@HouCuseChickie Never ever buy a Buick. Mom has had her brand new Buick in the shop three times because the check engine light has been on. Granted, we think it's probably the dealer, but still

I'm about ready to find another Honda dealership for servicing too. I had mine in for a tire rotation and I had to take it back in a week later because they didn't properly reset the tire pressure indicator. 🙄 Granted it's very convenient because it's about a mile from work and five miles from my house, but still.

That's good to know. I couldn't shake that they had issues with their previous ones and now that I know they're having issues with the new one...well, I think it's out of consideration. I heard from the person handling my claim and even she's having a hard time getting with the dealer to get the info, so hopefully she can grasp some of my frustrations just on that point alone.

At least your dealer is close. Mine is a 25-30 minute drive from my house. But I'd still be very annoyed if they didn't reset something properly like that.

Yeah, I have my pickings of Honda dealerships. It's one of the benefits of being in the Baltimore metro area.

I'm glad that you noted distance, because it's really something I need to think about when picking the make. If I went with Honda, Kia, or Mazda, the dealership is about an 8-10 minute drive from my house. If I expand the drive time to 12-15 minutes, I can add in Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, Dodge, Jeep, Nissan, GMC, Chevy and Buick. By picking VW for this vehicle, I wound up with the closest dealer being around 30 minutes away. My interest has been growing in one of the Acura models, and while I can't buy it from the Honda dealership, it's my understanding that Honda can service it...so we shall see. I just don't feel like driving all over Houston for car stuff. There are tons of options in the city, but some places feel like they're on the other end of the world.

Yup, Honda and Acura can each service the other.

If you were looking at the Enclave, something in the Acura lineup is probably going to be comparable...and better made.

Hello :)

I took yesterday as a break day. My arm was feeling a bit sore from the injection and my allergies were acting up...not from the injection, but from a canine visitor. I swear, I am a lost dog magnet! I am actually allergic to dogs, but don't react to all. Some dogs trigger the reaction more than others. In any event, I saw my neighbor's yorkie wandering in his yard when I was leaving to get the younger one at school. It's not normal for her to be out without a leash, but I figured he must be out doing some yard work. While I was in the pickup line, the cameras in the driveway went off. I figured it was just someone getting something from the garage. When we got home, I didn't see her wandering her yard, so I figured all was good. We pulled into our driveway, got out and heard jingling. I was afraid someone let Voodoo out, but instead...I found Sophie!

And it turns out, she set off the camera...

Thankfully, she had a collar and I was able to confirm it was my neighbor's dog. She was more than willing to stay with me to snuggle and play while we waited for her owner to come by. He was apologizing for her appearance, since she hadn't been groomed lately. I just wanted her safe. She's 5, but only recently learned how to dig out of her yard. She's an inside dog with a doggie door to said yard, so they may have to find a new solution when they're out. Unfortunately, I think I had a reaction to her, but she was soooooo sweet!

I was telling myself I'd work out today, but I had to attend a virtual funeral this morning and I'm just really feeling tired between the shot and the allergy meds, so more rest for me.

I had a feeling this would be the case. I used to see Infinitis being serviced when I'd bring my old Nissan in and I know my parents said the same of their Toyotas with Lexus vehicles also being in the shop. We shall see.

Awww....what a sweetie! I LOVE Yorkies. When I was in 7th grade, my choir/band teacher had one, and it fit in her apron pocket, so she'd wear this apron to awards night and as we came up to get our awards, we got to shake Melodie's paw. It's interesting you post this right now, because I just found out that this music teacher passed away earlier this week in a car accident. It's almost like she's saying "Remember me."

