Hey guys,
Well last night we discovered the bargainous deals for OKW with free dining!!! So.... we booked!!!!! We go for 14 nights from May 19th 2011 and are so excited. We have only ever stayed on property once in a Pop Century!!! So this will be a huge experience for us - and one we could never ordinarily afford!

Anyway I have a few questions:

A) Do the parks close early at this time of year (may 19th - June 2nd)??

B) If the parks do close early - will EMH help to extend them to reasonable times?

C) Is OKW a nice resort? What are the major differences (except the room) between staying in Pop Century & staying in OKW? (ie are there any cool benefits?)

D) Can we walk to Typhoon Lagoon from OKW?

E) Will we get good weather at this time of the year?

F) Do you have any tips for the dining plan?? We have never used it before...

Thanks so much - I am very excited to get any replies :)

We visited the WDW twice during this time frame, (late May/early June). This is regular season for Disney with many schools in the south getting out for the summer so the parks have “normal” operating hours. You would have to check the Disney website for EMH and operating hours.
Never stayed at OKW but “I’m pretty sure you cannot walk from there to Typhoon Lagoon, maybe someone else can confirm or deign this for us.
The Weather was excellent, warm compared to our home in New England, I believe we had a rain shower most afternoons.
For the dinning plan look at the menus here and at Allearsnet and deicide where you want to eat. Then book at the 180 day mark to ensure you get your choices. We are a family of 3 and usually stay for 6 night/7 days so we each get to pick 2 dining locations.
Enjoy!

The parks run on normal operating hours this time of year. Usually until 8pm at MK, 9pm Future World, 7pm World Showcase, HS maybe until about 8pm and AK until 5pm. It sometimes varies and usually on a Friday or Saturday night they are open later. If the park has EMH during that time they usually are open 3 hours after the time it closes to the public. I have never stayed at OKW, but I hear the rooms are pretty big. It is one of the older DVC resorts. I don't think there are any benefits from staying there as opposed to Pop. There will be a jacuzzi by the pool though! I know OKW is close to Typhoon Lagoon. I'm not sure if it's close enough to walk. Check it out when you get there. It will be nice weather, in the high 80s. It will most likely rain everyday, usually only for a little bit. Sometimes only for 10 minutes or so. The dining plan is great. Take a look at the restaurants on the website. Definitely write down some that you would like to try. Have everyone that's going take a look too. Definitely book 180 days in advance. This will ensure that you get what you want. You might have to change the dates or times though. For the dining plan, you get 1 snack, 1 counter service and 1 table service per person per night of your stay. Make sure that you know if some restaurants take 2 table services. this way you can plan accordingly. If you have any other questions, I will be glad to help!!!

we went this year (2010) this week, and booked next year 2011 same week may-june for free dining.

fyi, this seems to always coincide with orlando gay days. dont know if that is on purpose or not, but i think crowd levels may be down because of that. my kids 8 and 4 noticed nothing, and we went to MK on the designated day.

if that would even be a concern for anyone, it was a wonderful disney trip as usual at this time, and the weather was perfect. it did not rain once for the 8 days and was warm enough we could enjoy swimming and water parks, without being unbearable as some summer trips we have taken.

We have been there during the time of year and love it, we find its not to hot and its not to horribly packed-we usually go July/August...

A few things that may help answer a few things.

1. No I wouldn't try to walk from OKW to Taphoon Lagoon...
2. Remember in regards to the differences, OKW is a deluxe resort, the amenities will be a little different than normal.
3. The weather again is nice, but can still be quite warm/hot but nowhere near where the middle of the summer is.
4. The PP is right, Gay Day usually falls around this time of year. It didn't bother us any and we found little impact on things but just good to know.
5. As for Dining Plan-you will hear great things and bad things about it there always seem those that love the plan and those that don't. My advice is start looking into places you want to have meals at, and on you 180 day mark call/book online into the more popular places. Believe it or not things get booked rather quickly.
6. As for hours we never found that the parks closed to early. I know the calender of hours when posted said different times than when we did get there those, so I think they tend to change the hours from time to time.

Have an incredible trip.

Remember that resort guests can book ADR's 180+10 (190) days out, so you have an extra advantage of those not staying on property. I think this will put you some time in November, so just have a plan by then and make all of your ADR's at that 190 day mark.

Its so far out you should be fine.

D) Can we walk to Typhoon Lagoon from OKW?
D) No, you get the downtown bus
E) Will we get good weather at this time of the year?
E) Should be perfectin mid 80's with an afternoon shower possible
F) Do you have any tips for the dining plan?? We have never used it before...
F) Its great we had the free dining this year and i assume you will have it! ALOT of food and saves us a bundle! If you have ALOT of snack credits left near the end make sure to use them and get snacks to bring home

Holy Cow 14 days is a long trip!! Congrats! We went in May last year and loved it!!! Definitely don't miss the water parks. Weather is awesome for water parks that time of year. I can't really answer your other questions except that I'm pretty sure the park hours are pretty close to normal if not normal.

The end of May is our favorite time to go. We'll be there roughly the same time. OKW is nice. Be forewarned, unless you're staying close to the Hospitality House, the walk can be long to the main pool and restaurant etc. We stayed in a studio in building 11 so it was fine.
