Really? Then I stand corrected. I didn't see any tables when I was there last, but that was in 2002. It was also crowded, so I may have simply missed them. Were they on the far (i.e. right) side of the location?

When my family ate at the Teppanyaki grill we had Tomo as our chef. He was easily the most entertaining chef I've experienced at any Japanese hibachi style restaurant. Very enthusiastic and funny! :)

My travel guide says that Tempura Kiku does not take any priority seating. If it does...then I'm callin' now! Cuz tempura is delicious!!! :slurp:

I think the guide is correct. If my memory serves me correctly (which is often doubtful), they stopped taking them there about 2 years ago. Regardless, the wait is usually not too bad, and standing on the balcony of Mitsukoshi is a great place to crowd watch (used to watch Tapestry from here as well)

I'd whole heartedly recommend Mitsukoshi Tenppanyaki or the Yakitori House. However, during my visit May 2 - 6, I finally had a bad Disney Dining experience at the Tempura Kiku. I have always gotten great service at all the Japan pavillion dining options and all 3 are favorites of mine and I usually dine at 2 of the 3 every trip. This time however, I actually notified guest relations about the bad service I received (a first for me to ever have to report "bad show" at Disney in nearly 20 trips to both FL and CA over the last 28 yrs). There were 2 women working the room in addition to the lady seating people. There were 5 tables occupied, of which 3 were finished with their meal and either already paying their bills or just receiving them. All but one of the other tables hadn't been cleared, but I never saw anyone leaving while I was outside the entrance, so obviously they had been in that state for a while. I was seated at 4:50pm and not once did either of the 2 servers ever even acknowledge I was there, much less take my order. I attempted to get their attention after sitting there for 10 minutes as they walked by my table many times but never stopped to see what I wanted. Finally at 5:10pm I got up and left. I figure 20 min is enough to wait for someone to at the very least say "we'll be right with you." As I was leaving the older women seating people was walking in with another couple and looked confused and asked me if I had changed my mind, then I told her what happened. She replied "oh, I'm sorry" and proceeded to escort a couple to a table without any further effort or communication. I guess the odds finally caught up with me and I had a bad Disney experience - - not relating to "magical express"...

The only thing you need to be aware of is that if you are allergic to shell fish, it is not a place for you, since they cook all the items ordered on one large grill surface and there is cross-contamination.

Actually, they're AMAZINGLY accomodating about this. Mr. Lawyergirl is DEATHLY allergic to seafood, and when we notified them of this at the desk when we checked in, they told the chef, and she made sure to cook his meal first to avoid contamination. He absolutely adored his meal!!!

Just curious - where are the tables at Tempura Kiku? I've only seen the individual horseshoe seating. There is the bar next door where they might put you if it's full. Perhaps this is where you were.

You're right. He's talking about the Tempura Kiku. Sorry. However, he referred to tables and there are no tables at Tempura Kiku, only the bar-style seating.

It's confusing because there are four places to eat in Japan and I'm not sure which one people are posting about!

I Am not sure that you are talking about the same place. The Teppanyaki is filled up with 10 people at a time ( or thereabouts) I am not sure if the Tempura side has to as I dont believe the food is cooked in front of you. I believe tempura is deep fried stuff yes? Belle

What place exactly are you talking about? There are no tables at Tempura Kiku, are there? There's just the bar-style seating around the horseshoe.

The Matsunoma Lounge, which overlooks the lagoon is used as additional seating when the actual space Tempura Kiku uses is full. We were seated there for lunch in December. It's a beautiful little room and the views are great.

How was the service? Perhaps if they don't have servers assigned to that room specifically, that could account for the poster's poor service.

As previous posters have said, Teppanyaki is like any other Japanese grill restaurant you can find in a major city, except much much larger.

The food is great and the cooks are especially funny. Don't forget to get a picture with yours before he runs offstage...

If you haven't been to a this type of restaurant, where the cook prepares your meal right in front of you, you're in for a real treat...

My wife and I went in in the evening one day in late August, having made PS early that morning. We got there at 5, half an hour before our PS time, and pretty much walked right in without waiting. (We had the hostess scratch our names off the PS list after the fact.)

tomm4004....the service was fine. We waited a few minutes for a server, but nothing out of the ordinary. The food was delivered quickly and our hostess was very polite.

Teppanyaki is one of the best places for a table service meal in Epcot, indeed in all of WDW. Generally the food is great, the chefs are amazing, and the atmosphere is wonderful.
Just don't touch the metal surface of the table.
Woot.

While it's good, it's nothing spectacular either. If you been to a Japanese steakhouse like Kobe or Bennihanna(sp) then you know the drill.

I don't like the fact they don't serve fried rice. That's usually one of the best parts of the meal for me.

:D

Hey there Kevin, The fried rice is really cool!!! Unfrtunately I spoke to a manager at Teppanyaki and he said that because China has fried rice, he isnt allowed to make it as they work in pavilions!!! I thought it was kinda funny. The last time I went to Nine Dragons for dinner I had a veggie fried rice that was outstanding. This last trip I went again and the fried rice was terrible!!!! so the bottom line is that there is not agood fried rice anywhere in World Showcase now!!! Belle
