This guy doesn't look like an accent intellectual, but he makes some good points.
Personally, I don't think I have any of the things he mentioned (I'm such a Philly sell-out), but about 3 minutes in is SOOO true.
Dot, you know what I mean.
(PS: Do you notice that the things he mentions seem much more prevalent in South Philly/People from South Philly?)
I really shouldn't have read this comic. Now instead of going to Disney all happy, I'm depressed.![]()
 We've thought about it. Problem is that DF has never been on one before and he doesn't want to risk spending our honeymoon seasick.Hello all...

I think he went for some of the more obvious things, but I just saw an article about UPenn's research center on accents. (I forget where that was, in a link from that video maybe? I'll check.) There are a few more subtle pronunciation differences that I've never noticed before.I don't think the guy had much of a Philly accent, but yes he raised some good points. The "water" thing, most definitely...That's how I say it! I'm not really aware of the dark "L", but I have always hated the "S H" conversion. I never understood that one.
South Philly has its own exaggerated version of Philly-speak. It sounds "put-on" and is similar to NY accents...Brooklyn in particular.
I can usually pick up a true Philly accent, but it's hard to explain what it sounds like. There's a sort of "flattening" of vowel sounds. Maybe "flattening" is not the best description, but I don't know how else to put it. It's pretty distinct to the area, though.

This one is so much better:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM
On the topic of accents...I love this accent!
And the video is pretty funny, too.
By the time it gets to California, people say, "Come ahn," and "I ______ a cold."
