I feel your pain. My husband went and did a sleep study, but didn't want a cpap. The doctor gave him a mouthguard, but he stopped using it because he apparently grinds his teeth at night or something and it was making his jaw sore. He not only snores, but will actually stop breathing and I have to shake him to get him breathing again. It's really scary, but he doesn't want a cpap and he found the mouthguard uncomfortable.

That's really scary about the breathing part. I would have to assume it's some form of sleep apnea. I know people can be stubborn, but that can be really dangerous. It killed my friend's uncle. Maybe there are newer options that might help that wouldn't involve a cpap? I keep seeing some commercial about some procedure that's a new alternative. I know nothing about it, but it could be worth the research. I have a mouth guard for grinding. I hate wearing it, but may need to start, because my jaw has been giving me more trouble of late.

That sink is gorgeous!! I love that color of blue. I've always liked the look of those, but I don't know how practical they would be...I worry about splash all over the place.

I JUST noticed as I was typing....it kind of looks like an eye. The drain looks like a pupil.

Edit: My husband says "That is AWESOME!"

I have wanted a sink like this for the longest time. I always thought it would be out of the budget, but I feel like we got a really good deal on this set. I never saw it as an eye before, but now I probably will! 🤣 The cabinet and mirror won't arrive until later in the week, but the vessel and faucet arrived yesterday. I'll have to take a pic so I can share what it looks like in real life.

My husband partially closed the vent in the room so I wouldn't have to sleep in a sauna. I slept much better last night...although, I stayed up late, so it's not like I was trying to sleep at a reasonable hour. I've had my husband speak to dr's about his snoring. He's never tried a CPAP, but the ENT he'd spoken to want to look into a sleep study and possibly surgery if the mouth guard and medicine he prescribed didn't work. My husband wanted no part of this and decided it was a "me problem." I can't force him into it, so at this point, I live with it the best way I know how.
It is very much a HE problem. You are losing some sleep. He is working on a massive heart attack or stroke. If he has sleep apnea he is stopping breathing all through the night. My heart had expanded over time to accommodate for my body needing more oxygen. As good as that sounds for the Grinch it is very bad for a human. I finally decided to get tested after I fell asleep while driving and woke up when the tires went of the highway and was very close to a major ravine that would have been fatal if I hadn't awoken when I did and thank god I hadn't ventured into the oncoming lane. It is much more then your problem, it is yours, your families, people you don't even know and especially HIS. Within 4 years of nightly usage of the Cpap machine my heart had reduced down to normal size and I was able to get a job driving commercial buses and have never had a close to sleep driving session since then. He might not need the machine and hopefully the less invasive other things will fix it. But, getting to the bottom of this is really for more then just snoring.

I love your bathroom, it's beautiful. I really like that natural stone inlay in your shower, as well as the sink. My master bathroom came with a vessel sink, but it's not as nice as yours. That one is really sharp. 👁️

The floor is also that same kind of pebble stone tile. It's currently covered up with supplies, but this is an earlier pic before grouting, flooring, etc. went in.

You can't really tell in the pics, but the ledge for the inlay is some of the wood look floor tile that was left over from the guest bath.

I have wanted a vessel for so long. I had been doing some digging for a while and was about to give up, because nothing I liked was in the budget. For the heck of it, I started digging on Amazon and found a bunch of package deal options that were a fraction of the cost. Good reviews too. My parents had one in their last house. Theirs was more basic because it was mounted on a more ornate piece of granite, but I always was so jealous of it. 🤣

