working out for Disney

I haven't done a ton today, aside from tidying up my office and doing some dishes, but I'm wiped out from yesterday. I had to log into work for a couple of hours to do some testing. We have a bunch of products merging and I needed to validate things for our group. After that, I went out for 5 miles. My legs and feet were still pretty uncomfortable, but after the first couple of miles, I decided to try something other than my usual intervals or straight walking. I ran point to point goals. For example, there is this wicked hill right near the lake that can make me out of breath even at a walking pace. I pushed myself to run the full hill yesterday without stopping. I did similar things along park areas, certain water features, etc. After that, I went into birthday mode for my husband.

The kids finished decorating the cakes. I haven't uploaded any of the videos yet, but here are a few from decorating and finished products (pardon the major mess on the counter). Side note...I've heard all of the issues with getting flour, but powdered sugar was my tough to find item.

The older one won. I have a feeling I would have liked the younger one's near flourless cake a bit better, but the older one had a better presentation and my husband said hers was more cake-like. And in case you were wondering...the one is dirt and a hail storm softball while the other is dirt and rain softball. :hilarious: That hail storm also broke one of her brackets for her braces, so now I have to see if the ortho needs to work her in this week. I wasn't planning on going in until next month. Ugh! She knows better than to eat the hard candies!

We had a nice take-out dinner from a local Italian place we've been meaning to try and watched Rise of Skywalker before the kids went to bed. The home bar crawl was a lot of fun.

We started out with vodka soaked gummi bears in that area where the kids were decorating cakes, since there's usually candy over there.

49789757333_e0f35b2bb4.jpg

Next, we went into the game room. Most of the game inspired drinks involved me having to buy more than I wanted to buy, so I went with something covering things we already have. It's called a Super Mario 1Up. It's Midori and Malibu...and my husband's expression says it all!

Oh yea, he decided we needed to be in hats for this.

We then moved on to the formal dining room. He had single malt scotch, while I had some sparkling wine.

Then it was on to the diner for rum spiked Coke floats.

49791643861_57c2faf23d.jpg

We hit up the tiki bar for the 5th leg of this crawl for some rum punch. It had pineapple juice, passion fruit juice, grenadine, and some cherries.

49791953807_50bd7edf43.jpg

Had to pose with a tiki in the shot!

49791643686_336dd950d3.jpg

Finally, it was the last stop, which was our sports bar. Our family room area is where most of our sports watching takes place and game 7 of the 2019 World Series was on...so it felt about right. I have him the option of beer or a Bloody Mary. He made the better choice and went with a bloody!

49791643966_7c0a5ca425.jpg

We also found a good rock station on I Heart Radio...everything from the last 60s to mid 90s. All in all, he was very happy with his birthday festivities. Long story short on the funny glass...I got it for him for his last milestone bday. We had gotten a friend something similar and they became a silly tradition with us.

If I get some energy this evening, I may throw in a workout. I still need to clean up some more...but I really don't feel like adulting at the moment!

That Midori/Malibu drink sounds awful. My teeth hurt thinking about it. I love the frozen coke in your mid-century modern room. It's kind of like a 50s diner thing going on. Your husband looks pretty cheery in those last few photos. :hilarious: I guess I would be, too.

I have admittedly been horrible about working out during this pandemic. Two weeks into it, I hadn't been feeling well. I had tried working out, but stopped Midway because I was too tired to continue. Anyway, I had a kidney infection. It took me a good two weeks to get over it. It's not the first one I've had, but I knew when I got the back pain that I had one. It was brutal. I could barely move for several days, and then of course I didn't want to do anything that might hurt one of my kidneys (you need to be careful not to twang your back or hit the kidney afterward). And because I get motion sick on the treadmill and I can't be outside without being a sniffling mess right now, that means I couldn't exercise. Unfortunately, that means my migraines have now come back with a vengeance. I was getting them once or twice a month. Now it's several times a week.

We don't have room for an elliptical (unless we'd get rid of some of the ancient equipment we have, though I think my mom would have a fit), and I wouldn't buy one without testing it first, although I did see some pretty good deals online. I found this for around $125.
View attachment 464897

Resistance straps if I want them, and similar motion. I think this will get me through until the gym reopens, and then it's something to use here on days I can't make it to the gym. I'll give it a try either tonight or tomorrow.

I've lost 10 pounds during this whole thing. I think between the kidney infection and just the fact that I don't think I've been eating normally. Not a bad thing, but I didn't want this to be the reason I lost weight.

Your kidney infection sounds painful. Glad you're feeling well enough to workout again.

