working out for Disney

Good morning. Up earlier today than I've been up in some time. Got on the bike for a 10 min warm up and went a little over 3 miles. Then went downstairs and did the slide board for 30 minutes. I've realized that treating it like a HIT workout, at least for now, is the best thing I can do. It keeps me moving and keeps me a bit stronger through the session; however, I was really feeling it in my hips as I was nearing the 20-25 minute mark. Not sure if this is what they mean by a cool down, but after dropping my older one off at school, I had about 30 minutes before I had to log into work, so I curled back up in bed. 🛌😴💤 The only con was having to emerge from my warm blanket cocoon. I will probably get in some arms and some stretching during a meeting I have in a little bit.

On a fitness related note, I finally found a decal maker on Etsy who had some runDisney decals for the distance I did last year. It's easy to find the single race distances, the 19.3 challenges, as well as Goofy and Dopey...but 22.4 just wasn't there the last few times I looked. The Donald Duck decal I'd previously put on the car had disintegrated, so I bought this to take its place.

Not as many as you'd think:banghead::banghead::banghead: Dh packed 4 lunch containers but the boys eat at least a quart at a time. I can understand the hot and sour because it's all veggies with just a little tofu but the other 2 are heavy soups:banghead:
Soups don't seem to stretch far. I made potato soup last night, but I wasn't feeling great, so I only ate about a 1/2 bowl, and A won't eat it at all, so it was mostly just E and my husband who ate it, and then there was just enough for the three of us tonight to each have a bowl and there was probably another bowl for my hubby. And that was the biggest pot I have! I'm going to make a double batch of chili tomorrow that will probably also only make 2 meals.

Day 3 of being back on a workout schedule. I really did not want to get out of bed. I've switched off of Nuun and have been drinking this light iced tea. I think the caffeine is messing with my sleep, because I am exhausted yet wired as soon as I get into bed. I'm going to have to set an earlier cut off time for drinking this stuff. Still, I got out of bed and worked out.

My legs and hips were really aching from doing slide board the last two days, so I changed it up this morning. I'm trying to stick with the HIIT concept in whatever I'm doing, so today...I warmed up on the bike and then alternated between the bike and the squat machine. Normally, I just use the squatter like I would lifting weights...i.e. doing sets for a designated number of reps. This time I was doing it for time. So, I'd do the squatter for a minute or two, then back to the bike for a bit, and then back to the squatter, and so on. The squatter had me drenched in sweat and really winded. I'm not used to treating it like a cardio machine! I wound up doing a total of 45 minutes this morning. I may do something similar tomorrow, but with the mountain climber...and then on Friday, go back to slide board. If the weather is nice, I may get out for a walk on Saturday. Hey...if I put it in writing, I'm more likely to make it happen...right? That didn't happen yesterday with my arms. I got in one set and forgot about it until 9pm last night. Ooops!

Hello-

Checking in with a lower body workout. I've decided to crank up the intensity a bit and shorten my workouts. I feel like when I do this, I feel warm for the rest of the day. It's not even freezing here, but I wear a t-shirt and 2 fleeces over that and I am shivering. Since I've done these super sweaty workouts, I'm not so cold. I think it raises my metabolism and helps to keep me warm. I used my jump rope and my 30 lb. kettle bell this AM.

I *finally* got my sourdough starter to a point where I can use it. It took just over 2 weeks. I switched to whole wheat flour to feed it. I put it in this little closet where a hot water heater and furnace are and within a week, it took off. Now, I just need to figure out how to use it. You have to time it just right to use it and then you have to wait and wait and wait before you can even start messing around with kneading and folding. Then you have to worry about "over proofing" it if you don't knead it/laminate it/fold it at just the right time. I think I will try this once and go back to my no knead bread dough. I let in sit in the fridge for days before I use it and I use only 1/18 tsp of instant yeast for a few loaves of bread. The long sit in the fridge makes it tasty.

Some good points to working out. The past few months, I've really ramped up my walking routines, and it's helped to shed some pounds (although I've somewhat dieted -- cut back on portions, etc.). Another benefit is that I'm not exerting nearly as much energy (or getting winded) climbing up steep hills, etc., as a few months ago. So I guess that means my cardio health has also benefitted. :)

Funny story...while we do love our breads, especially sourdough, I've never been into making bread. We were watching some comedy show a couple of weeks ago and they were talking making jokes about funny things you'd never hear. One was a "Sourdough Stopper." We had to Google how to make sourdough and learn about starters to get the joke. 🤣

I think walking is such an underrated form of exercise. It's really beneficial in so many ways, not just physical ones. I feel like it helps me with my mental health more so than yoga or any of the other types of workouts I do. I hope to continue to walk as long as I can.

This was my fourth attempt. All the websites I was looking at were saying it should take 7 days to have a functional starter. I would get to seven days and think my starter was a failure, because it still wasn't doubling in size after 4-6 hours. So I would toss my starter out. Then I found a YouTube channel where this guy said it took him 11 days to get his starter going and this was in the summer. He also said he found rye was the best flour to get a starter going quickly, followed by whole wheat. I had some whole wheat flour, so I used that. I was also putting my starter on top of the water heater, but it was getting really liquid-y (and too acidic). So I put it on the floor on top of a towel and that seemed to slow down the rate the yeast were consuming the sugars in the flour and the starter began to puff up, instead of looking like a milk shake. It only took about 16 days of trial and error. :hilarious:

Good morning.

