Would you recommend the Polynesian?

We are planning a trip to the "World" this fall and after our last trip to Florida (2007) when we stayed on property for the first time (WL and CSR) we are planning to share our at least 6 days again on two hotels for money saving reasons. 3 days at a value or moderate and 3 days in a deluxe. Although we just ADORE the WL we want to experience something new. I already dreamed of staying at the Poly as a kid and I love Polynesian theming anyway. So the Polynesian is our favorite as the Deluxe hotel. But I read some bad critics about the Polynesian a few years ago and would like to hear some more up-to-date opinions and recommendations about the Polynesian.
By the way I would also appreciate informations and opinions which moderate or value resort is preferable as we like the CSR but again we want some change.

While I have never stayed there I have eaten there on many an occasion. Its a nice resort, I don't know much about the rooms but it is a great atmosphere and the main pool is nice but busy.

I think that it is a great resort, and it is one of my favorites (I have a hard time making a definitive choice between Polynesian and Beach Club). The resort is beautiful, and recently went through a major refurb of the rooms. The transportation is good, and the pool area very nice (lacks a hot tub though). I think the biggest disadvantages to staying there are the seperate buildings and the crowd level at night. Since the buildings are all disconnected you do have to walk outside to get anywhere which can be annoying in the rain. However, this does add to the feel of the resort. Crowds are also an issue during the dinner time hours. The luau and Ohana bring people from all over property to the resort, so the Great Ceremonial House can be very crowded at night.

Heading for the great escape.
Yes I would. It is aesthetically pleasing, has a relaxed atmosphere, not over run with out of control ankle biters and has two decent table service eateries.

Rooms are decent size, nicely presented, though some are looking a little tired. The location is top ho, and its simply spondiferous to be able to hop on the monorails and get to the AK or Epcot, especially if you plan on visiting the World Showcase hostelries.

My dear wife however prefers Wilderness Lodge, but being a woman her opinion like her sense of direction isnt worth much.

We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge and Polynesian.
IHMO I would rate the restaurants and pools even.
The Wilderness Lodge is a nice, out of the way, deluxe resort. You have to make an effort to get there as it’s not on the monorail, so you don’t get as much traffic through the resort. The downside is of course, you must use a bus/boat to get where you want to go.
The Polynesian has bigger rooms, but as mentioned showing their age a bit, and location, location, location. Being on the Monorail is great for access to the MK, other resorts and Epcot.
I was recently quoted vacation package prices for the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian, the total difference between the two resorts for a 7 day trip was $350.00 USD. My next trip I’m going to the Grand Floridian as I like being on the Monorail

Personally Poly is my favoriate. Best coffee on property. The rooms are big (even if they aren't the prettiest) and honestly you can't beat the transpertation to the MK/Epcot. If you can, I would get a castle veiw because its really awesome to be able to sit on your balconey and watch the fireworks.

As far as mods go, I the only one we have stayed at was the POFQ and we loved it, but I can't really compare it to anyothers.

I have a dear friend who only stays at the Poly when visiting WDW. I have never stayed there, but I value her opinion as someone who does not settle for inferior accommodations when traveling. She likes the place.

Thanks a lot to all of you again. Your recommendations have finally convinced us, that the Polynesian will be our deluxe resort and that we will stay for FOUR days if we can. Now we will have to decide in which value resort we will stay to save the money we need for the Polynesian. :)

I do like the restaurants there. The theming is pretty awesome and the pools are nice but too small for the size of the hotel, I think it needs a third pool to alleviate some of the crowding. The rooms were more than spacious although I didnt feel they didnt have great lighting, even in the bathrooms. The bathrooms are also self contained(vanity, commode, and bathtub all in one room) so it might be difficult for more than one person to get ready at a time, whereas some other resorts have the vanity outside to make this easier. I was in Rapa Nui recently and that is RIGHT next to the TTA. It was actually a longer walk to the main building than to the TTA. Proximity to MK is just great. As we were back and forth on and off property, it felt a bit out of the way if you are driving to different places though. If MK Is your focus, I'd say go for it. If EPCOT and HS are more your thing, I would say go for the Yacht or Beach Club, which is a bit more central to everything. Marie

Poly is a great choice. Everything is tropical, food, smells, theming. You will not be dissappointed. As far as value, POP is the way to go. I would recommend a king size bed since it is just two of, but if not, still a good size room with two queens. If you dont like noise, ask for one away from the pool on the opposite side of the building. Have a great time, that time of year is perfect down there.

The Polynesian has bigger rooms, but as mentioned showing their age a bit, and location, location, location.

the poly has had all of their rooms completely gutted and refurbished. They completed them only a couple of years ago. We stayed there last year and loved it. The monorail is a huge time saver for going to MK & Epcot.

The poly is more Hawaii than many places in Hawaii. A true jewel.
