working out for Disney

Hello-

I am checking in with a "full body strength" w/o from the second week of the program and I am doing. It took about 45 minutes all in. I am hoping to get out for a walk, but we're still getting rain from Henri. It should clear out by the afternoon.

We went to Carlo's Bake Shop yesterday. I ordered a "cannoli cheesecake cup." It was cheesecake topped with cannoli filling. Wow, it was way too sweet. The cheesecake was made with ricotta, instead of the cream cheese I was expecting. It wasn't bad (except for being too sweet), but I was expecting a different texture. The cannoli filling on top is made with ricotta as well, so it would've been interesting to have those two textures together. My husband wanted to go there. I have only been twice since moving here and I have always been underwhelmed by it. It's kind of expensive, too, IMO. I don't mind paying more for things that are higher quality, but I can't differentiate this place from the other Italian bakeries I've patronized in my life time. lol

Today my life hopefully settles back down a bit. My dh is doing better, still on the restrictive diet but adding foods in and had his colonoscopy Friday. Mom fell and broke her elbow about a week ago and had a plate put in Thursday thankfully she's now on the mend. Oh yeah we we had a little something called Henri show up which meant cooking and freezing food because while living in the woods is blissful most of the time we're at the end of the line for repairs. Knocking all sorts of wood the power is still on and the worst seems to have passed. I'm getting my steps in most days and hitting the mat when i can. Today I'm resting because I haven't gotten proper sleep all week. There's some flooding but i don't care I'm at the top of the hill and going nowhere.

That's good about your husband gradually getting better. I'm sorry about your mom. At least it sounds like the surgery and recovery were uneventful. We're just getting lots of rain down here. We were under a flood watch, but we're obviously not getting hit like northern locations are.

I went in there once, because my friend wanted a coffee. It was towards the end of the night, so it was picked over. I think I'll get some goodies the next time I am there. I refuse to wait in line hours in line or whatever it is for Gideon's. I can make cookies at home, cheaper--which is probably the most mom statement ever.
Everything there is gf/df and refined sugar free but IMHO better than Disney cupcakes by miles. btw I can't see paying those prices for a cookie with a mile long line for that price even if I could eat it

Yes, I prefer a cream cheese cheesecake. On the other hand, I love a good cannoli cream. I know a lot of people go to Carlo's just to say they've been, but I've heard similar opinions from friends still living in NJ. Everyone comes out saying that the baked goods aren't on par with their local Italian bakeries and they're grossly overpriced because of Buddy's rise to fame.

For a taste of NY, there was a Carlo's bake shop location in Orlando at the FL mall food court as of a few years ago.

Today is a break day, but I was good with my workouts over the weekend. Yesterday was rough. We'd gone out to eat on Saturday and I'd eaten things with cheese twice that day. I've been relatively good with avoiding certain dairy and all gluten since getting back on this kick, so I paid the price for eating a wild game omelette with special cheddar, spinach artichoke dip, and chickpea pasta mac & cheese. My stomach still isn't happy...but I got through the workout. It also shows me I really need to exercise a little more restraint on the cheese.

It worked out well having today as a break day. I brought my vehicle in for service since I put so much mileage on it with our recent trip. At least today's service was free. The girls also got their ears pierced over the weekend...second piercing for Kendall and second attempt at a first piercing for Sam. We have this whole cleaning routine for 2 weeks, so it's a lot of fun with them in the morning and at bed time. Kendall never had any issues, but Sam was probably about 3 when we first tried with her ears and they got badly infected...like have the dr remove the earrings infected. I found a number of sources saying an actual piercer that works with needles (vs a gun) is the cleaner way to go. So, we went to a tattoo shop over the weekend for their ears. That...and the meal with all of the dairy was the last of K's bday gifts. Whew!

That's why I had my cartilage done by a tattoo artist/piercer. I was worried about infection even though i had my first set done with a needle and an ice cube with just plain old rubbing alcohol for cleaning

I had never thought of going this route for general lobe piercing, but when I looked to my local mom's group for suggestions, everyone recommended this tattoo shop. Sam's friend recently had a helix piercing done. Her mom is a nurse and said they also used the tattoo shop, so I figured that was the way to go. My friend wants me to go back and get a new piercing and a tattoo. I have no tolerance for pain! 😂

That's what they say. I had both of mine done at Claire's and no issues, knock on wood.

