Winners say 'no thanks' sometimes

Some people may not like popcorn. I personally am not a huge fan of it myself, only time I eat it is occasionally when we go to a movie I'll steal some of my wifes.

But as far as people turning down dream fast passes, I could understand that, for the same reason as turning down the castle suite. If its their last day and they have to pack and be at the airport in a few hours, they may not have the time to use the FP, or as others said they may think there is a "catch" and don't want any part of it.

All in all it just goes to prove that YoaMD is not as successful as people would like to think, since many people don't understand what it is. They were gonna come anyway, they aren't there for the celebration.

I suppose the prizes are not transferrable. :-\

One trip we were in line for Peter Pan on our last day, and the ride broke down, so they gave us fast passes for later in the day. We just kept an eye out for a party of our size (or thereabouts) and spread the love :)

I would love to stay in the Castle for the night. But ISTCNavigator57 is right, you're not just spending the night, you're losing a whole day. I wonder if you could tell them... "I want to stay in the castle, but not do the parade and stuff."

And honestly, I've had dinner in the castle before. If that was the night I had reservations to eat in Epcot I don't know if I would do it. Do they help you get reservation for another night? I go to the world once every 2 years so that would really be something I would want to know.

Again, I would love to stay in the castle. I say yes if I was asked, but there are things to consider that I don't think Disney thought of when they came up with this. I think they just think we should all be greatful and not worry about what we want to do or have planed for the day.

this really goes against the Magic Your Way vacation. Disney has created a system where you can tailor your vacation precisely to what you want to do. What if you paid for the Water Parks and More option and today was your Blizzard Beach day but wanted to get in a few rides beforehand since it's February and still cold in the morning? Suddenly, you are expected to be in the parade and you just wasted that money on your tickets. Then there are the people with reservations that evening at, say, Le Cellier. They need to keep that reservation or they will not be eating at Le Cellier that vacation. Or maybe they had plans to go to Epcot that night for IllumiNations and evening EMHs and it was the only night of their vacation that they could fit that in--they saw Wishes the night before. It can really throw a bone in people's plans. It's not as simple as something like a Dream Fastpass, which the majority of guests can use unless they are literally just heading out to catch their Magical Express ride back to MCO. And, it is a good point that some people could actually be on a diet at WDW...or allergic to the food they give out for free. Many, many complications. I'm actually shocked that Jay Rasulo didn't have the foresight to expect this.

Honestly if my family and I were picked to spend a night in the castle, I think we'd probably turn it down too. I can't imagine my DD21 and DS17 really getting into that.

There are definitely people who'll think there's gotta be a catch and say no.

Last year, DS and I were at AK when Everest was in soft openings virtually full time, we rode 18 times over two days of visits to AK. I overheard a family telling their children that they couldn't go on it because it was "only for special guests". The kids seemed genuinely disappointed, so I ventured over to tell the parents that, in fact it was open to anybody in the park and DS and I had already ridden five times that morning. Then they asked "Well how much extra did that cost?" I said nothing, it was free and they refused to believe me.

This type of thing happens all the time... I have to correct countless guests a day who are convinced that Fastpass is only for certain "special people" or that there is some kind of an extra cost attatched.

An even better example is of the last time I tried to give away one of our Safari Magical Moments: (A backstage tour of the lion barn that gets you less than 10 feet away from two lions) I practically had to drag a group of people back there (very greatful afterward) ...But at least 5 parties turned me down--likely because they thought there was some kind of a catch.

If it is such a pain to stay in the castle, then I want everyone that complained to refuse it if they were to win. It would give me, and someone else that appreciated it far more than you would, a better chance of winning. I can't believe die-hard Disney fans would be the first to shoot down the experience. It just goes to show that there are some Disney fans out there that try to turn every positive into a negative, which is incredibly sad.

People are just saying that they could understand why some people might turn it down. I visit WDW enough that I would probably take the suite, especially if I could use my regal wave in the parade. But even I might have to say no if I had something important that I absolutely couldn't miss the next day. (can't think of anything off the top of my head, but who knows.) I also would rather eat at a different restaurant, but I would tolerate it now that I know I can have "adult" beverages in the suite. (Just not downstairs.)

I totally agree! Reading this thread, one would think that Disney is forcing people to do things that they don't want to do. People here are all like, "How dare they make me be in their parade and spend a free night in Cinderella's Castle?" If it's inconvienent for you when you win something, decline. I don't think you can blame Disney for trying to make people extra happy. If they offered me virtually anything I would take it with a smile. :king: And to people that think that Cindy's suite only appeals to families with daughters, I disagree. Both my DH2B and I would be super excited to stay there, for a night. And it's not really this big inconvience that people make it out to be. Disney takes care of moving all your stuff from your hotel AND you can wander through the parks at night, it's just that you are chaperoned.

Its unfortunate that legitimate conflicts can and have occured with many of the awards... including the one night stay in the castle.

I believe the phrase is... "To each, his own."

Personally, unless I was flying out that day, I'd rearrange whatever touring plans we had for the stay in the castle. Besides.. you only have to bring a day bag and one change of clothes. Which I believe Disney has built into their schedule of the afternoon's activities. Give you transportation and time to get your stuff from your hotel/resort. Yes I know you won't be able to tour the whole park and ride everything you planned on hitting that day... (except when you are personally escorted to the front of the line of all the attractions you wish to ride.) but the experience and memories from this prize are more unique than any dinner in Epcot or display of Illuminations/Fantasmic, IMO.
I'm sure if you ask nicely they can automatically reschedule you into another dinner reservation with no problems.

Being a fan is not just about experiencing and liking every single thing that is offered by Disney -- it is about enjoying yourself more than anything. Just because you see it as a positive doesn't mean it is for everyone else. Some people may like the overnight stay at the Castle but not care to be paraded around all day on a set schedule.

Try to be open minded about it. Do you like every single attraction in every park? No? Does that make you any less of a fan? Nope. Just my $.02

Hmmm..... I must have missed this revelation. now the offer is more appealing.

Adult beverage & royal whirlpool tub = A great evening!

No one is turning this around against Disney. I was giving reasons why people might say no. Humor me for one second and assume that not everyone who says "no" is an ignorant moron. Some people have reasons, and to suggest that a stay in a confined (though admittedly magical) suite is better than IllumiNations is purely an opinion. I would not value a night in the suite as being as good as seeing IllumiNations and spending 3 hours at Epcot after hours, but somehow in saying that, I am one of these people complaining about everything Disney does? You must not have read my other 6000 posts...outside of the YoaMD and current management at the parks, I'm generally supportive of Disney...as are most of the people here. There have been incredibly negative people in the past, but none among current posters come to mind.

The point is that some of the same people that thought this was a great idea when it was announced are now bashing it because it is too difficult to move a days worth of clothing to another room.

You are getting a VIP tour that very few will get. How could you say you are a big Disney fan and turn down the chance to do something that very few will even be offered?

You have to BYOB, but you can consume them in the suite. I always have some wine in my room, so it wouldn't be a problem. And most resorts sell wine & beer in the gift shop, so you could stop while making the transfer.
