Would YOU sign up for a 7-hour Star Wars tour of Hollywood Studios?

Hasn't the desert party and night time show been getting a ton of positive reviews?.
No exactly. Desert party was mixed, night time show same. Sight lines and capacity are huge problems.

I will say though that it's a thematic disaster seeing Stormtroopers walking past Voyage of the Little Mermaid. And I won't use the Walt and the cowboy quote.

Well let's see what you get for $122 PER PERSON
  • Seeing stars during a screening of the movie, Star Wars: Path of the Jedi free with regular admission
  • Kylo Ren-dered speechless while witnessing 2 live stage shows—Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Awayand March of the First Order—from a reserved viewing area free with regular admission (but you get a reserved standing area)
  • Enrolling younglings ages 4 through 12 in Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple free with regular admission
  • Launching into hyperspace aboard a Starspeeder 1000 on Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. Free with regular admission and can be FPed
  • Sinking your jawas into a Star Wars-inspired dinner at Backlot Express A CS meal that costs at most $20 ( kids $8)
  • Joining forces with new friends at a Chewbacca and Kylo Ren Character Greeting free with regular admission
  • Orbiting around saga-centric exhibits featuring replica props, models, concept art and artifacts at Star Wars Launch Bay free with regular admission
  • Chewy-ing on inter-stellar sweets at Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party cost with regular admission $69/$39 kids
  • Experiencing a reserved viewing of the obi-wan and only Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular nighttime fireworks event included with the dessert party
  • Restoring freedom to your galaxy and taking a personalized souvenir of your tour home with you to commemorate your adventures
So you could do this on your own and pay $80/$47 kids and stand in lines for JTA signup and the M&Gs.

Or you could pay $33 more to possibly skip a couple of lines AND get a souvenir of questionable value.

Or you could pay nothing, eat elsewhere for dinner, grab a snack from a kiosk, and watch the Starwarsland Spectacular with the rest of the great unwashed. Hmm. Decisions, decisions.

Or you can stand twelve foot in front of the desert party area with a pack of M&Ms and save another $77 ($3 for the candy) - or really push the boat out and buy a cupcake.

OP- you should have also said.. "do you do any upcharges events, and are you a SW fan" in your original post. ;)

I would think that given my username and profile photo, combined with the fact that "Rogue One" is on the threshold of grossing $1B worldwide (Box Office Mojo has it at over $800M, and it opens in China next Thursday), the question on whether anyone is a Star Wars fan is rather unnecessary.

It wasn't about you being a Star Wars fan. Just saying that people may respond who could care less about SW and/or hate the idea of any upcharges. Of course those people wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do the new Tiana package bc I don't care about princesses. I would do an upcharge event if it was something that interest me- such as Star Wars.

My time is more valuable than a few $ while on vacation. Experiencing a fun dessert party and not staking out a "good spot" for a show is extremely valuable, to me. For others they may not care.
Just bc something is "Free" with admission to the park doesn't mean it's easy, or even possible. That's where the value decision comes into play.

What are you leaning towards? Yay or Nay?

I've yet to read a review and hoping someone will post one soon. I'm curious to see what the actual itinerary is.

Pretty sure they need the right "Requirements" to be the tour guide for this so-called tour...

I wouldn't buy a SW cup, tee-shirt, stuffed animal, or keychain from Disney. I enjoy the movies and eagerly anticipate future films. But Disney has turned a classic film series into a money grab.
And George Lucas and Kenner and McDonald's and Lego and everyone else that made toys before Disney wasn't out for money?

As a Star Wars fan and a regular park-hopper user, I say nay to this.
Right now DHS is in a slump, and I honestly think that's why they made this thing seven hours long....to keep people in the park longer than usual. Unfortunately, it offers far too little in that seven hours for me to justify the cost.
If it were a 2-to-3 hour deal, I'd probably feel differently.

Yeah, I think it's going to benefit the people who really want to "do it all" at the park...or who hate waiting in lines.lol

Hopefully someone posts their experience soon. I'm definitely hoping that it sticks around for my next trip.

Yes and have it scheduled in February. We had the extra money, are not generally interested in anything at Hollywood studios other than Star Wars and RNR. We would have paid for the fireworks dessert thing anyways. So for us we figured why not, it'll be different. I wasn't looking for a dollar for dollar value, just something entertaining and new for us to do.

I have to point out something here- To do JTA signups you have to arrive to the park before, or right at open. We arrived at 8:55,ran straight to sign ups, and the line was cut off 2 people behind us. We waited for well over an hour, and I didn't have coffee. Also, all of the early spots for the show were already taken and we had to do a late afternoon. Avoiding that entire scenario alone is worth the cost of the new tour!lol
"skipping a couple of lines" is actually quite a few hours of your day that are now freed up.

Thanks! I'm hoping it's chilly that day so I can wear my comfy Vader sweater:inlove: I think it'll be fun!

And I grew up with the original film (now what the youngsters refer to as episode 4 I believe)
It's been Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope since 1981.

But no, this tour sounds dumb.

I will say though that it's a thematic disaster seeing Stormtroopers walking past Voyage of the Little Mermaid. And I won't use the Walt and the cowboy quote.
Isn't that the advantage of what is still (nominally) a Studio park? The Little Mermaid is a film. Star Wars is a film. On stage at DHS, both of those IPs exist in their meta-state. It's not like being near Voyage of the Little Mermaid is supposed to mean you're ACTUALLY underwater like you're ACTUALLY in the Old West in Frontierland.

It has. It was a way of trying to say I'm quite a die hard fan of the originals.

I had my Star Wars bed covers and wallpaper in 1978. And my landspeeder with springy wheels in 1979 (along with the impossible to obtain original Han Solo figure with his leather pants and waistcoat costume. Wish I'd never thrown it away)
