Would Epcot have been a better choice for the West coast?

1. Would Westcot or the western Epcot have worked out better than DCA?
2. Would there have been enough room to put Epcot where DCA is?
3. I've never seen any plans for Westcot, would it have been the same countries in the WS an would the icon have been a geodesic sphere like our Epcot?

1. Maybe it would have drawn more initial attention and visitors, but duplication would've been overkill.

2. Absolutely not

3. Don't know... Sounds like you'll have to use your Imagination.

Some pics and info here.

1) Personally, the idea of WestCOT as a counterpart to Disneyland is tempting. And yet, I know I generally dislike inter-resort cloning since it ultimately detracts from the originality and uniqueness of each of the parks. (See: the DisneyParks branding scheme whereby all resorts are now unified by a single generic logo, akin to Walmart or McDonald's branding (always the same no matter where you go).) We know anything, basically, would have worked out better than DCA, so the question is, do you go with DCA with the idea of adding to it/converting it later on (as they are doing now), or do you go with WestCOT or a different concept? Because, although WestCOT will be great, all of a sudden Epcot's not looking so special or innovative.

2) They could fit WestCOT into the space, I am sure. (Not Epcot in its Floridian configuration.)

3) The link above has plenty of World Showcase info...there would be Mexico, Russia, France, etc... pretty standard assortment not identically mirroring Epcot's WS. And yes, Spacestation Earth would be a souped up Spaceship Earth, although a large spire was also conceptualized as a park icon.

I'd certainly prefer it over DCA. Although there are some aspects about the original designs for Westcot I'm not a huge fan of like the 45 minuite boat trip and some other things.

Anything would have worked better than DCA (well, anything with Disney Quality standards as we once knew them)

I've only been to DCA twice, but in all honesty, that was enough for me. I know that it has some rides I enjoy (Soarin' Over California and Toy Story) but it just doesn't have that certain "it" factor that Epcot has.

Also, something the size of Epcot would not fit in the land area allocated to DCA.

I think every Disney Park should be different. Obviously you need a Magic Kingdom for each resort around the country. I like how Disneyland Tokyo has DisneySea, WDW has Epcot and Animal Kingdom, and DL has DCA. Every resort has to be unique, its ok to have some duplicate parks but in my opinion Epcot should be in WDW where Walt originally planned it to be.

I agree...Epcot (as well as the other parks) makes WDW unique and I'd hate to see an attempt at it's duplication, or similar. What can I say...we're selfish and want Epcot only for us!

I actually like the concept of DCA but the main problem with it is that they built it IN California. Considering the number of locals that go to Disneyland (in comparison with WDW) that was probably the biggest mistake. Similarly I don't think that Westcot would work. What they really need is another Disneyland. By that I mean a second park crammed full with rides that you'd want to go back and visit several times a year. I think to do that they'd be better with something more like DisneySea (particularly as there isn't one in the USA)

I've been to DCA once and loved it. The Aladdin show, the Roller Coaster, Soarin', the rapids Ride(Sorry it was a while ago and I'm forgetting names), but I had a great time. It was something different, maybe I'm only 1 of a few though.
