WL rooms with bunk beds?

Just reserved my room at the WL:sohappy: . I requested a room with bunk beds, (my 5 year old DD and 3 year old DS can't share a bed well). Has anyone ever had a problem not getting a room they requested.

Was thinking about getting a cabin at Fort Wilderness to ensure the separate beds, but for two nights we wouldn't use the kitchen and all the extras that we would use for a longer stay.

Thanks for any advice.

91 days and counting down....:)

Our first trip back to the world in 2001 after a 15 year hiatus, we didn't request a room at WL but got upgraded to a woods view. Our second trip in 2003 we requested woods view but were upgraded to courtyard. The last trip in 2004 we requested a woods view and got woods view. We plan on going next year and will be making out ressies soon and will be requesting a woods view again. Disney tries to honour all requests. Just double check at checkin that you are getting a room with bunkbeds. If not just ask if it's possible. I'm sure the CMs will do everything they can to get you a room with bunkbeds.

When we were at the WL in November of 2004 we requested a Bunk Bed when we reserved our Courtyard View room and upon check in we verified the request was on record but we did not get a bunk bed. After calling the front desk we were told that they didn't have any more available.

Do remember bunks beds are a request only and cannot be guaranteed. Recently the bedding options have changed at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. The only current room catagories that offer bunk beds are: Woods View or Courtyard View rooms. If you are booked in any other room catagory, your request cannot be honored.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Hey JP~

I have read conflicting information regarding the size of the bunk beds at WL. Some reports state that the WL bunk beds seem smaller than a standard twin bed (in length), perhaps due to the wood frame. I've also read that the bunk beds are a standard twin size.

I have 2 tall sons who would prefer bunk beds over sharing a queen bed, but I am concerned that our older son, at 6' 2" would be cramped. We are staying 6 nights, so I want them both to be comfortable.

I have booked a Woods View room, so this is an option, but I have not requested bunk beds (yet). As always, your advice would be greatly appreciated!

While on this topic - I really don't want a bunk bed since I have two little kids. Will they see in my reservation the ages of my children so that I don't end up with bunk beds?

Well........

It depends on what you request, if yo request a location you may only get rather close to where you want to be. But normally with your situation, you get it.

The Bunk Beds at Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness Cabins, and Animal Kingdom Lodge are all about the same size. Twin bed size: 39" wide x 75" long

The rooms that feature bunk beds or king beds are rarely assigned unless specifically requested.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Animal Kingdom bunkbeds

I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in late June. At check in we were asked if we wanted bunk beds. (Our kids are 11 and 6.)

I believe there was either a sign on the bunk beds or we were told by one of the CMs that children under a certain age (it may have been 6?) should not use the upper bunk. Luckily our six year daughter liked the idea of sleeping in a "cave" and didn't want the top bunk anyway.

I think then that Disney can't insist that someone with young children sleep in a bunk bed room.

Also, the top bunk has rails that are locked with a key by housekeeping. You can't put the rails down yourself. I would think that a large size adult would have a hard time climbing up the ladder and squeezing in the opening at the end of the bed. Someone wrote that they wanted to have someone 6'2' sleep in the bunk bed; that would seem very uncomfortable if that person had to use the top bunk.

Of course these are the bunks at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in a Savanna room. Perhaps the bunks are different at different resorts. I would call if you're depending on a tall person using the bunks.

Thanks, JP. I really appreciate your help. This is our first stay at the WL, and likely our last trip as a family, as our oldest son will be 20 soon, and wanting to go places with his friends, so I want this trip to be our most magical ever.

I have a lot of things booked, CP, MVMCP, HDDR, Fantasmic pkg, so we will be on the go and I want my boys to be able to get a good nights sleep.

If anyone else has booked a bunk bed room, I'd like to hear your thoughts on their size. Do the wood frames make them seem shorter? This pic from AllEars makes the bunk beds look tiny. Maybe it's the young boy in the photo that suggests a smaller size?

We had a bunk bed room at AKL one trip. I will warn you that there isn't a lot of headroom in either bunk; fortunately we are a "short" family...so far. :animwink: I think someone 6'2" might have a problem sitting up in bed.

Would it be possible for someone to sleep on an air mattress? Because of the bunks, you actually have a little more floor space. (Twin + Queen vs 2 Queens)

Thanks, The Mom. An air matteress might work. Does WL have roll away beds and is there an extra charge for them? I'm already paying $25/night extra for a 3rd adult in the room.

The Wilderness Lodge does not offer roll-a-way beds. The size and layout of the room does not allow adequate space for a rollaway bed or for an air mattress.

Hey JP (or anyone who might know),

In staying at AKL and the Beach Club I seem to remember there being a small bench/bed or a daybed of some sort. Something for someone to sleep on besides the two beds in the room. Do these exist at WL?

I ask because we had requested bunk beds, but from the information you stated above (about bunks only being available for certain views) I fear our request might not be possible. If this happens I am wondering if there will still be an extra place for sleeping. Any info would help. Thanks :-)

Thanks again, JP. I guess my two teen-age sons are going to have to get over themselves and share a queen size bed. They have a system for this - one rolls up in the sheet & blanket and the other takes the bedspread. Of course, after the talk about how infrequently these items are laundered, this option has less appeal than before (which is why I've been asking so many questions about sleeping options). Oh well, they are both Boy Scouts and have slept in some unsanitary conditions many times before when camping. I'm sure a less-than-fresh bedspread and blanket at Disney won't do them harm.

Dirty bedspread

You don't have to one of your sons use the bedspread. Just call housekeeping for some extra blankets. There should be no problem in bringing you extras and the new ones should be fresh from the laundry.
