Words of Inspiration

Time to get semi metaphysical here. Maybe some can tell, but I have sort of an zen / power of the mind / inner strength / calmness outlook on life.

So...

Putting together two things. One, which is one of my beliefs - "Doubt is fear of what you can become"

and one of my favorite quotes (or sayings) from Frank Herbert's Dune series, the Bene Gessert Litany Against Fear

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Just the sort of stuff I like :) (and people wonder why I run without music, it's so my mind can run with me :D)

This one is sooo true. But you have to learn it for yourself in order to believe it.

In the spirit of just having returned yesterday from an African safari and seen this firsthand, I'll share one of my favorite running quotes:
“Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle... when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.”

Yup..been my sig for awhile now.....except it usually applies at late night for me, as I usually can't run until after i get done with work.

Edit: wow....3,000th post....I think i set the record for slowest climb to that point. :)

I needed this quote today to get through my run.

"You're bound to have days when everything seems sluggish and ungainly and you'd just as soon not be training at all. That's a good time to persist."-James Fixx

Those are the days that if I go out and run anyway, not shave any distance off what I planned to do, really push mentally and finish, I feel the best about myself and smile with much pride.

:D

Internally, I give myself a huge high five!

With less than 3 weeks to go....

"You can't cram for the final. By that, I mean you're not going to get any fitter during the last couples of weeks before the race. So don't try cramming any last minute long runs or extra training. The best thing you can do for your body is rest."-Gordon Bakoulis Bloch

That is why I stick to the schedule. I learned this from my studies in college. All the stuff I stayed up to cram in, I forgot by the morning exam and I was super tired.

I have to admit, I'm not sticking to my training schedule as diligently as I did for my 1st disney race (The Princess 1/2 Marathon in March). I think I pushed myself before the race and ended up sick the day of the race, as well as some bad knee pain. I was just so worried I wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace requirement.

This time I training at an easy pace. I know what to expect. I really want to enjoy the experience and I'm not worried about my time. I still run 4-5 times a week and do cross training on the other days, but I'm not so worried if my schedule says to run 7 miles and I only do 5. Either way I know I'll make it to the finish line.

Quote of the day: In the spirit of "why do you run?"... I have this one.

When we got home from that race that night, Rick wrote on the computer, 'Dad, when I run it feels like my disability disappears.' So, that was a very powerful message to me.

My words of inspiration today were simple:

"It's a girl"

So....maybe i didn't go out and run right after I heard these words, but reminded me why I run....to be healthy and watch my girls grow up.

 congrats. My daughter is 2 and when Sam picks her up from school and she asks if she wants to go see daddy, she says he isnt home, he is running.

Luckily, I usually get back about 5 minutes after they get home. :D I walk in all sweaty and she is grossed out and wont give me a hug till i towel off. LOL

Here's today's quote:

"A runner is a miser, spending the pennies of his energy with great stinginess, constantly wanting to know how much he has spent and how much longer he will be expected to pay. He wants to be broke at precisely the moment he no longer needs his coin."

Yes congrats Fievel!

And when I get home from a run both my kids run around yelling "Mommy stinks! Mommy stinks!" LOL. Forget toweling off - they won't come near me until I shower! LOL.