I'm kind of ticked off. Thursday, I rode my bike to my driving lesson and test when it was super windy. The bike fell over, and there's a plastic shield over the chain and it broke and was getting in the way when I pedaled. I took it to the repair shop, but due to covid, they are by appointment only, so I called and brought it in Friday morning. I told the guy I had to bring it in the morning, because I worked in the afternoon. No problem. He said 10:00, 10:30...so I got there at 10 and no one was there. I called, he said he was on the way. He gets there, tells me I can pick it up today at around 3:30. So I go there at 3:30....shop it closed, no one there, no one answering the phone...it goes to voicemail. So I leave a message for them to call me back. He just called me back and I said I was supposed to pick up my bike but no one was there. "Yeah," he says, "I'm sick" So he HOPES he'll be better Monday. Gee....thank you for the call to let me know so I didn't waste my time going there! Or at least picking up the phone while I was standing out there in the wind waiting for you and wondering where you were. No note on the door, no message on the answering service, no nothing....just doesn't show up.

Maybe it's a blessing...the weather is AWFUL today. Windy, rainy, hail once in a while. It was sunny when I went to the grocery store and then pouring rain when I came out again 20 minutes later. So it wouldn't have been fun biking in that. But I'm also supposed to have a doctor's appointment first thing Monday morning and now my husband will have to drive me because I won't have my bike back yet. OR I have to walk several miles, which is no big deal IF the weather's better, but I don't want to be walking 3-4 miles in a hail storm with lightning.

Hello--

I've been working out, I've just gotten kind of busy this week. I have been doing a 4 week schedule I found on YouTube, so it is freeeee!

It was my husband's 50th birthday this week, so I made him a "naked" chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. It was "naked" because I just frosted the layers and the top. I tried to get a thin layer around the cake to prevent it from drying out. I know it looks sloppy, but this is how it is supposed to look.

tempImageVhxi0C.jpg

Then our furnace broke on Wednesday. It wasn't so bad, because it was warm for a few days. Then we had someone come out and look at it, he was giving us the hard sell and being slippery. So my husband called another firm and they are coming out tomorrow. It's been cold, but the previous owners added onto the house, and that addition is on a separate HVAC system. That one works. Our bedroom and the home office are on that system. Everything else is not. I wish it was not, because everything else--my son's bedroom, kitchen, dining room, living room, etc are on the conked out system. If it was my bedroom, it would be easier to heat up with a portable heater and we have an electric blanket. So, we've been trying to heat the common areas with space heaters and a portable radiator.

My husband's previous boss transferred to NYC and she mentioned to my husband she could use his help. She called him to discuss the opening and when the job was posted on the system, she sent him the link. Anything is possible, but I think he will get this job. He is talking about renting a studio apartment and coming home at the weekends. I am not sure how I feel about this. I would never ask him not to apply, but I don't want to be alone all week. I know I could go up to NYC, but I don't have the appetite for city living anymore since this pandemic started.

What about moving just outside the city on a bus or rail line? I know moving stinks but at least this time you don't have to worry about school. Once you get west of the Hackensack River housing prices drop but commuting is easy

We both love this house and we both like the area. He would get a relocation package that would allow him to rent a studio apartment close to his work. I would just be alone all week or I could go up there from time to time. Maybe we can work something out, I don't know. I know I won't be able to get a house like this up north and I feel like have done enough moving for him at this point. I am hoping the airlines snap back this year and I can start applying for flight attendant jobs again. 🤞

I think the cake looks delicious!

I'm sorry about the furnace....I hate that when they try to convince you to buy extras or upgrade, etc. My husband works for an HVAC consultancy firm, so he knows about the different systems and I don't have to deal with that, but we just had to pay 200 Euros for annual "maintenance" which seems kind of bogus to me, but my husband dealt with it, and he knows more what he's doing than I do, so I have to trust that it's legit. Then suddenly the hot water heater started leaking last week, but it turned out to be calcium blockage in a pipe and my husband was able to fix it himself, thank goodness.

