Today, July 31, I went to downtown New York City for my 6 month viewing of the construction of the world trade center and took some photos that I would like to share with you. I will provide photos and captions of what is currently happening.

This first picture is an artists rendering of the proposed plan for the new downtown area. Before I show you the construction, I want to show you the proposed drawings and what it looks like now. ( All renderings are credited to wtcprogress.com )

This is a stand alone picture of the new Freedom Tower that is currently being built

This is what the Freedom Tower looks like as of today. Everyday construction workers are making history in the rebuilding of the site. In this photo the building is at about Floor 70 out of a proposed 104 floors. The building is going to have less floors than the previous towers but will be taller. This is going to be done by making the spire/antenna very tall. This will be the tallest building in the country upon completion.

Next to the site, is the World Financial District which survived the attacks. The area I was standing in to this picture is called the Winter Garden. The Garden has a glass ceiling which was destroyed by the falling towers, but has been rebuilt since then.

I took this photo to show that even on a Sunday there are workers going up the elevator to continue working on the building.

This is a rendering of the proposed lobby in the Freedom Tower.

This was the closest I was able to get to the progress of the lobby.

Rendering4.png

This is another proposed rendering of the outside of the Freedom Tower lobby.

To the right of the Freedom tower is the most recently completed tower. This is Tower 7 which was destroyed by the falling of the towers. Tower 7 is home of the CIA. Not sure if they are using the tower today.

More of update

IMG-20110731-00020.jpg

When you see this building from the ground it actually looks like a facade and doesn't even look real. But it is real.

Rendering2.png

This is the new Transportation Center for the trains, Currently they are still working on the insides of the center, and the actual building is no where near looking like this yet.

Rendering1.png

This is the Memorial Center/Museum which will house artifacts taken from the rubble and in the main lobby of it will have actual steal beams from the collapse of the buildings.

This is a photo of the building as it looks today, the museum will be open on September 11, 2012.

Waterfalls.png

This is a rendering of the memorial site right next to the Freedom tower. Currently the pools are completed. The pools represent the North and South Tower footprints. Along the pools are the names of the people that lost their lives from September 11, 2001. Also the lives that were lost in the 1993 bombings in the parking garage along with the people on the planes.

IMG-20110731-00016.jpg

Its hard to see but right by the trees is the North Pool. In less than 60 days, the memorial site will be open for the 10th anniversary. Already over 42,000 people have reserved passes to be there on September 11, 2011. On September 12, the park will open to the rest of the public.

I hope you enjoyed this New York Update :)

Aw man, nice pics, thanks. Wish more of the site were rebuilt as we approach the 10° Anniversary, but at least they're working on it and the wheels are in motion.

Wow... It gives me chills to look at it. I can still remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. God bless all the victims and their families.
That building is going to be absolutely beautiful.

Awesome! Thanks so very much for sharing that. This will definitely be a place I want to bring my boys to see.

Earlier this year we had the opportunity to visit the Oklahoma City Memorial & Museum. That place is totally incredible, so well done. Every little detail was so well thought out and perfectly executed. When we were there I said more than once that I hope & pray the site of the WTC & the 9/11 memorial is even half as amazing. Looks like it will be and then some.

To us adults, the sites of these memorials are hallowed ground with nothing at all put back on them because we remember the events that transpired there. My boys were not yet born when the Oklahoma City bombing took place. Only my oldest had even heard of it. His understanding was limited at best. Taking our boys to that site, the memorial & museum, was a profound experience for them. They learned so, so much not just about what transpired but also about the human factor in the details. It was beyond words. This is what I hope and pray will be accomplished at the site of the World Trade Center. I hope the history and the gravity of the human experience can be presented so that future generations of children who don't remember it or who weren't yet born can truly grasp, understand, and feel the significance of that place.

Thanks again for sharing. I really do appreciate it!

Did anyone catch the commercial-free (or semi-commercial-free since they plugged Chevy who sponsored the commercial-free thing) specials on Discovery Channel last night about the rebuilding at ground zero called 'Rising'? They did 3 episodes in a row almost entirely without any commercials. Like I said, in between they'd plug Chevrolet. Absolutely amazing. My favorite of the 3 hour-long shows was about the museum. That's definitely a place we will be taking our boys to visit in the next few years once it's fully-opened. They need to experience that. Just watching 'Rising' last night was quite an experience. I was moved to tears several times. I don't know exactly how many different installments are being done but they said there'd be another new, commercial-free 'Rising' next Thursday night. I know I won't be missing it!