It never ceases to amaze me how many excuses people make rather then admit they have a problem and doing things to prevent even more serious problems. I used to go to yearly meeting at the sleep clinic and the average of 6 out of 10 where still fighting using it. Most of the excuses were it's uncomfortable on my face or I can't breath with it on. The problem with that last thing is that it is actually forcing air into your lungs which is the opposite of not being able to breath. You cannot force, but you must do your best to convince him. If he is secretly worried about not being able to have an intimate life, I'll tell you what a nurse told me. "I don't know about you but when I'm doing that stuff I am usually awake." Cpap is for sleeping! I have been using one for over 20 years now and it totally changed my life for the positive and is probably responsible for the fact that I am still here as well. I can't really even fall asleep now without it. BTW, a Cpap machine ends teeth grinding. It is a reflex for the body trying to get air in. Once on the machine the grinding stops. Even my dentist that routinely asked me if I grind my teeth reacts when I say I use a Cpap by saying... "Oh, then in that case you do not grind them."

Oh, I agree, but I can't make him agree. My friend lost his uncle a few years ago. They found him slumped over in his arm chair in the living room. He was late 40s/early 50s and died during a little snooze in his chair. Autopsy attributed it to conditions related to his sleep apnea. I'm so glad you were able to catch your condition before anything horrible happened. That's amazing that the Cpap has gotten your heart back to normal size. I know it's not the only cause, but he's also put on some weight and become more sedentary. I'm trying to get him eating better and moving more, but it's a struggle. Still, I'm hoping if I can get him caring more about his health from these angles, he'll be more receptive to seeing someone about the snoring.

Good morning!

Yesterday was cold and rainy, so I didn't venture out to walk, but I also didn't want to be stuck in my gym. So, I decided to walk inside. It's kind of monotonous, but I guess it's not much different than a treadmill. I walked about 4 miles inside the house and then did five sets of arm work and some stretching for my hamstrings and hips. I had my alarm set for 5:30 today, but I just couldn't do it. It wasn't lack of sleep this time. In fact...I slept really well. I just did something to tweak part of my lower back and I didn't want to move. I am going to work out today, but I think it's going to be just biking. If my back can take it, I may do some kettlebells. I'm going to start light with the 5lb bell to see.

All of these stew posts are making me want to take a roast out of the freezer! It's actually cold here! This is perfect stew weather. So, what did I make last night...chicken salad! :D We didn't get much in the way of wintery weather like the towns just to our north, but we did see some flurries and had some sleet.

(that is my husband, not me 🤣 )

Oh...and a pic of the vessel. Not going to unwrap it any more since I don't want it damaged.

Try approaching it for how it could affect his family prematurely. Snoring is a symptom not the problem. He is snoring because his wind pipe is collapsing and preventing oxygen from getting to his heart and other vital organs. Stopping snoring is just a joyful side effect for all, including himself. Snoring wakes up the individual as well. Ears still work even when asleep. Sedentary is also a side effect of the body not getting the needed rest and creates a situation of chronic fatigue. Feeling fatigue is reason for sedentary behavior that naturally leads to weight gain.

Good points, and I feel like he's always tired, which says to me that whatever sleep he is getting isn't good sleep. i.e. whatever conditions causing the snoring may be keeping him from getting proper rest. I still would like to focus some on his diet and getting him moving though, since he eats so much junk. That's certainly not doing him any favors. Not that he can't have treats or fun things, but he doesn't need to be eating hot dogs, hot pockets and pot pies all the time either.

I don't want to discourage you from doing that, any weight loss will help, but he is tired because he never gets into deep sleep. The lack of air is what wakes him up, but he my not be completely awake. He has gone back to just slight sleep so he isn't even aware of what is happening. He will seldom wake up completely, although he will. If we don't get into that deep sleep our body doesn't really get the rest it needs.

I gave him a little pep talk about it (things to do when resetting the router to get his work phone functioning) ... told him about what you said and reminded him about my friend. His reply was something about wanting to buy a new mattress. I reminded him that he was a horrible snorer even when that mattress was new. I am going to keep on him about it, but he's got to want to do something about it.

Well, you can't help people that won't help themselves. I've lived long enough to at least notice that. Don't give up though.

