working out for Disney

I feel like it's been forever since I posted. Things have been so busy and my back went out on me last Friday. I guess it hadn't fully recovered from my last bout with back pain and I lifted a little too much to really make it mad. It's crazy, but the pain hit at the most random time. It was a good day and a half since I lifted anything heavy...I was pulling into the driveway after dropping the kids off at school...and then BAM! So, I babied it the first 48 hours and have been trying to ease back into normal things so it doesn't stiffen up too much. I guess maybe it's an omen that I built in a little more time between long runs with this half I'm doing on New Year's.

Last night, I put together a batch of GF DF shortbread dough, so we can make cookies for Santa today. I also bought pre-made gingerbread dough. Obviously, I can't eat that...but the kids can have fun with it after we play with what i can consume. As you might imagine, we're having turkey tomorrow :hilarious: but spiral ham dropped to $0.97/lb yesterday, so I picked up one for tonight so we can pick at that, along with tamales and shrimp cocktail. After that, it's egg nog and gift wrapping...yeah...we FINALLY decorated inside! I'm also getting a new food processor, so I can make latkes. My husband offered to give it to me for Hanukkah, but I decided to wait until Christmas for him to give it to me. So, I figure we can make latkes later on this week. I can no longer consume regular matzo meal and chopping up GF matzo was $$$ and not the same taste, so I'm just trying GF bread crumbs this year.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Joyful EVERYTHING!!!

Happy 2020! 🎉 I hope this a fantastic year for all of us! 🥳

Merry belated Christmas and Happy belated Hanukkah.

I've been busy cooking and traveling. I've kept up with my workouts. Playtime is over now and I need to get serious. I've eaten so much good food and imbibed many an adult beverage. We went to DC and dined at this fantastic Indian restaurant (Rasika) Saturday night and Jaleo on Sunday. I was hoping to do some serious walking while we were there, but the weather was too nasty and wet.

I did some yoga to change it up this AM. I'm going for a walk this afternoon with my husband.

I made a loaf of brioche this morning. My son requested it, so why not?

Fridays are when I weigh in on my Weight Watchers app, it's not gonna be pretty. 😓

I hope your back is feeling better. This time of year can be so stressful without back issues, let alone with them.

I love tamales. I don't have access to them like I did back in Illinois. I knew someone who made them and sold them at Christmas time. There isn't a very large Mexican population here. I can get pasteles, but they just aren't the same.

Good morning. ☀

I did a 60 minute yoga practice called "Strong and Supple." I can't believe I used to be able to hold these poses without having to back out of them because of burning muscles. :p

I have switched gears and gone back to yoga for a bit. I was doing short, intense workouts, but I was starting to feel hungry all day. I never feel full. I am waking up in the middle of the night with my stomach growling. I hoping going back to yoga will help with that. Unfortunately, I got a pull up tower for Christmas, so I could properly do my short, intense workouts. But I honestly need a break. I tend to go back and forth between these two activities, so I will get to use it in the future.

My son got me a nice fitness/daily planner for Christmas. It's really cute. I have begun to write three things I am grateful for everyday so far in it. :)

Today is the first day I will have the house to myself since December 19. I am looking forward to the quiet.

Have a great day, everyone. 🌸

Good morning! ☀

Fridays are my weigh ins and today was not pretty. WOW. It gave me the kick in the pants I needed, though. I think some of it water retention from eating restaurant food, alcoholic drinks and more sugar/carbs than usual. But some of it is weight gain, if I am being real. I did all of my meal planning for next week yesterday and it's mostly Weight Watchers recipes. :p

Anyway, I did a YouTube video this morning. It was yoga with some cardio intervals sprinkled in. I'll post it here in case anyone is looking for a free, no-equipment work out.

My husband wants Vietnamese food tonight. I feel like we've been eating out way too much lately, so I might cook tonight. I'll see how I feel. I usually get Vietnamese carpaccio, but there's still a lot of sodium in that.

Have a great Friday, everyone! 🌸

Oh my. You are a brave soul to step on the scale after the holidays . . . Lord knows, I should follow your lead, but I'm still too chicken!!!

Good for you for taking the plunge, and also for finding a suitable workout video. I'm taking an extra long walk today to help burn a few of the (excess!!) calories I ingested over the past few weeks.

Thanks! I babied it and I think it healed up pretty well. I was worried because I've been on an air mattress the last few nights with family in town, but so far so good.

Tamales are so common here that we can buy them frozen in the supermarket or even fresh in the cases that have party trays. Of course, they're nothing like some of the family-made ones I've had from some friends, but they're not bad either. Funny story...they were being sold in bulk at a softball tournament in early December. I looked down at one of the kid's bags and she had a brown bag that was labeled with nothing more than "pork." I can't remember how long it took for someone to realize that she'd bought a bag of tamales and wasn't just toting around a bag of straight pork. :hilarious:

I may have to try this during my taper. I'm not supposed to do any real cross training during this time, but stretching (yoga was a green light) and abs/core are ok.

Oh, and Vietnamese carpaccio sounds amazing!!!

I've been in a strange spot with my workouts. First I had the back issue and then I thought I was dealing with a cold. Thankfully, that cold was just allergies, but it kept me from doing everything I was planning on in the fitness sense...including missing my 10k simulation run. I did at least get in my half marathon on New Year's day, and all of the family came out to see me cross the finish line (even my parents were in town). Of course, it helped that it was in town and the start/finish line was only a 5-10 minute drive from our house. Now that I'm tapering, I also have to be really selective with what I do. Today, I went out for a short training run, but I also brought the kids, since they expressed interest in doing 5ks and got real running shoes for Christmas.

