working out for Disney

I really didn't want to work out today, but I did. I couldn't sleep last night...anger issues on the brain. I was mad about some insane virus things a friend from college posted, then I was mad about some stuff my husband said, and then just mad at the world. I think I finally fell asleep just after 2am and was up just after 6am. After dropping the kids off at school and before the start of my workday, I did arms and abs. I didn't even feel like picking up the heavier weights at first, so I went with the 8s, but added 5 reps to each set of each type of exercise. After three sets, I was up for the 12s and did a couple of sets with those. Then it was on the floor for abs...which was kind of miserable since I'm still having tummy issues. I broke up 30 minutes on the bike over the course of the morning and came out with 10.03 miles. I really just want to crawl into bed and sleep, but at least I got it done. It wasn't pretty...but never regret getting in the workout.

We should find out today if the younger one made volleyball. Add that to softball and band (assuming we can't get her counselor to move her out of band), and I'm going to need three of her!

My husband is driving me crazy. He found out that Disney is requiring proof of vaccination for its Bahama cruises and he has me looking up prices and what not. We would have to go in 2 weeks and tbh, there is a lot of rescheduling I'd have to do. Our park hoppers and Boo Bash tickets have been purchased. We'd have to change flights and get a hotel room the night before the cruise. I'm not a personal assistant, you know? I'm still lukewarm on the idea of cruising right now. The only thing that has me slightly considering it is it is a Castaway Cay double dip. I did cancel our cruise for next month and rebooked it for Sept. '22.

If you do wind up cruising, please let us know how it goes. I know every cruise line is a bit different, but we just booked our first cruise for next summer. Who knows what things will be like with the virus by then, but I'm curious about onboard protocols. I know my parents canceled their upcoming cruise over Covid concerns, but assuming all goes well, they'll be joining us next summer. They don't do Disney cruises, so I know things will be a bit different, but I just haven't spoken to anyone who has been on any kind of cruise since everything started to shut down and I feel a bit anxious booking...even if it's 11 months out.

You could always ask in the cruise sub-forum. It's pretty friendly and some of the people are passionate about cruising. I think someone went on Royal Caribbean when they first started sailing again. I am sure a few people have cruised by now. I'm trying to talk my husband out of it. I don't feel ready to get back on a ship just yet.

I'll have to take a look. I talked to my parents tonight and it turns out, they only postponed until January. My brother is supposedly going over Christmas with his family. So, hopefully they'll be able to provide some thoughts as well. We've never been, so I have a whole host of concerns running through my brain...many that go well beyond Covid, but that's a different story.

Hello-

I did an upper body strength training workout this AM and I went out for a stroll. It's sticky out there!

On the bright side, I checked out Southwest flights and saved another $200 on our flights, that is on top of $150 I saved last month. I know they are credits, but we have tentatively planned to back to see my gran in October. This will likely cover a decent amount of 2 round trips. I know some people don't like the credits, but it works for me, since I have to fly to see my family.
Does your husband know you aren't completely comfortable with cruising at the moment? I'd be iffy on it too. I've never been on a cruise, but just the fact that with a pandemic, you'd be stuck on board with nowhere to go if there was an outbreak. At least with a standard Disney trip, you are on land and can leave if you start to feel uncomfortable. "Doubt means don't". Surely he'd understand if you tell him you'd rather wait on cruising?

Yes. He does. We were originally supposed to go on a cruise at the end of September, but I cancelled because Disney hadn't released their plans for cruising before the day I had to make the final payment. I rebooked us for Sept. 2022. I think the proof of vaccination made him feel more safe and that made him feel like that is a better option than the parks. Plus the cruises are 100x more relaxing than WDW holidays. :hilarious: Anyway, we talked last night and it's going to be a pain in the butt to move things around. We booked this in early Spring (as a potential plan b for the cruise) and my husband found great hotel rates at the Dolphin. For peace of mind, we like to arrive in Orlando the day before sailing. I'd have to change flights. It's not worth the hassle, really.

He is really anxious about going down there and I keep asking him if he wants to cancel and go elsewhere or push this out until next year. He wants to go still, but he is driving me crazy with his self-imposed restrictions. It's like, why go? I am on board with not watching fireworks in a large crowd, but he's telling me he won't go indoors to queue up for rides. I am not saying it's wrong, but maybe we should cancel if that is how he feels. It's a good thing I bought 2 six day park hoppers.