So, since I can't post photos, I'll tell you about when the storm came through.
I was awakened by heavy rain and wind and knew it was bad. I woke my wife and we grabbed the dogs and went downstairs and got in the closet under the stairs. That is when it got bad. We did not hear the stereotypical sound of a "freight train" but more of a loud, low pitched whistling and howling sound from the violent wind and limbs smacking the side of the house.
Then trees started snapping and boy are they loud when they pop in two. That lasted for maybe a minute or two with all the noise and loud popping of trees snapping and limbs breaking and landing on the house, then it calmed down about as quickly as it started. Of course, it was pitch black as the power went out almost immediately.
Once the heaviest of rain eased up I got some blankets and quilts and pillows and instructed my wife to stay inside and her and the dogs made a pallet in the floor of the closet, where the spent the rest of the night.
I went outside to survey what I could and was astounded by the damage spotlighted by my flashlight. Leaves, limbs and trees everywhere, then right up the road (which was blocked in both directions) power lines and transformers were down.
I spent the rest of the night sitting on the porch swing waiting for daylight. Was astounded by the damage to trees, and lack of damage to the house at the same time.
Checked on the neighbors, found much more damage then got busy trying to start the long process of cleaning up the mess. Nowhere near finished, but we are making progress and counting our blessings.

Wow. That sounds like quite the experience. Good to hear you, your wife and doggos are ok. I think tornadoes sound so creepy. The wind gets into every crack and crevice makes all kinds of otherworldly noises.

Today marks day 2 of going back to my routine of working out before work. I haven't been sleeping well and thought that little bit of extra sleep might have been better for me, but with me naturally waking around the time I could be working out, I figure my body may be trying to tell me something. So, biking (avg 15.5 mi), today was legs (kick backs, plies, squats, calf lifts), abs, and still keeping with the walking for a bit. Like yesterday, it was only 5-6 min on the treadmill at the end, but yesterday, I also got back on later in the day for a handful of mini walk segments that added up to a total of 30 min walking. I'm hoping this helps all of the tightness in my lower legs and feet. I'll be throwing in some walking after work today as well...well, after I run to the store for a pick up. The kids have been complaining about clothes and stealing certain things from each other, so I ordered online and will making a quick run to pick it up this afternoon.

I also made some super yummy dinner last night. I have been experimenting with dairy in my diet again. I've tried full blown straight up cheese twice and the love wasn't there like it used to be, so that's good. In fact, the mere thought of eating a piece of cheddar kind of turns my stomach. I had some grilled brie, which was very good, but I found I had to eat it with all of the accompaniments that came with it (grilled onions, raspberry jam, micro greens)...otherwise, it just didn't taste appealing. This is actually a REALLY good thing. The cheese still irritated my stomach a bit, so I think I still need to be mindful of my lactose intake. So, back to focusing on low or 0 lactose dairy. Last night I made a creamy garlic parmesan polenta with onions, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, and sausage...served with a couple of fried eggs (one of which I kind of destroyed).

49799883592_5849b4ed24.jpg

I do something kind of similar with oatmeal. I mix ponzu sauce with steel cut oats and whatever cooked veggies I have on hand. Then I top it with an egg with green onions and sriracha or sesame oil.

Hello-

Nothing much going on here. I'm just working out and walking when the weather permits.

I scored a 10 lb bag of King Arthur AP flour. 🎉 I guess that's big news. So I can be reckless with my baking again. I have the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies, but I am trying to slow my roll here. I baked baguettes yesterday. 😂

I know this sounds kind of awful, but I really miss having alone time in the day. It was so quiet and calm here, before this virus hit. My husband and my son are such loud talkers. My son's bedroom isn't even on the same floor as mine and I can hear him on Discord talking to his friends--with his bedroom door closed. My husband has one of those big, booming voices. It usually doesn't bother me, but I think this shelter in place isn't helping. My husband and I have been walking in the afternoons, but I really needed some space today. He seemed offended that I wanted to go alone, but I just wanted some fresh air and to be alone with my thoughts. I know, in the scheme of things, this is just belly button fluff, but I just feel like things that barely bothered me before have become magnified with all of the other upheaval going on right now.

I have had a stomach issue that I can't get sorted out right now, so I have been lying down here and there until the pain goes away. I often fall asleep in the day, since the pain keeps me up at night. (OK, I am taking naps.) So my husband will come up to the bedroom and ask me if I'm sleeping. :cautious: I am in bed with my eyes closed. I don't think there is much ambiguity about what someone is doing lying in bed with their eyes closed.:p

Does he have a reason for coming to get you? Like...is there something he needs help with, or he just doesn't think you ought to be sleeping during the day? I'm sorry you have stomach issues!

Don't ask, but the coffee maker is in our room. :hilarious: He comes up throughout the day to get a cup and he sees me in bed. I think he wants to vent about something someone said on a group phone call or whatever has him fired up. So, he will vent and then ask, "Is your stomach hurting you?" I say it is and it kept me up. He says, "You should have a rest, then." Wow, what a fantastic idea! :hilarious:

Good morning. ☀

I did a couple of YouTube workouts. One was a hiit and the other was a 10 min. abs routine. I did warm up and stretching on my own.

Here are low impact, equipment-free workouts, if anyone is looking for some.

I am making matar paneer for dinner tonight. I am also feeling tempted to make chocolate chip cookie bars. I've never made them in bar form, but I like the idea of a cookie in bar form--kind of like a brownie.

