! You're right people, it does look weird right now. So I'm guessing whenever we get pictures from today the rest of the arm will be gone.

OK, someone has to pick up the slack today for wand updates. My A/C unit got hit last night so I had to stay home from work and get it fixed.

Sooo... who's taking pictures today?? :)

I still think there's something Freudian about all the hatred of the wand out there. Wand-envy, or something like that.
No, the same kind of hatred that there would be if someone put "party hats" on Mt. Rushmore in 1976, then forgot to take them down for 8 years:ROFLOL: .

Enough is enough!

Hopefully last night the last piece of the hand was removed. That leaves the wand section to be removed on Thursday night before they have Fri & Sat off. Next Sun, Mon & Tues should be enough to remove the remaining tower as it's a more standard structure it should be easy to remove. Then by the end of next week they will hopefully start removing the stars on SSE as a daytime crew work on the landscaping. I can not see the same crew working with the crane having anything to do with the landscaping.

I don't see them removing the rest of the structure in one night! I wish they would, but I just don't see it happening.

And hopefully those stars are gone soon!

Sorry, but as much as I love Disney, comparing it to something like Mt. Rushmore is just a bit excessive.

The Anti-wand people need to get over it, in my opinion. It's an amusement park, not a national monument.

I hope someone is able to get pictures of the progress today.

If I lived in Central Florida, I would gladly do it, but unfortunately, I live in Indiana.

Oh well.

They are both modern marvels of engineering. Nothing excessive about that.

would you liken the Eiffel Tower to Spaceship Earth? The Pyramids of Giza (admittedly not modern, but still, there has to be a point where something is simply more impressive than anything at WDW).

Honestly, regarding the Eiffel Tower, yes. The Eiffel Tower was built for a World's Fair, and Epcot is somewhat a permanent world's fair. SSE is also the only true geosphere on earth.

I would not compare the pyramids to either of the steel structures. Being made of stone, the pyramids are much more impressive than the mechanized "wonders" of our time.

Would you compare SSE to the Perisphere from the New York World's Fair?

I think two things would have to be different for it to truly be considered a "new wonder of the world."

1) Bigger. If its diameter were doubled....

2) Built by some entity other than a for-profit corporation for a for-profit theme park.

Satisfy these two and I think SE would be known and respected worldwide even moreso than it is today.

Of course, this is the realm of conjecture. Pyramids and Eiffel Tower are roughly triangles. Stonehenge is a circle. Great Wall a long line. Empire State a tall rectangle.

Spaceship Earth is a sphere. Haven't been too many of those built recently...

Plenty of things are more impressive than the man-made stuff at WDW.

The Great Wall of China, the Himalayas, the Grand Canyon, and the catacombs in Rome come to mind.

But none of those are as much fun as WDW. :animwink:

The Eiffel Tower was built as a commercial device to promote a worlds fair, just becasue its been around for over 100 yrs is the reason its regarded as a world landmark, if Epcot is still around in another 75 years then I am sure SSE will have reached the same status and someone will look back and say man some moron put a big stupid wand over it and thankfully someone had the common sense to tear it down. The other part of that is that the Eiffel Tower was only supposed to be a temporary structure.
