WSJ: Even Disney Is Worried About The High Cost Of A Disney Vacation (gift link)

I’m trying my best to not be absolutely hyped (I’ll be there on opening day) but it’s important to be realistic and temper expectations.

My expected disappointments: As lazyboy mentions, they’re spending an astronomical amount of money on a number of rides that nearly all have very limited capacity. I think Celestial Park looks like Disney Springs with lipstick, and they’re badly trying to sell us the Bellagio as the centerpiece. I’m pessimistic on how Universal will maintain the park over time, as they’re famously good at doing so. I already think Super Nintendo World is a disappointment and won’t bother with the Mario section on my visit. I think the Chronos is ugly. I think the whole name and “theme” of the park is incredibly lame and I think it’s a lazy way to make an IP park look cohesive when it’s no different from IoA or Hollywood Studios — and in many ways, the lack of transitions or interesting layouts detracts from the park.

But I still can’t wait lol
I agree its EPICs "game to lose" if things go badly in the first days, social media will explode with info.

Actually, in any event, when EPIC opens, social media will explode with information.

Just me personally, no matter how the first days go, after some time passes, we WILL be going to EPIC.

Albeit not fair, there are folks that will judge the entire EPIC project on the first days. We know the Universal haters will.

That's a fair assessment. It does go back to my point I made earlier. Those that aren't that big on Epic, feels like you wanted less Universal feel and more of a Disney lite feel. Many I feel wanted more attractions like the Monsters dark ride and less coasters

Absolutely not an attack.

Being blinded by pixie dust is a condition that can greatly limit ones vacationing habits.
That is the very definition of an attack. You discount what people think and feel with a rude appellation questioning their intellectual competency to be objective because they have the 'deficiency' of being a 'pixie duster.' It's the very definition of 'ad hominem.'

It's your go-to when confronted with valid opinions or facts that you disagree with. You could easily and simply say "I disagree" and explain why, but instead, you hide behind name-calling.

It's pretty disgusting and a signal that discussing things with you is pointless since you start from a bad-faith stance.

What’s the condition of grading Universal on a totally different scale than Disney? Imagine the pearl clutching that would occur if Disney were opening a new park based around a bunch of disparate IPs with a hotel and janky tower as the park icons.

If you feel attacked my penguin friend I apologize. It was not intended as an attack.

I do think being blinded by pixie dust is a real condition that limits folks in their vacation choices.

That's just out of touch on what the average person thinks. Majority of GP are excited for this park and don't think that way. It's this fanbase that thinks this way. It's all due to expectations.

Many wanted Epic to rival Disney but we got an upgraded IOA instead. It's more based on thrills than dark rides.

"Pixie dusted" works so well for Disney only fans, we need to come up with a catchy term for Folks who only like Universal and thinks everything Disney is no good.

Not sure what you would call me, As I like Disney, Universal, Seaworld, Gartorland, even Wild Florida ;)

I will admit, I am more critical of WDW because its "My Park" and I want it to be the best it can be.

Not sure if I am blinded by Pixie Dust but I do try to be more optimistic about Disney and not just think everything is terrible just because it is different (and in some cases lesser) than in the past

But we have (and will continue to do) other vacations as well including other theme parks (Universal, Dollywood, Bush Gardens, Hershey Park, etc) and keep coming back to Disney as it is a place that everyone in the family enjoys and just continues to provide a better experience than those other parks.

If that means I a "blinded by Pixie Dust" then so be it ... Though sometimes I think people have blinders the other way and only see the negatives

I do not see your reasonable opinion as being blinded by pixie dust.

Its great to be optimistic, not just in Disney but in everything in life. Its just healthier.

I am critical of Disney but I also know TWDC and its theme parks (even when I disagree with them) will continue to do well as a business.

Thrills? The park with two, maybe three, thrill rides, one of which is a dark ride, is based on thrills? Even Dark Universe isn’t committed to thrills with its second attraction being a family coaster.

Maybe the way I worded is wrong. My point is Epic Universe is more like IOA with big coasters than it is a Disney level park.

Is it? Feels more like US than IoA to me.

ETA: Just to clarify, it does feel more like a Universal park than a Disney park to me. Just that of the two, I get more of a USF feel.

Because it has that one coaster with a 48” height requirement?
No cause most of the coasters have exposed steel, the flat rides are themed off the shelf rides. Most rides aren't indoors as well.

With the amount of money they spent on the park, it feels like many expected more dark rides like Disney does.