Good morning. ☀️

I did a lower body workout today as part of a six week challenge I joined. I think I am going to drop it, though. It's part of an app that's $20/mo and I am no longer enjoying it. I like what I was doing last week and it's a much cheaper subscription. There's just more variety and I feel like it makes me challenge myself.

I'm hoping to get out for a walk today, too.

I've been planning my Valentine's Day cake (because I'm bored and I'm tired of cleaning the house to stay busy). I've already ordered some fondant and heart cut outs. I know it's kind of early, but I was only browsing yesterday and supplies were running low. I got burned a couple of years ago trying to order cut outs, colored fondant the first week of Feb, but everything was out of stock until after the 14th. I've since learned my lesson!
$20 a month seems really expensive, especially if you aren't enjoying it and there's one you like that's cheaper. I'd say let it go and stick with what you enjoy. I personally won't pay for a fitness app when there are so many free videos on Youtube, etc. It might be worth it for some people, but I'm too cheap.

It's probably my husband's "favorite" time in history. Not that he enjoys war, but there's so much to be learned from that time and so many strong figures with interesting back stories. It's interesting that you bring up that story about Hitler. It reminded me of a story we'd heard while we were in Germany about a plot to take him out in Munich that pertained to the big Hofbrauhaus. Your example sounds like a pretty good analogy to last week as well.
I don't know if you saw it, but Arnold Schwartzenegger compared last week to Kristalnacht. I hadn't thought of that, but yeah, that works too.

Incidently, please be careful next week if you live anywhere near a capitol building. I've read there are going to be "events" in all 50 states at capitol buildings like what happened last week, and they are going to try to prevent the transition of power. Avoid state capitols and surrounding areas!

We bought a brand new bed less than a year ago....my husband still snores as much as ever. A mattress doesn't keep you from snoring.

I actually saw the article this morning. I'm not sure how best to describe it, but it made me feel a bit more sane since his comparisons seemed to echo a lot of how I've been feeling with what I've been seeing...for a while now.

Thankfully, we do not live near our state capitol and aside from work and school, softball is the only thing I have planned. I am legitimately worried, especially after seeing some of the crazy (but not violent) rants from some friends and family who have become fairly radicalized in all of this.

Update on the day...

I used my lunch break to fit in my workout. I normally allow 50 minutes for the bike with a 2 min cool down and a 15 mile minimum requirement. Today, I limited myself to 45 minutes and got in 15.59 miles. So, I guess I was really in the mood to bike! I tried a swing with the 5lb kettlebell (which really feels like nothing) and my back said no. I tried to row with a resistance band, but my back also said no. I eventually settled on some shoulder and upper back work with my set of 5lb dumbbells, some non-weighted shoulder and back exercises from an old workout video I used to love, and some leg stretching to loosen up my calf muscles and hamstrings.

My husband said he wants to walk after work today. I don't know if he wants company or not, but if he's OK with it, I may switch into pants (shorts for indoor workouts) and join him. We'll see.

It is a bit steep, but I justified it because it has so many different types of programs (and I was using it daily). They have 3 different types of yoga programs, a powerlifting program, a couple of strength training programs, a kickbox/strength training program and circuit programs. They have a few zero equipment programs, too. But if I am not enjoying it, it's not worth it.

I get overwhelmed by the choice on YouTube! Plus, I like opening an app and having my workout pre-selected. Otherwise, I will sit there and get paralysis by analysis when it comes to choosing a workout. I get down in the grass wondering if I'm overworking a muscle group--stupid stuff like that. I'll sit there trying to decide which video to do, a half hour will have passed by. :hilarious:

Re: sleep apnea.

My husband works with a guy who had some procedure last summer to have his tongue narrowed to treat his sleep apnea. I guess they use "burn off" the excess tissue and they cauterize it? This man said he'd rather have this procedure than a CPAP machine. I don't know, I think I'd rather use the CPAP machine. I've come to like my husband's CPAP machine. The noise it makes it is like white noise and I find that soothing.
