Would you give up your current job to move near disney but make less as a career CM?

Think about it.. maybe having less money would be worth it to be working inside disney world and feeling the magic everyday.. and getting satisfaction from helping guests feel it too.

If someone came to you and said you could give up all your current career and live life working in disneyworld helping people be happy everyday.. but make a lot less money, what would you do? Hmm. But then, would being at the park all the time ruin the magic for yourself? Interesting. :veryconfu

If I was going to work at Disney, I wouldn't want a role inside one of the parks... I would love to work at one of the spas in the resorts on property. And the sad thing is, if I did work there, I'd probably be making more than I am now...

No, thank you. I´d be depressed at some point. Better be safe making decent money and being able to save for the future, than working a lot in the service industry and not even making tips... (in some positions) ;)

The problem is that the greater Orlando, FL area is not a very nice place to live.

Most areas are quite nice...like all cities, there are not so nice areas.
I'd say the worst part of living so close to WDW, besides the traffic, is that since the area caters so heavily to tourists, if you need to do any "real world" type things ie: get an oil change or maintenance to your car...it's quite a drive. And everything is soooooo spread out...

The cost of living in Orlando keeps rising while the CM wages do not...so it's tough.

I definitely would and i'm trying to. I want to do the WDWCP first. Then after i've moved out there for that and I graduate from the CP i'm gonna get an apartment and stay working as a CM. Probably will get another projectionist job on the side for the money. But I definitely think the satisfaction of providing guests with a magical experience will make up for the loss in pay plus the getting into Disney World for free :)

I think the magic would vanish when the real world catches up on the fact you can't live on under $7 an hour and you get to see the unpleasant side of the corporate giant.

I would move to Orlando (and plan to some day) and live in the suburbs (which are quite nice) but I would not work as a CM. I love my current job too much.

It is? You could have fooled me. I live in Orlando, but don't work as a CM, so I didn't really have to give up anything (aside from moving from Celebration to Orlando and now a longer drive to the parks).

I assume Orlando wouldn't be the hottest real estate market in the country if it was such a dump

:p :p :p

I'd love to quit the UK for Florida, but I have no real qualifications, and i'm currently stuck in middle management in the UK's biggest supermarket chain (Tesco) which Is pretty much the UK's equivilent of Wal*Mart. I'm earngin a healthy £7.01 ($12.81) an hour. I'd probably find it hard to earn that much in Orlando and survive. Sucks really because i'd LOVE to live in Kissimee, I know its touristy, but I love it.

i'd like to move back to Orlando (or somewhere in the vicinity) but i don't think i could be a CM. i'd like to have some part in the overall company though...put my degree in journalism to use :)

While I have the dream of leaving the UK and going to live in "The Sunshine State" - I'm afraid that there is no desire to take a drop in income / standard of living etc especially with a wife and family to support.
Plus, daily exposure to WDW would, after a while, spoil the magic and it would become mundane.
Sorry folks, but for now I'm staying put, working hard and paying over the odds for my WDW holidays

I've been there and done it and I would cut off my right ear to be able go back there and work forever

I have a question that maybe you (or someone else here) could answer. When you finish the CP, do they ever ask you to stay on as an employee? Or is it just for the experience + college credit?
