Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

Yeah, I still don't see what there is about the movie that new viewers (who presumably aren't aware of how badly the film performed in theatrical release) are going to latch onto. I particularly wonder how well people are going to understand the storyline - i.e. how giving up the wishes works - given that even professional critics had trouble parsing it.
Why would they struggle to understand the storyline any more than initial audiences did? (I’m among those who got it just fine.)

I'm thinking about all the little questions me, a lot of critics, and casual viewers raised like "Why is Asha shocked that not all wishes will eventually be granted?" "Why didn't Sabino just play music if that was his heart's desire?" "Why do most people desire things they could easily do under their own power?" "What are Star's powers exactly - why don't they just free the wishes from the tower right away if they're so incredibly powerful?" "Why doesn't Magnifico hunt down Asha immediately, since she's the only person with any reason to challenge him?" "Why does Magnifico just keep the wishes he won't grant instead of destroying them immediately, if he didn't know he could use them as a power source?" "If you are a star and can wish upon yourself, why doesn't everyone just instantly grant their own wishes once they get them back?" "Why does Star give Asha the repaired wand when nobody needs a fairy godmother?" Stuff like that.

I haven't seen it but I'm sure I'll be seeing it in a couple of days on Disney plus. Haven't had time to open my "art" book either.. Oh well...

Is the Wish princess still appearing in the Parks?

Or did she already go the way of other Beloved CharactersTM like Kenai, Maggie and Abby Mallard?

The Asha meet-and-greet is still available at Epcot at least (and probably will last through the spring there since the Flower and Garden Festival display at the front of the park features Wish topiaries).

I think we'll know by the end of the month whether the movie has received a second wind on streaming. Disney+ has no other movies, old or new, arriving this month save for two Disneynature documentaries on Earth Day, so Wish is the only title that will be hyped up, and there are kids are on spring break this week (though I think most of them had their breaks last week; I still think it's weird they didn't try an Easter holiday tie-in).

Wouldn't 'Wish' need a first wind? :cautious:

A dud is a dud. Streaming isn't going to suddenly make it a money-maker, despite what many really, really want people to believe.

Glad the Japanese dub of the movie is available to view on Disney+. The voice acting and singing is much better in the Japanese version.

US Walmart has sold out of the Wish 4K Steelbook.
This is less surprising when I found out that the Walmart steelbook was the only 4K Ultra HD physical release Disney did anywhere, and was region-free (so they were counting in the international orders). Everywhere else the best that can be had is the Blu-Ray.

How perfect this hit D+ the same day the status quo wins, I’m watching it for the first time and it highlights everything I find wrong with current Disney, it looks cheap, the songs remind me of Mickeys Mix Magic (which is not a good thing), and the story feels rushed and not thoroughly thought out.

At least it’s better than Lightyear… once again I find myself glad I waited to watch it for free on D+ though, they haven’t released anything in the last year that makes me wish (hehe) I’d seen it in the theater.

I really liked Eight Below, but that was many a year ago...

Decided to rewatch the movie in Japanese and the voice actors really carried this movie alongside the lyric changes to some of the songs.

Well, it doesn't look like it's trending. I guess it's time to throw in the towel and accept that WIsh will be a forgotten Disney movie and it totally destroyed Disney's 100 anniversary forever! 🥺 I hope you haters are happy!
Wish didn't destroy anything let alone the 100th anniversary. Not all movies have relevance long term and it remains to be seen if Wish will or not.

Its been less than 24 hours since its release on D+. While I don't know what will happen it still is possible for it to find an audience in the future.

Sorry. I don't know what came over me.
I know you wanted Wish to be successful, the next Frozen or whatever. It just wasn't in the cards for this movie at this time. Time marches on and the next Disney movie will be around the corner soon enough with Inside Out 2 and Moana 2. We'll have to hope for the best and see how those turn out.
