Wishing It Was Spring Already with Magic Friends

10 years, 11 mos, 3 days, 20 minutes, 12 seconds...not that I'm counting. :lookaroun

Seriously though, I do love it...I spent three years prior to that trying to start a family and we had some tough times for a while. In fact to be perfectly honest, the only time I have worked outside of the home was one tax season. There are things I wish I had done differently early on in our marriage, but you can't turn back time.

Why dost thou asketh? (KJV :animwink: )
Well... DH and I are thinking about starting a family, yada yada...:lookaroun And, with his job, it's almost expected of me to be a stay-at-home mom. And, honestly, I would LOVE to do it. But I just don't know how we would do it with just one salary (and that of a pastor no less...) I've just been thinking about that recently.

Joe, how I envy you! I wish I could go to Aruba to escape this horrid weather.

Hi Jenn, Kat, Jo, and Rick!

Want to sneak into his luggage?:lookaroun

Jo, I've always thought LTT sounded so... unexciting. The things they serve there, it seems we have all the time at home (and you know there's nothing like a good home cooked meal!) I've never been in my adult life because of that... what makes it so good?

Seriously, I love LTT. I first ate there back on my first CP (my good friend introduced me to it) and now I have to eat there every trip.

We toyed with idea of a sit down at Tusker in June, but as we are only going to be at AK one day, we didn't want to take extra time at a sit-down. We'll probably go to Pizzafari instead.

That's fine Jenny. Pizzafari is good too.

We did the 1900 park fare and it was really cool, just noisy and with this group, probably not the best idea. her Dad likes quiet.
That's cool!

Well, that pretty much rules out most character meals, then.

ahh... well, the drive-in place might be neat. I think 1900 Park Fare may have a meal without characters...? I could be wrong though... I heard Cape May's is good too. I really liked the nearby Boardwalk atmosphere too.
For a character dining experience, I remember The Land restaurant being pretty nice though. People really didn't get up and intrude on other people's meeting of the characters. And I think the food was pretty good.

That's a thought - Garden Grill is a character meal, but its setup is pretty cool. We liked the food also. Another possibility might be the Coral Reef? Although it's pretty pricey unless you're on the dining plan. I can't comment for sure there - haven't tried it yet.

We do it. I'm not a pastor but I doubt I make much more if any than D.

...and... I've worked full time since I graduated college. And especially with my job now... it's a pretty good, respectable job. I'd even venture to say I would be considered a "career woman". :dazzle: I just don't know what it would be like to leave the work force one day...

I'm being raw here... totally open... I don't know why. I do trust you guys not to judge me. It's just been on my mind...

Hmmm...well this is JMO, but what you really need to consider is living on one income vs. living on two incomes + paying for child care. Even if you work only part-time, are you working to get your family ahead or to pay the babysitter?
I'm not saying you working would be wrong - every couple needs to figure that out for yourselves. Just remember those first few years your child is home with you go all too fast. And it would have killed me if someone else had witnessed my kids' first rollover, or smile, or first step. That's me. And now with a special needs' child, me working outside the home isn't really an option right now. Perhaps if he continues to improve....

It's an honest concern Kat - and to be perfectly frank, there are a LOT of mind-numbing days where you would just do about anything to talk with another adult . But there are also lots of snuggling and reading stories and watching your kids' faces light up when they see their first butterfly. The bad days always pass.

I would hate to miss those things too... But I wouldn't know what to do once our children are in school full-time. Knowing me, I'd want to go back to work. But I don't have a career in which I can just take a few years off and come back where I left off.

I guess I'm rambling... but I love and really respect you guys with everything, so I felt comfortable sharing...

Well Being a man, I can't really offer you insite in it, except to say my wife was working and then had kids and no longer WANTS to work. They are her passion now.

But it's possible another path may open up for you - you do publicity for a hospital, right? So maybe you can take your skills and do promotional writing for your kids' school...or perhaps do a desktop publishing sort of thing out of your home for local businesses. The path may change, but your mind can still be occupied. I know how useful I have felt being involved with the PTG. Granted things have been tenser lately because of all the levy nonsense, but I do feel like I'm doing a decent job with it.

I guess I'm rambling too....:o My overall point is that there are always options.

Talk with another adult? Then why in the heck do you come here?????:lol:

I didn't even think of that. :hammer: Very good point.

I guess there's no use in worrying about what we'll do until the time comes. And by then DH might be making more, etc. (right now, I'm the "bread winner.")

Well, off to class. Hopefully I will be on tonight, but most likely not.

Also, I won't be on tomorrow (at least not until after 8pm). I have the CP presentations to attend. Please pray that it won't rain.

Bye!
