working out for Disney

Hello-

I've been home since Wed. I've been doing treadmill and kettle bell workouts this week.

My brother did come up. He brought his dogs and stayed a couple of days, JIC the hurricane made a last minute turn. He was displaced for a few months and living in a hotel when Ian hit. We were going to go out to eat at this Spanish-Cuban restaurant in Celebration, but his dogs started barking, so he and I went there to order carry outs while his GF stayed with the dogs. We walked around Celebration while waiting for our food to be prepared. It's very cute, but it's a little too Stepford for me.

The hotel grew on me as I was there. I would not stay there for a week-long vacation (because I prefer the S/D/SR), but for a long weekend, I would. It's clean and comfortable. It's also reasonably priced for LBV. It's very quiet, too. I had the pool to myself one afternoon. I saw lots of people staying there for conferences. I'd say it's good for adults, but you absolutely could bring kids there--our room had a bunk bed in it. The pool is basic, which works for me. There is shuttle service to the parks and you can get in 30 min before the parks open, like Disney resorts. I enjoyed the stroll to DS. I had Salt and Straw for breakfast one day, then I had a margarita at Dockside Margarita for lunch--because, why not? 😂

I took a photo of the view out of my patio door for my brother to show him where we were staying.

I know it looks like a motel, but it's not. All rooms have interior hallways and there is a tower. I was hoping for one of the ground level rooms, since they have a lanai. My brother ended up getting one when he checked in. lol

Which hotel was this? Also, Salt and Straw for breakfast!?!? I approve 100%! ;) 😁

It was formerly The B Resort, but they recently did a rebranding to Renaissance. They are still in the last stages of renovations. It gets slammed online for not being "luxurious" enough. It was below 150/nt. I am not expecting "luxurious" at that price point. lol Everyone who worked here was very nice and when I asked where the gym was located, the woman at the front desk offered to take me to it.

I had a really good beef brisket sandwich at their restaurant, American Kitchen. It had pimento cheese and Fresno pepper jam on it. It was on a brioche bun. My brother's GF had the pulled pork and she said it was really good. We got a voucher for $15 off of food and beverages and another was for a free appetizer at dinner when we checked in.

If you decide to check it out, I'd recommend going through Marriott. They typically have the best prices. Plus, if something goes wrong, they can do more to help you. My brother originally planned to stay only one night, but after he got there, he booked a couple more because of Helene. They let him book at the same rate as his first night. They told him they were able to do because he booked directly through Marriott. My brother was able to get his room for $97 and it was nicer than ours. lol

Hello-

Checking in with kettlebell workouts--both yesterday and today.

I have a bunch of bananas that are just perfect for banana bread. I am resisting the temptation to do that! I always tell myself I will have a slice, but it's always more than that--way more. I have such a sweet tooth today and my coffee with French vanilla coconut creamer in it is not taming it. lol

It's never just one slice of homemade banana bread. It's really hard to turn down just one slice. Sometimes I try to trick myself by having ONLY ONE slice; but then a few hours later . . . just another ONE slice. :hilarious:

If I could stop at 2 slices, I'd be happy. I usually eat a lot more and I think I am being clever by taking thin, slivers of banana bread. But, a bunch of 'slivers' end up being nearly half the loaf! 😂

Hello-

Checking with my workouts. Yesterday was a treadmill workout with hills and speed drills. Today, I did a 45 min kettle bell workout.

My husband brought me a slice of cake from this French bakery across the street from his office in Manhattan. It was chocolate cake that was filled and frosted with chocolate mousse. I am not the biggest fan of chocolate cake, but this was delicious. The mousse was so light and smooth and the cake wasn't overly sweet. I almost ate the entire slice and it was pretty large. I don't even want to know how much it was. 😂 There is a Bon Vivant patisserie across the street from my husband's apartment in Jersey City. They make petits fours and petits cakes. I wanted to get some petit fours, so I went on line to check out the offerings. It was $18 for 4 petits fours; $42 for 9. 😵 I did not go. I am sure they are delectable, but I can't bring myself to spend $18 on tiny 1-2 inch squares of cake. Maybe I'll do it for my birthday or something. This is why I taught myself to make macarons. I love them, but they are kind of expensive. Plus, I experiment with different flavors. 😋

It's definitely that time of year for pumpkin bread. Trader Joe's has pumpkin ice cream. My son always buys it when it's in season. It's so good.

