Nobody's yet mentioned the handball by the U.S. that went unwhistled. It may not have made a difference with the 2-goal spread and Friedel's insane skillz in goal, but not getting that penalty kick sure must have sucked for Mexico, especially considering it could have tied the game at the time.

Friedel would have probably saved it the way he's been playing!

I just wonder why he wasn't this good when he played for us (Liverpool)

I didn't see any during the Belgium match that should worry Sven and the English boys.
This SHOULD be the match of the tournament.

The brazilian squad can save money after Friday - they won't be needing their hotel roomsany more.

does anyone else feel that he USA plays like night and day sometimes?

I mean, they beat a pretty amazing Mexico team 2-0, but not a few days ago, they lost to what one analysis on ESPN said "not the best by any means" Poland?

I didn't wake up in time to see the game, but I am sure it was amazing!

and sorry maria! It was tough for a few friends of mine too! they both were born in Mexico and moved here in their teens, and they were so torn on who to root for! Though, I guess no matter who wins, they win too!

I think that's just football (sorry soccer!) I wouldn't mind betting the USA team thought "Poland are playing badly, we will easily beat them" perhaps they came into that game too complacent, which certainly cannot be said of today's performance. They thoroughly deserved the win.

Maybe they are one of those teams that will only perform well against decent opposition.

Yep, I actually think a lot of teams are like that. I even think England are like that, which is why I am convinced they will win on Friday!

so if Ireland and Spain tied, why did Spain go on? ESPN.com doesnt give a reason....

does it go back to play in the pools? or was there a shootout?

Yeah, it was 1-1 after the 90 minutes of the "main" match and extra time. So they then had a penalty shoot out, and unfortunately Ireland missed 3 but Spain only missed 2.

How about that US huh? Beating up on Mexico (sorry Maria).

I love it. Now I have to listen to even more soccer talk on radio and tv (read plenty of sarcasm here).

I don't have anything against soccer, but would rather listen to the sports talk here in Arkansas be about something besides soccer. I also miss my Sportscenter in the mornings.