If he gets the job, how would you feel about living in a suburb? Somewhere that's not really in the city, but close enough that he could commute? I remember when I was there singing in Carnegie Hall, my mom and brother came to see the concert and they stayed with our cousins in Danbury, Connecticut, and it was a train ride from NYC to I want to say Baker, NY, (maybe Brewster?) and then a short drive from there to Danbury. I'm pretty sure the whole journey was less than an hour. If you got a place in one of those small places in CT or NY, it would be an easy commute, I'd think. My g-g-g-g grandfather was from Fairfield CT, and I've always wanted to see it and do some genealogy work in that area, so I've looked it up several times, and Woodbury, Fairfield, Stamford....they all look really close to NYC. You wouldn't HAVE to live in the City, maybe? Just a thought. But I totally understand not really wanting to move, either. I'm not a city girl, at all, so I wouldn't want to live in NYC either, but I wouldn't really mind living in one of those small places in CT.

Edit: And now I see that was already suggested. Ignore me. :P I can't blame you for not wanting the hassle of moving, etc. I would LOVE a different house, but I kind of don't want the stress of moving. Not that we could afford a nicer home anyway, but even if we could, I'm not sure I'd want to move right now...we're a 10 minute walk from E's school, and a 10 minute bike ride from A's. Plus E's best friend lives on the next block over and we're 2 minutes (walking) from the grocery store, and less than 5 minutes from a nature park with walking paths. I'd like to have more public transportation options, but that's about the only thing I could wish for that we don't have, so the hassle of moving would be greater than the benefit at this point. I hope you can figure out something that works for you.

Yes, moving is no fun, so if he gets the job, maybe just see how the living situation goes for a few weeks before any big decisions. Also, as a side note here, let's just say (hypothetically only) the airlines were hiring again, and you got a job with them. Are you guaranteed your choice of location (example, an airport in your state, within reasonable distance to your present home). Or, do they send you to another state, for your new (location), so so speak, and you'd also end up maybe 5 days a week, living elsewhere, for your job? This random thought just popped into my head, as I read your post above.

I would be open to moving, except, between Dec. 2014- Aug. 2016, I moved from Illinois to London, where my husband lost his job. So eight months after we arrived in London, they sent us back. Ironically, the day they told him he was going back was the day I started applying for social worker positions. So, we moved back to Illinois, where my husband was unemployed until he got his current job, which brought us to NJ. He lived in a long term hotel for months until my son finished 8th grade and then we all moved here in August 2016. I have always been supportive of him trying to advance his career, but I feel like I am allowed to have a "limit" of how many times I will move, you know?

I really like my house, too. It's really quirky and it doesn't look like the other houses around here. I have nice back yard that feels like a mini-resort in the summer. I have a lot of privacy in my backyard and one side of my house has a creek that runs along it. I love to sit outside early in the morning and listen to it flow.

If an airline were to hire me, I would have the option of choosing my top three choices for a base. I was going to "commute" if I was based anywhere east of Chicago. Otherwise, I would have had to live in a crash pad. After six months, you could apply to switch bases. As a junior FA, I likely wouldn't be getting the overseas trips right away, so I would be gone probably 1-3 nights here and there. Most of my time would be spent sitting at the airport or my house waiting to fill in for a sick FA or an FA who was working a flight that was delayed in another city. I honestly was going to let this FA thing go, because I am worried about being passed over for my age. But if I am going to be alone in the week, why not give it another try? The worst they can say is no.

Hello-

Checking in with my workout for the day. It seemed like it was upper body focused and it was a chilly one. :hilarious:

So, we need a new furnace and they can't replace it until next Thursday. I can stay my bedroom, so it's not a big deal. I will just give my son the option of staying on campus this weekend if he wants heat. lol. He is one of those people who "runs hot" anyway. He wears flip flops in the winter and he only wears a winter coat if it's well below freezing. So, I think he might want to come home. This is where all the good food is! :p We can put space heaters in his room, if he wants. But he always has his ceiling fan on and a window cracked all winter long.:coldfeet: So I am thinking he won't want space heaters in his room.

I am hoping to get out for a walk later. It's windy and not warm, but it's really sunny outside without any clouds.