Yum! I bet that pumpkin ice cream would be good. I was planning to go to a TJ's this weekend so maybe I'll have to bring the freezer bag so I can get ice cream, it would melt during the 45 minute drive back to my house otherwise.

Just checking in. I had been doing really well with workouts, but something happened...I can't even remember what...and I took a break. I'm still on that break.
  • Part of it is my ankle. The good news is that it's fully healed over. There's a scar, which was anticipated, but the hydrocolloid ban-aids and moisturizing has kept it in check. Unfortunately, it's still too painful to wear shoes with a back. I'm not sure if it's just that the scar is still tender or if there's nerve damage.
  • Work has been horrifically busy. I worked over 11 hours yesterday and was back on at 6am today since I can't work late today and won't be home over the weekend. Yeah...I need to find the energy to drive about 560 miles tonight. It's been like this for weeks. I am beyond drained and incredibly stressed.
  • While David and I are taking turns with a lot of Sam's softball stuff, it's still a lot. We haven't even started fall tournament play. It's all been scrimmages, practices and college camps. Her Tuesday practice is only 5 minutes away, but hitting on Mondays is about an hour drive, and Wednesday practices (in traffic) are around 75-90 minutes going (45 min coming home). There's not a ton of extra right now with school, except for Fridays...6am weights = be at school by 5:45. The camp and tournament travel has/will be a mix of flying and driving. Still, she also had homecoming in all of this, we're trying to pull all of her NHS stuff together, and we're about a month out from her driving exam. So, getting in that work as well.
    • Speaking of, I'm kind of anxious about the one I'm flying to in November. I think the fields are in Clearwater, our required lodging is in St. Pete, and because of best air pricing, the last night hotel I now need is going to be near the airport right on the water. I'm hoping enough will be OK by then with Helene damage.
  • Kendall travel...while not as plentiful, has also been in the mix. We saw her for family weekend about 3 weeks ago. She's part of my excess driving this weekend. David suggested we get her since Sam's camp is "only" 2 hours away. So, I'm driving up to Norman tonight after checking into our hotel in Denton. What's going to add to my Kendall driving is voting. We registered her to vote before she left for school and applied for her absentee ballot over family weekend. We followed the instructions online to a T, but her application was rejected. It looks like they changed their policy for application delivery method after submission. There was a post on one of my OU groups about a bunch of TX kids having their apps rejected. Some were like K where the tracking website showed no record of the app and were eventually sent a formal rejection in the mail. Others got nothing but can see their rejection online. Mail delivery has been spotty at school and in previous elections, TX has been shamefully horrible about sending absentee ballots less than a week before an election. I was already looking to see what to do to cancel an absentee request, so I guess in some ways it's good that it was rejected. So, I'm going to drive up during early voting and get K and one of her roommates to bring them home to vote in person. She supposedly has a ride for Thanksgiving, but I requested the time off just in case I need to drive to get her for that as well. Honestly, with all of the construction and regular accidents along the route due to the shifting narrow lanes, I'm really nervous about any of the kids making that drive. (pins and needles next weekend since they're planning to drive to Dallas)
    • We also had our first weather alert for K a couple of weeks ago. I'm really not ready for this. It scares me. I know the region is used to it and the university takes all kinds of actions to protect everyone, but it's still scary. Every time we drive up and back, we pass some F3 tornado damage at two different spots. It's pretty sobering to see it in person. We went to the movies while we were up there, and we just happened to be around for weekly siren testing. Shortly after that, I learned that the theater we were in survived an F5 back in 2013. That just triggered all kinds of stuff. The storm the other week had tennis ball sized hail but ended up to the northwest of the campus. A friend with a kid at school in KS just warned me to brace for a ton of warnings and suggested K and her friends make a snack schedule for storm shelter time.
  • Voodoo has also had some drama. I was upstairs working late on a Saturday night when Sam and David started yelling at me to come down. I'll spare you the details, but she was bleeding and swollen. So, we made a trip to the emergency vet. She's OK, but we didn't get home until the middle of the night, she had to spend a few extra hours there, I had several weeks of care to nurse her back to health. She came home with a "cone of shame," which I swapped out for a donut of shame.