Hello-

I did a full body "as many reps as possible" workout. I never know how to do these. As many reps as possible, to me, means there is a some sort of timed challenge. This workout used weights and if you go too fast with weights, it's just momentum doing the work and not you. It's also a good way to injure yourself if you're throwing your weights around. So, I just pick a weight that challenges me, concentrate on my form, treat it like an interval strength training work out.

I am not sure I am going for a walk. It's garbage day and no matter what time I go, I always end up near a garbage truck. It's been in the 90s, so the trucks have been really rank. Plus, the stench hangs in the air long after the truck has moved on! :hungover::hilarious:

I guess what confuses me is, he doesn't want to queue up for indoor attractions for 15-30 minutes, but he's ok on an indoor floating vessel for several days? That doesn't make sense to me. But to each his own, right?

Why is he nervous? You're vaccinated. The odds of getting a breakthrough case are extremely low. You wear masks indoors. Disney is spreading out people if you eat inside. For the most part you're outside. Cruise ships, on the other hand, are petri dishes.

Even my nervous caberbous father who I call the mask police isn't nervous about going to Florida.

I'm not really a germaphobe(living with boys does that to you or is it the other way around) anyhoo I've always thought of them as floating petri dishes. Good luck and stay safe

I guess he figures that being on a ship full of vaccinated people is safer than being pent up in a queue with people who may or may not be vaccinated. Plus, I know he was looking forward to this cruise, so I think he thought it could still happen.

I think this is baggage he carries from his father's death. My husband was 16 when his father passed. His father was in his mid 40s when he passed away from cancer. His parents made the children think that their father was very ill, but that he would recover. It wasn't until 2 weeks before his father passed, that they told them all the truth. He is hyper vigilant about his health. I don't know how many times a year he goes to the doctor with some strange complaint that, thankfully, turns out to be nothing. I know his parents were trying to protect the kids, but it seems like it was misguided. My SIL has OCD that centers around germs and viruses, so I think this probably back fired on them.

Also, our son is still unvaccinated. He doesn't want to make him sick. We're not letting it keep us from doing what we want, we're just very careful about it.

I am a bit of a germaphobe. I wash my hands every time I get off of a ride at WDW. I am very impressed with how clean and sanitary the DCL ships are. Someone is always cleaning the railing that runs along the corridor. There is always someone in the ship bathrooms cleaning. That's not an exaggeration. Whenever I walk around, someone is cleaning high touch areas. You can't enter any restaurant without getting and using a handi wipe.

I spend a lot of time outdoors on a cruise, so that helps. I hang out in the 18+ areas. I avoid the buffet when possible, opting instead to eat in a proper restaurant. Disney ships never feel crowded to me. I think they've been designed to feel like that. But I still don't feel comfortable going on one right now. It's not going to be the same experience and I think the cruises are kind of expensive to have a diminished experience.

So I guess just kind of wishful thinking? He was probably so disappointed to have to cancel it. But it will be a lot more fun when you don't have to worry about Corona. Vaccination isn't a guarantee that you won't get sick though. It keeps the symptoms a bit more mild, but you can still get it. And if he's been vaccinated himself, it doesn't really matter whether he's on a boat with other vaccinated people or in the queue for an indoor attraction with unvaccinated people. YOUR protection is the same, whether the people around you have it or not. If one or more of the vaccinated people have it and don't realize because their symptoms are so mild, you have the same chance of getting it from that person as you do from an unvaccinated person who has it, right? The severity isn't related to whether the person who infected you was vaccinated or not. So IF he gets it, it doesn't matter if he got it from a vaccinated person or an unvaccinated one. There's a risk any time you go somewhere with a lot of other people.

Good luck. IMHO if you're both not comfortable maybe you should postpone and do something you both feel safe doing

Ugh. Any luck on getting your son vaccinated?

Speaking of which, I finally got my first dose last week. I walked into a Walgreens and talked them into doing it while taking a lot of Benadryl. I waited there 30 minutes just in case, drove home, and kept my Epi Pen nearby. I figured at worst we'd call an ambulance.

It would help if I actually had a primary care doctor who could have helped me get a vaccine at an actual hospital but nope, don't have one of those. 🙄 I miss my primary care doctor. ☹️

@HouCuseChickie I'm keeping my fingers crossed you don't get hit by that Hurricane this weekend/Monday

Thank you! My dad emailed me about this on Monday, saying it's got the potential to be a blend of Harvey and Katrina. Right now the models are looking like New Orleans, but you just never know when it's this far out. The crazy part...we need the rain. I just don't like getting all of our rain at once in a potential wind and flood event.

Wherever it hits it's going to be bad. Latest update has it at Cat 3 or more:( I'm hoping the weather people are wrong
