Would YOU sign up for a 7-hour Star Wars tour of Hollywood Studios?

And George Lucas and Kenner and McDonald's and Lego and everyone else that made toys before Disney wasn't out for money?

They can take my money at the box office because I have invested time in the previous movies. I will not buy any of their memorabilia.

It should be interesting to see the state of the SW franchise 10-15 years from now once Disney beats it to death.

I have to point out something here- To do JTA signups you have to arrive to the park before, or right at open. We arrived at 8:55,ran straight to sign ups, and the line was cut off 2 people behind us. We waited for well over an hour, and I didn't have coffee. Also, all of the early spots for the show were already taken and we had to do a late afternoon. Avoiding that entire scenario alone is worth the cost of the new tour!lol
"skipping a couple of lines" is actually quite a few hours of your day that are now freed up.
Perhaps you were there at a busier time of year. We waited less than 30 min to sign up for JTA in early Nov, and waited less than 15 min each for the M&Gs. Saw everything else on the tour list ( except the dessert party) AND still had time to ride all the other rides and see a couple of other shows. AND take an afternoon break at the resort. For us it would have been a complete waste of money. And since no one in our family has a sweet tooth, the dessert party would have been a waste, too. It's a decision every group has to make for themselves, based on their their own preferences for a DHS day.

If it were just me and one of my kids, I'd be tempted to do the tour. The price is a bit high for what you get, IMHO, but I could see doing it once. But doing it with my family of 6? Not a chance.

It has. It was a way of trying to say I'm quite a die hard fan of the originals.

I had my Star Wars bed covers and wallpaper in 1978. And my landspeeder with springy wheels in 1979 (along with the impossible to obtain original Han Solo figure with his leather pants and waistcoat costume. Wish I'd never thrown it away)

All of my SW toys, including my Star Wars Radio Controlled Jawa Sandcrawler (with the box, but definitely not MIB!), are in the loft over my parents' garage. :) Unfortunately, I don't believe I have any of the rare characters, and certainly don't have any still in their original packaging. :(

The original packaging..... don't. It pains me to think that I once had the original figures (most of the SW and ESB figures that were available) AND the packaging in my hands once up a time.

Not that I could understand why my Luke had a yellow lightsaber...

I'm definitely not saying that everyone should do these things. I just worry that people may use this site to plan, as I do as well.. and read comments that make it sound like all of the SW stuff is an easy thing to accomplish in one day..if you want to do other things as well.

It's great that you were able to do all of that! Especially that you only waited 30 minutes for JTA!! What time did you arrive at the park?
Last year we got there at 9:15am bc breakfast ran late. The line was already closed, and I had an extremely disappointed child standing next to me. It was heart breaking and I felt horrible about it. This year we ordered room service for breakfast and took a taxi to the park so I could guarantee we made the line before cutoff.

According to Touring Plans our day this year was only a 3 or 4 crowd level. Can't remember which. We didn't get to explore Launch Bay, we only did one character meet outside of Launch Bay (Olaf bc the line was short) and we weren't able to do any shows. Couldn't even get a FP for Frozen Sing a Long. The FP lines for Toy Story- which we were only able to do bc of the FP we received at JTA sign ups.. and Rockin' Rollecoaster were 20 minutes each. Kylo Ren was 30 minute wait, Chewy was 40.
Oh, we did see Santa as well...but for that one we received a pager and able to go about our day. Having a 2:10pm JTA show and 5:45pm dessert party check in (we checked in just after 6) made it really tough to fit a lot in the day. We didn't do half of what we did last year, we also did a H&V F! Dining package on that trip, the meal did take up a good chunk of time, but we were still able to get a lot done.

This site does a sterling job with its news sections and trip planning forums.

However elsewhere in the forums people tend to speak their minds more. Especislly when the OP of this thread asked a specific question.

And let's face it there's a lot of people here who have some of the most of the (real) worlds experience of all things WDW.

If someone searches for this tour then they will read this thread. I used the search option a lot in planning. Again, it's great that someone was able to accomplish all of HS with little wait times.. but the reality is it isn't the norm. Not from what I've read or from my own or friend's and family's experiences. Most people I know arrive at HS at 8am to be ready for the JTA line..so either way you are waiting, one way is outside of the park, the other one inside.
You may not be paying with cash, but you're paying with your time. The tour gives you the option to skip that, have more efficient use of time, and probably have a SW junkie guide. It's not for everyone, of course..but when listing all of the things that someone can do on their own I think it's important to keep perspective of what a typical day is like. Especially regarding JTA.
Like I said, we missed it last year, arriving 15 minutes after park opening. I would hate to see any family have to deal with that...regardless of if they do this 7 hour tour or not.

Which isn't a bad thing since it offers people's experiences and opinions. Unless you consider it biased?
I don't think it's biased...I think it's important to share experiences, which is why I pointed out that the list of "things you can do on your own" aren't always possible to do in one day.

I would be more inclined to if I knew what that 7 hours was comprised of. In DHS current state, I can not fathom how they fill that 7 hours.
My thoughts exactly. As much as I love Star Wars, I'd be rather skeptical of what they can fill those 7 hours with. It'd be one thing to participate in, say, a behind-the-scenes tour of how they film(ed) scenes (using puppets, seeing real-life props, etc.); a 7 hour tour at Disney World could mean a lot of different things, maybe some parts even as filler? If that makes any sense
Not trying to bash this new experience, in fact I hope it offers a ton for fans like myself & gives guests a fantastic time they'll cherish :joyfull: !

For what it is described as currently, no, I can't justify it when I have done everything but the dessert party previously. Now when SWL opens, if they offer something like this, you bet I'll do it. and if I hadn't done any of it before, I would be tempted. A part of me wants to do it on the next trip anyway, but I'd rather save my money for some extra souvenirs or something.

I'm wondering if the seven hour time given is the actual amount of time you're on the tour (as in you get all of this and you will be doing something for seven whole hours - because we know that can't be true) OR if it's just a ball park saying "meet your tour guide at this time and then we will do everything listed that you paid for, afterwards you now you have free time, but meet back at a certain time to check in for the dessert party and fireworks"?

Curious for anyone who will be doing the tour to give any answers!

Every time I could come up with $3, I'd go buy a new action figure.

Had to get the landspeeder and the tauntaun used from friends.

"Big" items like the X-Wing fighter were strictly Christmas gifts. Never could swing the Millennium Falcon.

Sold 2 Darth Vader cases full of figures on Ebay in 2000 or so. Had to pay the rent.

Cautiously hoping for brilliance with SWL.