That green drink was disgusting, but it fit the theme/purpose of that room, so we had our obligatory couple of sips. I think my husband is pretty thankful I couldn't find our old shot glasses, because that thing would have been horrible to shoot. That is our diner room. I can't recall if I shared the pictures after I completed the boomerang and starburst wall. I keep feeling like it needs a few more boomerangs and my husband thinks we need more tin signs. He's been using it as his office since he started working from home, so nothing new is really happening in there right now.

His drink in the formal dining room put him ahead of me in alcohol intake, and I think it shows towards the end. Still, it was a lot of fun and broke up a bit of the monotony in our stay home activities.

Today is the 4th morning in a row that I've waken up to do my routine workout. Well, what was routine until things went off the rails in January. I've also been adding in after work afternoon activity as well as keeping some of the little things I was doing during meetings where I am not a contributor and can just watch the presentations. The treadmill walking at the end of my morning workouts and in the afternoons has been working well and all of this seems to be helping loosen up my calf muscles, but the true test will be when I try to run this weekend. This morning, I wasn't able to tack on any treadmill stuff at the end, but I did a short run/walk outside in the driveway to make up for it.

As for the treadmill...it's done. It still works, but for the last year or so, it was giving off this horrible melted plastic smell if I used it for too long or on higher speeds. Yesterday, that melted plastic smell shifted to a strong burning smell. There is no external evidence of a fire and the belt doesn't appear to have shifted to cause friction burning, but it was bad enough for me to stop and my older daughter could smell it in her bedroom, even with both the gym and bedroom doors being closed. I unplugged it, but for a good hour after this happened, there were all kinds of strange noises coming from what I assume to be the motor housing and power source area. So, it's hitting the curb for trash pickup on Saturday. If it were a pricey treadmill or something new, I'd pursue some kind of repair, but it's going on 5 years old and I believe I paid less than $200 for it when it new. That's dirt cheap for a treadmill. I would like to replace it with something decent, but the $ I'd earmarked for that went towards the new vehicle down payment. I do have some other $ I could put towards one, but I'm going to wait until we have a better idea of summer plans. I'm an optimist and the notion of upcoming travel helps keep me sane, so I'm not ready to just throw all of my summer fun $ into fitness stuff just yet.

That's a lot of flour! Happy baking! Flour has made its way back in to our stores, but last week it was powdered sugar that was the impossible find.

I can related to the issues you're having at home. I think a lot of us are going through some variety of this. We went for a family ride last night just to get out for a bit and shortly into it, I just wanted to be in the car by myself. In fact, I decided to go for a ride by myself after taking the rest of the family.

Hope your stomach is feeling better!

Day 5 of waking up and doing the routine workout thing. The only thing I missed was my quick walk at the end...but that's because today is my early day. We get one day a week where we can log in early and take a shorter lunch so we can log out about 45 minutes early. So, I'll either walk a little at lunch or after work. Speaking of walking, while I did my short walk in the driveway yesterday, my older one and I went for a 2 mile walk after work/school yesterday. People have been trying to leave fun little things along our green belts (in addition to the teddy bears, plush zoos, and rainbows on people's houses) to cheer people up. The painted rock groups have really stepped up their game and people have also been leaving shells and fairy gardens. I have yet to find a fairy garden, but we did find a bunch of shells and painted rocks yesterday.

There are more, but you get the idea. The kids do want to paint some rocks, so I may make a trip to Michael's. I don't mind leaving the house and take precautions, but the a/c isn't working properly in the new vehicle. Not sure what's wrong, but I have to go into the dealer on Monday. Not happy about it.

We also spotted a neat butterfly during our walk. I'm not sure if its wings are damaged or it's supposed to be this way. The cut outs are symmetrical, so it seems natural...unless something bit it or ripped at it while its wings were closed. I don't know how it could fly well like this.

That's a cute idea. I've been seeing people drawing things on the streets and sidewalks. It is mostly positive messages. Things like, "We will get through this together" and "Thank you, health care workers." I did pass one that said, "Corona sucks" with a drawing of the virus. That one warmed the cockles of my black heart. :hilarious:

Hello-

I did a "Tonique" workout. This one had a lot of hand stands, which are a struggle for me. But I try and it's kind of fun. I never got out for a walk today, since it rained all day. :cautious:

I tried to get a Telehealth appointment with my doctor to discuss my stomach pain. My appointment is June 3. It's just wearing me down a bit.

We're booked on a Disney cruise in September. My final payment is due the first week of June. I'm thinking we're going to have to pull out. I am waiting to see if we get ill from this and develop antibodies. (I will gladly forgo a cruise if means not catching this.) I don't know, I'm just not feeling it.

I made mushroom-goat cheese quesadillas for dinner. My husband loved them and he doesn't even know it is a Weight Watchers recipe. :p

Sometimes husbands are a bit clueless! But they can be awfully sweet, too. Sometimes I want to clobber mine over the head, and then he does something really thoughtful and I'm like "Aaaaaaw....I need to remember this for the next time he does something stupid!"