The older one did well at first, but she's been really lazy of late and faded fast. The younger one didn't hydrate well and had some issues at first, but after mile 1, she was strong and pretty fun to run with. We actually had some nice conversation during the run when we weren't fighting with the older one.

It's hard to believe, but this runDisney trip is right around the corner. By this time next week, I'll be in my room at AKL, trying to get some rest for the half marathon. I know that anything can happen, but after running that race on the 1st (plus the 1 mile warm up I added on), I feel really good about all of this. I guess it also helps that this house is now latke free. I waited until the 6th night to make them, but I think I made around 7 dozen latkes...and it's pretty much impossible for me to eat just one (or three).

It'll be a little bit before I really get back into my gym to use everything, but my parents did bring me a few magnets to jazz up the place!

I lost 50+ lbs about 2.5 years ago. I found getting on the scale once a week, no matter how "off program" I've gone helps me keep the weight off. I didn't want to do it, trust me. :p

I went for a longer than usual walk yesterday, too.

Hope everyone's holidays were great!

Congrats on the half-marathon! That's good that your girls are interested in running with you now.

Your puppies have gotten so big! I am not surprised they love latkes. What's not to love about fried potatoes? I love them with sour cream.

I love AKL. I stayed at Kidani a few years ago with my cruise friends. It's gorgeous. I'd love to stay there again, but my husband says it's too far out. (He prefers Boardwalk, so we can walk to two parks.) It is, but I usually take Uber/Lyft when I am at WDW nowadays, so it's not a big deal to me.

Good morning.

I started out doing a workout that used ankle weights and my pull up tower (because my husband keeps asking if I've used it yet.), but I had to stop. The metal fasteners were digging into my ankles and it hurt. I just stopped, because no matter how I adjusted them, the fasteners ended up on this bony part of my ankle. I just put a different workout in.

I was looking for yoga videos on YouTube this AM and I came across this video called "Sexercise for Men: Training for the Bedroom/Sex Gigolos. Season 6" OMG, it is unintentionally hilarious. This guy takes himself seriously and you can tell he's an insecure egomaniac. :hilarious: I would post it here, but I don't want to offend anyone, b/c his workout tights border on obscene--yes, he works out in only tights. 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway...it's mild here, so I am going to get out for a walk with my husband later.

I am making Moroccan Chicken with lemon, chickpeas and couscous for dinner tonight.

Have a great day, everyone. 🌸

Waving hi! The holidays aren't over for me until Monday when the guys will finally get out of my way. I'm doing the new yoga with Adrienne 30 day series called Home. I'm almost done unChristmassing the house and today I hit the Can Can sale. Moving cases of canned tomatoes counts as exercise:hilarious:

Good morning. ☀

Today was a 30 minute gentle yoga practice. It felt good--nice and stretchy. I'm starting a 108 day yoga program tomorrow, so I wanted to keep today on the light side. I may or may not stay with the program for 108 days, but my intention is there.

I am hoping to get out for a walk, but it's really windy here today. I can deal with walking in colder temps, but it's a little harder when strong winds added in. :coldfeet:

I was am making artichoke and spinach stuffed shells tonight. This is a new recipe for me, so I'll see how this.

Have a great Sunday, everyone! 🌸

Good morning. ☀

Today I started a new yoga program called "Level Up 108." Today's class was called "Cross Train." It kept buffering, though. It was a bit frustrating, because it took me out of 'the flow,' and then I had to tinker around with my iPad. :p But I enjoyed it, it was pretty vigorous. There is a meditation component to this program, but I'll do that later.

Yesterday's spinach and artichoke shells were a hit. I was really doubtful, because the shells were stuffed with spinach, artichokes, a bit of mozzarella and a can of pureed cannellini beans! Straight out the oven, you would swear they were filled with ricotta. My husband started to eat them and said, "These are really cheesy." I did tell him what they were stuffed with and he was shocked. :hilarious: Tonight I am making sushi bowls with shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers, avocado, roasted tofu, crab stick and rice. I make a little sriracha mayo sauce to drizzle on top. 😋

I hope everyone has a fantastic week ahead of them. 🌸

I hope it continues, because it's nice to have someone out there with me.

I wasn't sure with Cookie, since she's a fairly picky eaters, but she wolfed that thing down.

We stayed at AKL/Jambo back in 2013. I was afraid about the resort's location, but the bus service was excellent and Kidani was the only stop for additional passengers (which was never a ton), so it ended up being better wait and transportation times that better located resorts. AKL to AK and back seemed to be the only really sluggish one of the bunch. It's really too bad they can't come up with a decent way to connect the resort to the park. Either way...AKL is a beautiful resort and I know my friend is going to be shocked. She's only stayed value and offsite...neither of which are bad by any means...but there is a definite wow when you walk into Jambo. I'm just a little freaked out because the only time I stayed there was our car accident trip of 2013 and it might trigger some bad memories and vibes for me. I just couldn't beat the price. We were booked at CBR and when discounts came out, AKL was only $12 more. There were no discounts being offered for CBR (well, minus pirate rooms), so I switched to AKL. I'm sure we're going to miss the convenience of the skyliner, but I've been told that CBR is so big that my tired legs might hate me for it on a run trip.