Note: don't ever get a piercing and then get on a 10 hour flight the next day. It's a very bad idea. 😂

I'd like to get my ears re-pierced. I'd never thought of going to a tattoo place, even though they do piercings. I guess I'd always thought they only did the more unconventional piercings. How did that work? Did they sell earrings, or did they let you bring your own? I've gone into Clare's and chickened out, because of the gun. I have had my ear pierced twice in my life and I just hated it.

OK, this my second attempt. Hopefully it won't get eaten this time.

This was my third time there. The first two times were with a friend and then my family, who both watched "Cake Boss." Neither one was impressed with it. We ended up there because my husband said he was "craving pastries." We first went to a mom and pop Italian bakery, which was closed, then Panera, which was picked over until we finally tried Carlo's. It will probably be a while before we return. :hilarious:

There is a Carlos' Bake Shop at the Mall of America in Minnesota near me and I have given in a couple of tries but I wasn't too impressed with what I had. I know I had a sugar cookie and something else. It was fine but not worth the price.

My husband bought a slice of red velvet cake. I tried it and just by the texture of it when I was eating I could tell it had some things like stabilizers and preservatives. It just had this weird texture. It's definitely over-priced and I wonder if the baked goods were always like that? Because they are completely mediocre and I am wondering how this bakery got picked up for a reality show, you know?

Hello-

I did an upper body strength training workout this AM and I went out for a stroll. It's sticky out there!

My husband is driving me crazy. He found out that Disney is requiring proof of vaccination for its Bahama cruises and he has me looking up prices and what not. We would have to go in 2 weeks and tbh, there is a lot of rescheduling I'd have to do. Our park hoppers and Boo Bash tickets have been purchased. We'd have to change flights and get a hotel room the night before the cruise. I'm not a personal assistant, you know? I'm still lukewarm on the idea of cruising right now. The only thing that has me slightly considering it is it is a Castaway Cay double dip. I did cancel our cruise for next month and rebooked it for Sept. '22.

On the bright side, I checked out Southwest flights and saved another $200 on our flights, that is on top of $150 I saved last month. I know they are credits, but we have tentatively planned to back to see my gran in October. This will likely cover a decent amount of 2 round trips. I know some people don't like the credits, but it works for me, since I have to fly to see my family.

I had their first piercing's done at Sweet & Sassy...but I guess comparable to going to Claire's.

I can add having to wear a batting helmet for a while to that list of bad ideas after a piercing. Sam didn't have issues last night, but they did some batting on Sunday and I guess the friction from the helmet caused some bleeding. Thankfully, neither complain of it hurting.

They offered a wide array of unconventional piercings. It was actually a bit of a challenge trying to find the more basic stuff on their booking site. He had a whole board of earring options. Sam was so nervous that she missed that it had exactly what she wanted. She got a basic silver stud with a bezel mounted CZ. I never thought about it, but that makes so much more sense, since a prong based setting can make cleaning more challenging. She'd wanted the even more basic silver ball studs. Ultimately, he had at least 10 options...maybe more. I have double lobe piercings on each ear...so, the same as what Kendall now has. Mine were done with the gun by the guys who bought my grandfather's jewelry store when he retired. Mine are also too close together, uneven, and done at too much of an angle. The needle has to be more accurate. The girls said it wasn't as fast as the gun, but there also wasn't that frantic "let's get it over with" scary feeling either. He was just very calm and mellow...which sounds like it was less traumatic.

They were selling his cakes at our local grocery store for a while. I'm not sure if they were shipped premade or if they were sending kits to the stores so they could be recreated onsite. I got one that was discounted, because I guess they weren't selling. I remember it tasting artificial...like it involved the preservatives that stand out in the taste of boxed non-chocolate cake mixes. I think I still paid close to $10 for this discounted 6" cake...and felt ripped off. The basic grocery store made cakes, without his name on it, would have been so much better. Honestly, I don't even know how he rose to fame or got that show in the first place.

Back in the early 2000s, I was obsessed with all of the Food Network cake challenge shows. Back in the early days, it was a lot of the true masters of cake that were on these shows. Buddy and Duff NEVER won. Duff usually got points for being creative. The execution was often rough, but he had these crazy ideas that got him some extra respect. Buddy was always bashed because his cakes weren't creative like the other top artists...like he lacked the skills to make something himself that was truly a showstopper. He'd just make these 5-tier cakes and that were total snooze fests and he never did well in the tasting parts of the competitions either. I know cake probably shouldn't be a bucket list thing...but one day, I'd really love to get a cake from this guy...
