working out for Disney

I'm trying to catch up...this thread doesn't move nearly as fast as the Chit Chat thread. I had 300 pages to catch up on there....only 15 here. But yeah, we're basically done with AK. I have a trip report going. I'll have to post a link, but for those who don't want to take the time to read a whole TR, we had a mostly great trip. With AK, DD got heat exhaustion shortly after we arrived there, and we spent most of the day in Pizzafari trying to rehydrate her and cool her down and ended up having to take her to first aid when she said she was really cold and asked if she could put her sweatshirt on....she had a fever. Then there was an issue with fastpasses...we had FOP fastpasses, but my son just wanted to go back to the resort, my daughter was in tears thinking it was her fault no one was having fun, my husband was frustrated and didn't want to be there, so he took A back to the resort and I tried to cancel their fastpasses to free them up for someone else. Only I didn't know how, so I asked for help and the CM deleted MY fastpass and E's instead of my husband's and A's. So then we had to get a guest service person to get them back for us, but when we went to use them, FOP was down, and they were hoping it would be back up later, but later was a special event for which we had no tickets, so we couldn't use the fastpass anymore. It was just one thing after another, and A refuses to even set foot in AK again. We got Guest Services to give us fastpasses for another day, so we did get to ride FOP, but my poor brother didn't fit in the ride vehicle and had to be escorted out, embarrassed, and we got multi fastpasses for the inconvenience. And then the weather didn't cooperate...it was POURING with lighting strikes, so everything was shut down but the indoor shows and Navi River and FoP, so the standby lines shot up to several hours long...we left. It's not our park. Though E and my husband both LOVED FoP. A never got to ride it, but I don't think he'd have liked it...after riding it myself, I was glad A wasn't there, because I think he'd have been screaming. We'll stick to the other parks and I'll make fastpasses for FOP for E and M for future trips, and we'll skip AK other than their FOP fastpasses.

We always seem to have issues when we visit AK. It's a beautiful park, but we have our own tales of AK misery and bad luck. I know it can be really tough in the warmer months since I believe it's built in sort of a bowl...making it warmer. All of that lush foliage also has to add to the humidity. We don't usually spend a lot of time there and with the distances you guys had to travel, I could see just writing it off to make the most of your vacations.

You know your body best. But you run in such high heat and humid conditions, so I could see why you might perform better when you drink more electrolytes. I think I'd be getting charley horses if I ran where you live! :hilarious:

Yes, it definitely has to help with our local conditions. What drives me nuts is that cooler weather aggravates my breathing issues. I ran pretty well when it cooled off this weekend, but I paid for it. I'm more likely to get leg cramps like that in cold...but I'm probably just heat adapted because of where we live.

I'm not sure if it was from the cooler weather running (aggravated my asthma) or if my body just needed a break, but I did not work out yesterday. It was so bad that I felt like I was coming down with something. Monday is normally my break day. I entertained the idea of getting up to make up for yesterday, but I didn't. I stayed up late to try and watch the Astros/Yankees game (only made to the bottom of the 9th) and killing flies (we think something died in the chimney during the flooding- couldn't get to it- and now we're in the nasty fly phase). I was also a bit emotionally drained. I was playing on Facebook before going to bed and saw that a childhood friend had lost his battle with cancer yesterday.

Most of us (myself included) had no idea he was sick. He was pretty successful in the music industry and has a grade school aged daughter, so I'm sure he was just trying to have some peace in all of this. I'll spare you all of the memories that have been flooding my brain, but it's just been weighing a lot on my mind today. He's a guy I knew since I was 4 (lived a block a away), his younger sister is my age, we traveled in the same social circles for a little bit in high school, we started going to the same synagogue at some point growing up, and we both were top singers for our school...meaning we were in most of the same select groups, both in and outside of school. We were only 30 minutes apart during college, but never had a chance to meet up during those years. My husband isn't the most nostalgic person, so he doesn't fully understand my reaction. Hopefully, tomorrow will feel more normal.

I love AK, but will only go there in the morning hours. Have to leave after that -- just way too much humidity for me.

Last time we had a warm weather WDW trip, we saved AK for the evening. It was a little bit warmer than the morning, but the humidity was lower, so it was pretty enjoyable. Still, we tend to have issues if we try and spend a full day. Something about AK makes us cranky after a couple of hours.

Hello-

I took a break yesterday. I just felt like I needed the day off. I did make a bunch of lime macarons yesterday, though. I am going on a Disney cruise next month with friends, so I am bringing half dozen macarons for each person. I am filling them with homemade lime curd, homemade lemon curd and homemade orange curd. I'm freezing them as I make them. I haven't made them in a while, so yesterday's efforts look uneven. Some are tiny and some are large. I am going to try again this week. Nobody is going to be mistaking these for professionally-made macarons. :p

I am not able to go to WDW this week. There were loads of seats to get to Orlando, but getting home on Thursday or Friday is a different issue. There are not many seats left and I wouldn't have the priority an employee and their dependents have. We are driving down to DC Saturday morning and we'll get charged for our room even if we don't show up. It's become a tradition to spend Labor Day weekend in DC since we moved here three years ago. I'd be disappointed if we had to cancel, plus I have dinner reservations at some tasty restaurants that I don't want to miss.