Today was a full body workout, I guess. I used a lot of different equipment-my kettlebells, my weights, gliding discs and a short elastic loop. It was pretty intense, but I felt better for it afterwards. I was so angry about yesterday and I felt like I was able to get some that anger out in my workout.

Tomorrow is my first weigh in in two weeks. I think I will be up a little bit, but not much. I reigned in the treats this week and tracked my eats in my WW app, plus, I have remained active throughout the season. I am well with in my range for a healthy weight, but I just get worried when I see the scale go up even a tiny bit. I don't want to find myself in a situation where I have to lose 50+ lbs. again.

I was supposed to wake up early to work out, but even with cutting out the caffeine, I was still in bed and unable to sleep for a bit. Last night, was more that I couldn't get comfortable. Still, I decided I'd have to push my workout to middle of the day...which is dangerous, since lately...I've been known to make excuses if I don't do it early. Well, I just finished my workout...almost as planned. I went back and forth between the bike and the climber for 45 minutes as sort of a HIIT workout, but the climber began to irritate my knees, so I added a few sets of the squat machine as well. I did a couple sets of arm work with light weights while I was on the bike, but gave it up as soon as I added in the squatter...since I usually rest those weights on the squatter seat and I was trying to make the transitions go as seamlessly as possible. I just felt really drained through all of it...I pushed, but I'm clearly tired. At least it's done.

And while I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing...I've added a mini nap into my mornings. I have to leave the house just before 7am to get my older one to school. I'm usually home by 7:15 and have to log into work by 7:45. So, I've been curling up in bed for 30 min for a little extra rest before the start of the day. It has occurred to me that this could in some way be hurting my bedtime issues.

I've been getting up around 4:45 AM for the past 2 years. I did this because I would be wide awake at that time and one day I just thought, "Let me do my yoga and see how I feel." I felt really good, so I kept it up. I was energized throughout the day and wasn't tired until the evening. I don't know what happened, but late May last year, I was getting really sleepy around 10 AM. I started napping most days. Now I am in a vicious cycle I can't break. I don't know what changed that made me tired in the late morning. I am wondering if I am not sleeping well because of the anxiety about what's going on? But now, I've gotten into this thing where I am struggling to stay awake past 8 PM and I think my cat naps are probably contributing to that.

There is a lot happening right now and I think we can bring it to bed with us, even if we think we aren't.

Hello-

Today was an upper body workout. It was only 15 minutes, but it was good. It used a pull up bar and I have plenty of room for improvement when it comes to doing pull ups, e.g. I can't do a single one without assistance.

I am closing my FB account. I had a 24 hour ban because of the things I said about the people at the Capitol Building the other day. It's funny how you can use that platform to foment discord leading to an attempted coup, but you can't use to call out the people fomenting that discord. 🤔 You can also use the c-word to describe women, but it's not hate speech. I get it, it's a private platform and they can moderate it as they see fit. But I can stop myself from being monetized by FB.

Anyway, it's Friday and I am going to have pizza for dinner. Life is good. :)

Is it stuff you posted yourself or did you comment on someone else's? I haven't posted anything myself because I'm just too angry about it all. I did comment on one thing my cousin posted, but it was just a news story. Though my comments were quite heated. I don't blame you for closing FB. I've thought about it, but it's the only contact I have with my family in the US.

It was a post on my own page. I use messenger to chat and video chat with my family here and my husband's family, but I am looking at other apps. I know my husband uses What's App to talk to his family, but I think that is owned by FB, too.

I've seen several friends post about similar bans. It really ticks me off because I have seen so many inflammatory posts from people that absolutely disgust me...like unfriend virtual and real life disgust me...but theirs were allowed to stay without punishment. As it is, I've been procrastinating opening a close friend's message...because I know he and I are not in political agreement...but I feel what's going on is well beyond politics and delves more into the state of humanity and personal ethics, among other things. While I didn't totally lose it on him yesterday, I still sent quite a rant and I'm probably going to scream if I get another "I just don't see it that way." I really do wonder what sets it off on FB. Several people have said that the bot that reads everything can be super sensitive and many people have been reinstated by disputing the matter, but that's a lot of work for something that shouldn't have been censored in the first place.

I was previously getting up around 5am, but the longer we're home, the harder it gets. I got into bed around 10pm last night...exhausted...and was still up around 12:30. I tried, but I had to go back to sleep a little while longer. I guess I'll try and do something later on today to get in some exercise. Part of me thinks it's my room temperature. I sleep in our guest room due to my husband's snoring. While it's fine at other times of year, it gets ridiculously hot when we run the heat. It was in the mid 30s last night...thermostat set around 70...and all of the other rooms were pretty comfortable. Me...my room was easily mid 80s. Everyone else is wearing winter pjs and I'm in shorts and a tank top...and still burning up!

You are right that recent events make it even more difficult to sleep. I know I was sitting there for a while having rant after rant in my mind.

Yes, Whatsapp is owned by FB. I have to have Whatsapp because that's how work communicates with all of us and how we exchange shifts and such. Same with choir...any announcements about rehearsal changes or whatever are put in the Whatsapp group. But FB is what all my family uses, and if I could just call them on my cell phone, I wouldn't need FB, but to call overseas on a cell phone is ridiculously expensive. So FB it is.

What sort of heating do you have in your house? Do you have heater vents in every room? Usually there's a sort of dial on them to close them, just like the heater in a car. You can adjust them so that rooms you don't use aren't heated, etc.