@Sans Souci LOVE your costume! I have the same Small World LSS Kasey. I was such a huge fan of all of the Mary Blair concept art print bags in that collection.

Sounds busy!! I've been working way more than my contract is for, too. I'm supposed to be doing 20 hours a week, and it's flexible..like one week I could work 30 hours and another week 10, but we have one person out on medical leave, so we all have to cover her hours between us, and I've been working 32 hours a week for several weeks. We did get permission to hire someone at least temporarily so we can use time off to work off some of the extra hours we've been building up, but we have to find someone and then get them trained before that happens, so I'm still scheduled for 32 hours a week for now. Between that and all the household chores being on me, not much is getting done around the house.

That's so strange about K being rejected for absentee voting!! What did they change? I got my absentee ballot a couple of weeks ago, but it's so daunting. Like, the presidential election is easy, but there are all kinds of local offices and things that you know nothing about any of the candidates. Like it asks if a specific justice should retain their office, but I can't find anything about their voting records or their stances on issues. How do I know whether I think they are doing a good job if I can't find anything about what they've done in their capacity as elected officials? There was one website....votesmart or something, where you can type in a politician's name, and it will give you their bio and their voting record, etc, IF they've filled it in. But I think a lot of Wyoming politicians don't consider it worth their time to fill it in, and I think most people probably vote along party lines rather than voting based on specific issues. I know when I was in high school, I had no idea which stances were leaning left or right. I knew what my mom voted, but not why. It wasn't until I moved here that I got more interested in the issues and actually learned what different parties stand for and what the arguments for and against certain issues were. But living over here, I'm obviously not getting news about candidates for the school board or about Wyoming legislative representatives. It makes it hard to make an informed choice!!

How's Voodoo now? I hope she's ok! Did she get attacked by an animal or something?

I thought you might have been slightly less busy with K at school! I guess not. :(

Wow, I admire you for bringing K and her roommate back to vote in early voting. I'd be curious to know if the first names of these people whose applications for absentee voting are being rejected are female. Even if it is not, it still sounds like it could possibly be voter suppression. You could always report it to the DoJ's civil rights section, if you suspect that is the issue. Young people are often a target of voter suppression.

I hope Voodoo is on the mend soon. I have seen a cone of shame that was actually a daisy of shame. It was cute. lol

I bought that LSS bag so long ago. I like it for trips where I just want to carry the basics and not have one shoulder taking all the weight. It's good for touring around cities when all you need to carry is a wallet and phone. It's great for WDW, of course.

I returned my ballot yesterday in one of the ballot boxes scattered around my county. There were a few people running for 3 spots on the school board. There is a website where they collate all of the candidates. Some candidates filled out their templates and quite a few didn't. I can't take someone seriously if they can't be bothered to share their platform. Don't make me look all over the internet to learn what your platform is. So I voted for three people who had their platform right there.

Hello-

I've been doing 45 min of kettlebell workouts. They've been pretty sweaty and challenging for me.

I was going to go watch The Substance this weekend, because I thought it was supposed to be satire. I am glad I looked before I leaped. It is satire, but it's also body horror. Nope. I don't do body horror. I'd read reviews about "tsunamis of blood" and pulling lose teeth out of one's head and lose nails out of one's nail beds. Nope, nope, nope. I watched previews of it on YouTube and there are tight shots of Dennis Quaid sloppily shoving shrimp in his mouth and chewing with his mouth open...🤮 It sounds like it's gross for the sake of being gross, but it gets good reviews, though. Maybe I am just being a wimp. lol
