Yes disney... You got me

This is the last year for the Osborne lights.

I personally think this is a mistake. Disney does not realize the charm and 'magic' this attraction brings to everyone. Not everything people enjoy can be quantified and measured on some computer that Disney is, in my opinion, relying too much on these days.

Fact of the matter is that most likely their home will be going bye-bye with the proposed Star Wars expansions (at least that is my take on the direction of the park). If SOA gets "camp minnie mickey'd" then there is nowhere really for them to go...except maybe DTD or whatever they are calling it now.

Well.. I compromised. I really wanted to experience that 'disney bubble' again and not go for the 'save the most' path so I wanted to stay on property, use MDE, etc. But nothing was available the week I wanted to go.. but later weeks would have more crowds, etc. But wanting to give Disney another chance.. I went with going Dec 16th, having 2.5 days in the parks, and staying in the little mermaid rooms at Art of Animation.

Off property rooms are creeping up there in costs too.. its no longer like a $100+ night difference for the value/mod range. But man.. 3 day ticket prices are like a punch in the gut...

We'll be there that week, here is a thought did you look at renting DVC points, the pricing is very good if points are avialable

Yup.. no availability during the week of Dec2. I called DVC Dave and they had I think one room at SSR for one night. I didn't follow up with DVC for Dec 16th.. but now that you mention it, I might check again... but I'm still recovering from my sticker shock on 3day ticket costs :) I didn't have enough old tickets left-over to use on this trip.

So I haven't taken the family to the parks in quite some time... And we never go in the fall... But since this is the last season of Osborne lights and I've not seen them in person, I'm actually trying to pull together a quick 2 or 3 day trip in early December. Yup Disney, you've got me staring down 'peak' pricing, paying for airfare for just a few days... And paying crazy ticket prices just to see some lights. Bravo Disney.... Now don't screw it up :)

I hate paying higher prices but you gotta live a little I guess

Let me try to save you some money then... Don't go... At least don't go just for the Osborne lights. We've seen them and honestly they aren't that magical. In fact go rent "Deck the Halls" and look at the final house Danny Devito ends up with... Does it really look magical? Or just over the top... Because honestly Osborne lights are over the top in a bad way. Go take a tour of local Christmas light and I'm pretty sure that you'll find more tasteful decorations in your hometown. This is one thing I'm glad to see Disney close down.

Could say the same thing about alot of things at Disney.. but its mainly just an excuse to push to put over the edge. Something like Storytime with Belle I'll never enjoy for what its intended to be... but I'll enjoy experiencing it as a fan of Disney and theme parks. Same with Osbourne... part of me wants to experience it just as being a Disney fan/hobbyist. And they are a pretty significant piece of the park's history.. and I'd like to experience it first hand.

Plus, I've never been at WDW during Christmas time.. so that's another element to experience. We were at DLR for our anniversary during Christmas time.. so now I get to check out WDW's version :)

So lots of reasons to go... checking in with WDW's latest changes, seeing Christmas time at WDW, seeing a major attraction I've not seen before, a getaway with the wife, and an easy excuse to try Disney again. I've been away from the parks enlarge for awhile because they haven't offered enough to make me want to spend the kind of money they are asking. But the hobbyist side of me is yearning for a visit and taking 2 people vs 5 people sure makes it easier.

yeah I'm still on the fence with this one...
rofl I was too, now Im going on the 13th and 17th..we really enjoyed the Halloween party seeing the parade in person was on the bucket list and we'll go back to see it again. You're getting off cheap my friend I have 6 of us going and using the deluxe dining plan. I forewarned everyone that this trip IS Xmas this year so enjoy it while we're there because you're more likely to see Jack the Pumpkin King at our house DEC 25th vs Sandy Clause

If you're dead set on going at Christmas time to experience it then try to set aside some time to go to the deluxe resorts to see their decorations, Seeing them was probably better than Osborne lights.

They got is too. We had a whole family trip planned for the 1st week of December of 2016 (11 of us) But once they announced the or purse lights were stopping in 2015 my parents bumped up their timeshare to this year. We're excited bc it's our 1st time going as a whole family in quite some time. We didn't get the timeshare he wanted (got his 3rd choice) but he got the week he wanted 11/29-12/6

I'm looking forward to seeing this for the first and last time. Though I'm sure they will be bringing something similar to one of the parks or even the Springs at some point next year. Or after.

Does the family even have anything to do with the lights any more? Does Disney have a "contract" with them? Maybe Disney will continue, but does not want a family name attached to it? Is there even anything at the event that explains what the display is all about? When I first heard of this years back, I assumed it was connected to Ozzy & Sharon....!

I'm done after next week. Non expiring 10 packs of tickets are gone, hotels have gone way up, food has gone way up, FP now limits causal visitors and I'm not paying for a 3 day trip at current prices. I'm tired of the scheming. Always a scheme and that's not the way I run. Other places to spend my money.

I had this (stereotypical..) thought last night as well. At $350 a head for 3 days of tickets that crosses a pain threshold of 'this is expensive' and after that kind of upfront price, I don't want to be nickle'd and dime'd once I'm inside. It's that high cost up front that makes us even more defensive to upcharges. I don't mind spending money at all when I feel I got the return for it. So that's why I've been doing vacations other than WDW, such as DCL, DiscoveryCove, DLR, KSC, etc in recent years. I'm open enough to give Disney another shot with WDW.. but we'll see what the feeling is at the end.

We made that trip for the same reason (we'd heard the Osborne Lights were going to be discontinued) a couple of years ago and am so glad we did. My family members have always enjoyed Christmas lights and so making a special trip to see the Osborne Lights in all their glory was a worthwhile investment of money and time.

I hope you have a great trip. My wife and I often reflect back to that trip with very happy memories and at this point I don't even think about what it cost.