I did a quick cardio workout this AM. I was the only one awake and I heard something moving around in the room next to where I work out. I ignored it the first time, but the second and third time freaked me out. I paused my workout and I went upstairs to see of my husband was awake and that's what the noise was. He was still asleep and as tempted as I was to wake him to check it out, I refrained. LOL So, I went back and wrapped up the final 5 minutes of my workout with every single light on downstairs. :hilarious: I do have a back door down in that room, it opens to my back yard, so maybe it was an animal leaning up against it? I don't know. I'll check it now that the sun is up and everyone's awake. LOL
This reminds me of when I was a teenager. Growing up in Wyoming, not much ever happens, populations are small and everyone knows everyone...crimes are few and far between. So I woke up once in the middle of the night, having heard something outside my window. I was terrified, convinced there must be a murderer out there trying to get into my bedroom, and of course by this time, our street was almost empty. Everyone had moved, so there were no neighbors to hear anything. I kept hearing the noise and I finally got the courage to get up and look out the window. It was a deer, eating the grass and clover under my window, and he kept brushing up against the side of the house. I felt so silly!!

Chicken and waffles with strawberry butter at Metro Diner in Savannah last night. More calories and carbs than I usually have, but good stuff. This is a half order as the full order comes with two more pieces of chicken and a whole waffle.
As you know, I don't follow a real strict diet and do have the ocassional treat. This was a treat.
Another treat today for lunch, Zunzi's, one of my favorites.

I am sorry to hear about your friend's passing. You knew him from a very young age and through your formative years, so I think it's totally natural you'd be upset about his passing. Let the memories and the feelings happen. Don't tell yourself that you need to be over his passing today or tomorrow or whenever. There's no deadline for grief. ❤

That would freak me out, too. I read too much true crime and I need to stop. Not every noise I hear outside is a crazed murderer looking for a way in. :hilarious:

Good to see you in these parts again. Hope you and Mrs. Epcotisbest are doing well. The waffles look delicious and I never thought of making strawberry butter. I bet my son would like that.

Hello-

I did my usual light box following by workout routine this AM. It was fast and furious and over before I even knew what hit me.

I got my "thanks, but no thanks" from Delta today. It only took them two months. What frustrates me is they never even requested my resume. I think it's because I indicated that I never had a job where I was responsible for someone's personal safety or health on their questionnaire. I knew it was coming, but it still stings to finally receive confirmation. :( So, I don't know what my next move is here.

I am making baked tofu and red bell pepper with homemade sweet chili sauce and avocado over brown rice. I haven't made this in a while and I really enjoy it. I love the crunchy bell pepper and the buttery avocado together.

Sorry to hear that. You've tried so hard with a few of the airlines, and it's been a "no go". I scratch my head wondering just what the heck it is that they are looking for. I know that in flights I've been on (as a passenger), the flight crew has been all ages, so it's not an age thing. Also, there have been a mixture of men and women attendants, so it's not a gender thing. And as for being responsible for the safety of others, well, not everyone has that in their background, so I imagine most candidates check "no" on that question. I doubt that would cancel you out. Must be so frustrating for you.

Here is a recipe I found I'm gonna try when I get home. Looks really easy.

In the email, it said they received 150,000 applications, so they look for any reason to winnow down the applicant pool. Ah, well, onward and upward.

Thank you. I would like to try that with raspberries. My son goes through so many cartons of them a week. I'm going to have extra cash when he goes to college. :hilarious:

Hello-

Today was active recovery. It was a stretching work out. I definitely needed it, given the previous two day's workouts. :hungover: There's a storm blowing in later today, so I am hoping to get a nice stroll in before that happens.

I'm making another Weight Watchers recipe tonight--lemon chicken and broccoli. I'll either serve it with brown rice or angel hair.

Here is another carb heavy breakfast. Pecan/honey waffles, French toast, and eggs and bacon for some protein. I don't think carbs count in Savannah. This is at a place called Clary's Cafe and the sign on the wall said this place was established in 1903, so I guess they know what they are doing by now.

Is this salmon and mashed potatoes?

It is marinated, grilled chicken chopped into chunks and served on mashed potatoes (or rice) and topped with two different kinds of Zunzi's sauce and dressing. The sauce is very flavorful. This typically comes with diced, smoked sausage too, but my wife asked them to leave out the sausage this time as it sometimes elevates her blood pressure.
Zunzi's is a little hole in the wall take-out place with no inside dining, and there is just about always a line.
