I think the cake looks delicious!
I'm sorry about the furnace....I hate that when they try to convince you to buy extras or upgrade, etc. My husband works for an HVAC consultancy firm, so he knows about the different systems and I don't have to deal with that, but we just had to pay 200 Euros for annual "maintenance" which seems kind of bogus to me, but my husband dealt with it, and he knows more what he's doing than I do, so I have to trust that it's legit. Then suddenly the hot water heater started leaking last week, but it turned out to be calcium blockage in a pipe and my husband was able to fix it himself, thank goodness.
If he gets the job, how would you feel about living in a suburb? Somewhere that's not really in the city, but close enough that he could commute? I remember when I was there singing in Carnegie Hall, my mom and brother came to see the concert and they stayed with our cousins in Danbury, Connecticut, and it was a train ride from NYC to I want to say Baker, NY, (maybe Brewster?) and then a short drive from there to Danbury. I'm pretty sure the whole journey was less than an hour. If you got a place in one of those small places in CT or NY, it would be an easy commute, I'd think. My g-g-g-g grandfather was from Fairfield CT, and I've always wanted to see it and do some genealogy work in that area, so I've looked it up several times, and Woodbury, Fairfield, Stamford....they all look really close to NYC. You wouldn't HAVE to live in the City, maybe? Just a thought. But I totally understand not really wanting to move, either. I'm not a city girl, at all, so I wouldn't want to live in NYC either, but I wouldn't really mind living in one of those small places in CT.
Edit: And now I see that was already suggested. Ignore me.
I can't blame you for not wanting the hassle of moving, etc. I would LOVE a different house, but I kind of don't want the stress of moving. Not that we could afford a nicer home anyway, but even if we could, I'm not sure I'd want to move right now...we're a 10 minute walk from E's school, and a 10 minute bike ride from A's. Plus E's best friend lives on the next block over and we're 2 minutes (walking) from the grocery store, and less than 5 minutes from a nature park with walking paths. I'd like to have more public transportation options, but that's about the only thing I could wish for that we don't have, so the hassle of moving would be greater than the benefit at this point. I hope you can figure out something that works for you.
