What does housekeeping throwing away your bags have to do with 'now the Disney you grew up with and love?'
You don't have to go thru all of that trouble. Just use the shop parks app and they will deliver it to the resort.
I don't think the GF would have done more than a $100 credit tbh. It's an annoying situation but should be able to be handled relatively quickly.
I'm not sure how a gift card and a room credit are different, especially in this case. If the sum of items thrown away was $100 and you're given a $100 credit, what's the advantage of one over the other?I agree, I think a gift card would of been a much better solution especially since the manager knows you have to go and buy everything again.
I've had various issues with housekeeping at other hotels, so years ago I learned to always leave the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. We can go a week without housekeeping and we don't care about a perfectly made bed. If we need more towels, we'll just call housekeeping and have them delivered while we're in our room. Plus, some of the cleaners they use will trigger my asthma so it works best for us. Although, in October we didn't have the Do Not Disturb sign in our room so I had them deliver one to us when we first checked in. It was waiting for us when we came back the first day along with our luggage.
The OP didn't claim to know that they had exactly $100 worth of merchandise in the bag. They said that they had some small items that were worth less than $100. I'm sure that the manager at the resort didn't think they were crediting them the exact amount of the merchandise. The OP probably just said "less than $100" and they credited $100 as a round number. I don't know for sure, of course, but nothing about that rings out as a potential scam.As for the situation at hand? Well, they gave you a $100 credit. No, that doesn't help with going back out and getting items, but who's saying that the OP is being honest about this? If they bought a couple small things that were not a significant amount of money, and now have a $100 credit, well, they're making out pretty good. Not everything turns up positive this time of year. There are many scams out there. I hope this isn't one, but at the same time, some parts just don't add up.
A gift card is better in this situation because it's easier to repurchase all the items and just pay for them with the gift card instead of a credit card and having to pay interest on them again. Also, a lot of people use multiple credit cards so it's possible the room payment is not on the same card that was used to purchase these items.I'm not sure how a gift card and a room credit are different, especially in this case. I didn't realize at first that money was given back. The items were purchased at the parks so obviously they're easily replaceable. Of course it's better to have not happened at all, but it did, a refund was given, all items can be purchased from a phone and delivered to the resort. There's no reason to go back to the locations.
Isn't the expectation that she will use the MagicBand as she can charge $100 to the room before her bill goes up from where it currently is? Makes perfect sense to me. Gift cards can go missing.A gift card is better in this situation because it's easier to repurchase all the items and just pay for them with the gift card instead of a credit card and having to pay interest on them again. That's what I'm saying, not downplaying the mistake by housekeeping..but gift card or room credit the items can be replaced without any money out of pocket, it's not adding anything to the bill.Isn't the expectation that she will use the MagicBand as she can charge $100 to the room before her bill goes up from where it currently is? For the record, we've left our purchases on the table for years and would be flabbergasted in this situation. We've sporadically dealt with rude CMs at deluxe resorts and it is quite off-putting. Personally, due to some Mousekeeping hassles, we are more than happy to be DVC members without daily cleaning.
Not that rare. It's actually pretty commonplace to comp someone for an error like this. Part of that world-class service that most CMs (not all) at the Disney resorts still provide. We had an issue with Mousekeeping at AKL and eventually got a manager who solved the problem reasonably (our room was never getting made-up because our then-2-y.os. napped from 1-3 and the Mousekeeping folks refused to change the time our room was serviced). We got a good manager on the phone who agreed with us that kids are allowed to nap at WDW and he quickly changed our room-servicing time to 10 am. We didn't expect anything else but he then offered to give us a small credit for the missed Mousekeeping. I thought it was quite classy. That's terrible but that's good you actually got a room credit out of them. Rare.

Ok, when I read room credit I took that as $100 off the total rate of the nightly hotel price. I didn't think about that credit being applied towards the magic band room charge. That does make sense. That's what I'm saying, not downplaying the mistake by housekeeping..but gift card or room credit the items can be replaced without any money out of pocket, it's not adding anything to the bill.

I've had my share of nasty CMs. You have to get the right one on the phone.I could write a book about my experiences with service at the Disney Resorts but I'll refrain
Glad you had a good experience though
