X-Men: The Last Stand

I saw it today and was disappointed. The Phoenix story in the comic book was much better (X-Men 133 thru 137).

It was cool to kind of see a Sentinel though. That scene looked like it was based on X-Men 141 and 142.

This film will appeal to non X-Men comic fans MUCH MORE than it will to hardcore fans of the series, IMO. I know nothing about the comics or the animated series and I enjoyed the films a lot more than some of my friends which knew the backstories and whatnot.

I don't know what movie trailers played where y'all live, but here, they showed a trailer for "Ghost Rider".
Man, it looks pretty awesome! Can't wait to see it.
"Superman Returns" too!

As far as X3, I thought it was pretty cool.

I wish they would do a movie with a ton of Marvel characters together.

Highlight to read.

Thanx for filling me in!

We're going to see it again tomm...I had an annoying experience the first time around, also my husband wants to see what happens after the end credits.

P.S. The trailer for "Ghost Rider" *was* pretty cool!

that was a nod to "Days of Future Past".

I wouldve liked nothing better than seeing the xmen pull on their spandex costumes in all their glory. but i understand that they have to appeal to everyone and so make it more "realistic".

oh and can anyone tell me if Psylocke had any lines, or even introduced at all??? - i missed that bit :lookaroun

I think I'm gonna get my comic book box out of the attic and read X-Men 119 thru 143. It's been at least 20 years since I've done that. Chris Claremont and John Byrne were dropping hints about plot lines that wouldn't surface for months or years later. In those issues, the X-Men fight Alpha Flight, Arcade, Mutant X (or Proteus), The Hellfire Club, Dark Phoenix, the death of Jean Grey, and ending with the Days of Future Past issues.

now that sounds like a good idea. Claremont is poosibly the best writer xmen has seen. I bought a Marvel pocket book that had the Dark Phoenix Saga (Proteus to the moon fight) and it was a good buy

I think I'm gonna wait for DVD on this one. I wasn't too crazy about the first two, and this seems to carry the trend.

I mean, we're talking about Brett Ratner here--the man who thinks that by just putting Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker into the same film frame, it's comedic genius. The man who has brought us such gems as "after the sunset" and "Money Talks." The man who has sold his soul to the devil. Twice. I just can't support that. ;)

I saw it on Saturday...and, I thought it was incredible. Sure, the character development wasn't that great (but does it need to be when it's the "last" movie in a trilogy?). I thought the story of this one was stronger than the other two...but...the story was executed better in X2.

I did miss Nightcrawler...but, we did get a glimpse of a Sentinel, and I thought Juggernaut was pretty frickin' cool!

And how come nobody mentioned this...WE FINALLY SEE ICEMAN...as "ICEMAN!"

Trivia:

  • Longtime X-Men writer Chris Claremont is shown (guy with a lawnmower) in the Grey's neighborhood at the beginning of the film.
  • The loud voice giving orders in the background giving orders as the soldiers trade in their weapons and equipment for the plastic cure guns is R. Lee Ermey, the drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket.
  • This is the first time where all the original X-men are featured in one film - Prof X, Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Beast, Iceman and Angel.
  • Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance in the beginning of the movie when Jean is being recruited and showing off her powers He's the man holding a hosepipe.
  • Juggernaut says "Don't you know who I am? I'm the Juggernaut, ." That was taken from the Juggernaut fan made episode found on the net. Try searching google for it.
  • For one of the scenes, a 2,500 foot replica of the Golden Gate Bridge was built
  • Halle Berry had initially decided not to reprise her role as Storm for this film, citing lack of character development in the previous two installments and a tense relationship with director Bryan Singer. However, after Singer's departure and suffering a major box-office flop with Catwoman (2004), Berry agreed to return on the condition that her role be expanded. Consequently, in this film Storm serves as leader of the X-Men.
  • The character Callisto has been given an extra power to detect mutants similar to her ally in the comic, Caliban.
  • The Danger Room scene was a mock up of the non-continuity story "Days of Future Past", where mutant-hunting Sentinels tracked mutants in a war-torn world.
  • The bridge scene is based on the scene in "New X-Men" #147 involving the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges rather than the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Instead of high-dollar CGI to create Colossus' transformation, a reflective form-fitting bodysuit was created for and worn by Daniel Cudmore.

And I seemed to be the only one in the theater who noticed, as I was the only one laughing.

I had such high expectations for this one but -eh, I was not impressed. I should have just waited for DVD. Wolverine was much too 'lovey' about teamwork and was waaaay out of character for me. I loved the "I'm Juggernaut, !" line! And Kelsey Grammer as the Beast was excellent. He totally nailed it, in my opinion. "Oh my stars and garters!" I think growing up with reading the X-men comic books and having a hard-core fan as an older brother ruined it for me. Those who have just seen the movies - I think they will like it.

What? This movie is the last one? I thought that they were making one more. I mean, there was that one glimpse of Magneto at the end.

I think there's still one more left. It just didn't feel like an ending to the series, and there was that questionable ending with Magneto. Plus the secret ending at the end of the credits gives away the definate possibility of a sequal.

Yeah, the title "The Last Stand" doesn't have any implications of finality at all...;)

I believe Jackman is interested in created a Wolverine spinoff, which could potentially be cool.
