Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

Looks like Wish will be in direct competition with Illumination's Migration. Can we be seeing round two of Strange World vs Minions The Rise of Gru?

Well wouldn’t it be Strange World vs Puss in Boots as that is what occurred last year?

Either way its hard to tell, based on this Im not sure how confident they are with Migration given this felt like a sizzle reel for Illumination sans Hop and Lorax.

I’m vowing for not quite as Wish and Migration are both original films not sequels nor spinoffs that would boost interest automatically. I’d imagine Migration has a harder hurdle to overcome compared to Wish - easier to sell princesses vs the migration of ducks to families.

Good points on that. Neither really have a franchise. They are both original. Wish has the princess/2D hard drawn look going for it. I guess it will be a matter on how much they make verses their budgets.

It will be safe. It is just which one comes up on top financially.
Regardless, I'm certain that "Wish" will have more artistic merit. The artwork leaked at D23 looked pretty impressive.

I also think the financial performance of Wish might hinge on whether Elemental helps restore or further harms the Disney/Pixar animation brands.

I think Elemental will do fine if they don't instantly pull it to Disney+. We have nothing to go on so far for Wish.
Even if Elemental flops, I think Disney should wait a good 5-6 months to put it on Disney Plus. You want to destroy the expectation that people only have to wait 30-45 days for something to be made available "for free" on Disney Plus.

Even though Strange World was a flop I think it was a bad move to send it to Disney Plus as it makes it now seem like a tradition for Disney to give a movie a theatrical release on Thanksgiving with a December Disney Plus release. Honestly, I think Earth Day (April 2023) would have been a perfect day for the Strange World Disney Plus release date, considering it's strong environmental theme.

Yes. Elemental should be the “holiday” animated drop for Disney+

Maybe Elemental can be the movie Disney releases on Christmas Day? Then "Wish" could go on Disney Plus in May or June 2024.
This would be great…streaming and theatrical need to support each other…this would be best for both medias… IMO… what they have been doing has been working against both

Idk, this movie is supposed to be a really big deal, featuring a new princess, a new style of animation (for Disney at least) and honoring the company's 100 year legacy.
Yeah, but if you look up why Strange World went straight to Disney+ in Europe then this would possibly happen to Wish.

First off, look what I've found: But before you guys get excited, this doesn't mean will get to see a teaser trailer of Wish yet. Just wait until either next month or in June.

Nonsense. The pandemic era is over. No need to be doom and gloom person. Be optimistic. Trust me, I went there.

Was it the gay character?
It's a possible reason why Strange World flop, but I don't think we should go there right now.
