Cool shirt Frank.

I bought the long sleeve and the short sleeve for this year's Princess 1/2 Marathon.
Went for a run this morning and wore the l/s. It is a nice quality shirt and a great souvenir of the accomplishment.

I hope they'll make shirts for the W&D race as well.

I posted a poll on the "General Discussion" thread to try to drum up some interest in "WDWMagic" starting a designated "Running @ Disney" thread. Please vote. Hopefully the moderators will see that there is enough interest to start one.

Thanks and Happy Easter.

I'm sure they will, Disney won't miss a chance to profit. My wife bought a "I did it" t-shirt after the princess race. I would of bought one if there was a men's shirt, but no luck.

I bought one too. I was worried I might jinx myself because I bought it at the expo BEFORE I actually completed the race.
I wore to the park when we went to the park after the race. I liked that it had the course on the back. But I can completely understand why you didn't purchase one (unless you can really rock bright pink-LOL)

Yeah, WL is on our radar, too, but I'm guessing we'll end up staying in the Tower over at the Contemporary. As much as I LOVE the Wilderness, we have a very hard time passing up a balcony overlooking the Magic Kingdom.

I'll make sure to crack the sliding glass door in our room when we come back after the race Saturday night so we can wake up to the sound of the train's whistle...nothing quite like that. We'll follow that up with a huge and heavy breakfast down at Chef Mickey's at about 10:30am. Gotta reload those carbs.
Our plans have changed. We have booked POFQ for that 4 day trip. Once our daughter gets a bit older, we will stay in higher themed resorts (ie:AK Lodge and WL) but for now, she really likes all the photos of the FQ side of PO.

I still havent booked the F&W Half. How can you find out if it is getting close to filling up?

I think Disney has made a mistake dropping the RFTT and ToT races for this half marathon. Not all runners want to run a half or full marathon.
I ran all three ToT races and combined that trip with a MNSSHP visit. They were great training runs for my first half and full. The new race holds no interest for me. I'm running the Goofy this year so I'll just train instead of going down to WDW in the fall.

And that was the logic behind them having the relay option. It allows for I believe a 6ish and 7ish mile run. You just need a friend, but that way they are effectively offering a 5k, a 6 mile, and a 13.1 mile race all at the same event. Pretty good selection.

They will most certainly have at least 1 shirt for sale. Every Disney race I have done has had at least 1 shirt, usually 2, a jacket, and a few other assorted trinkets.

I have no experience running, but I am really interested in this thread and future endurance events in WDW. I am admittedly really out of shape and I feel really motivated after reading everyone's plans and thoughts (and HollyBelle's report from the Princess Half Marathon...seems like so much fun!).

I've really need some motivation to get on track, and a concrete goal to focus on (other than the obvious goal of getting healthier). What greater goal for me than a WDW trip...I'm starting to look into training, tips, and other ways to get started right now. If anyone knows of some places online, or books, that might have some good tips for getting started, I'd really appreciate it. I'm really excited!

Hopefully next year (or maybe sooner for a 5k) I'll be joining you guys at one of these great events! :)

Glad to have you aboard. I have a subscription to Runners World magazine. I find it very informative and inspiring. I am a new runner and started with the same thing in mind as you, what better sport to take part in than one that includes spending time at Disney.

Also here is a link to Runner's World website, it's free and full of great stuff.

Keep checking out WDWMagic for more Disney Marathon stuff, we have our own "sub-forum" now.

As frank2271 said, runnersworld is a good resource. So is coolrunning.com and active.com. They both usually have links to a couch to 5k training plan on their front page. But the best piece of advice, just get out there and start moving. Starting to do daily walks, then switch to walk/run/walk/run etc days, then lengthen the time running and less walking, until one day you can run the whole darn thing. Thats the basis for most plans, something along that. And then once you can run it all, you slowly start adding a bit every now and then until you get to the distance you want.

Disney races make a great goal for a few reasons. Their pace requirement is very reasonable. They ensure road closures as long as you meet the pace. Many other local races wither have faster paces, or they open the roads back up at a certain point, even though they will let you keep running. Also Disney has lots of people and characters to cheer you on and help keep you motivated.

I will second the couch to 5K plan. It is well done, and it teaches you not to push yourself too far. Start slowly and avoid injury.

I also like The Non-Runners Marathon Trainer.

It's not going to make you a top performer. in fact you may have to walk a bit to finish. The point is, you WILL finish. That is what that training plan is for. A good place to start.

Ah, the kid gets to pick! Nice. Well, our young one is less than a year, so it's still our decision...for now. I'm sure we'll end up at the Contemporary. We have a really hard time passing it up.

We'll have a car, so we aren't worried about the transportation.

Welcome to those of you who are new to running in the World! Once you do your first race you'll be wondering what you've been waiting on all this time. It's such a blast, and the feeling after the finish line is as good as it gets, especially in this case, since it means your night has just begun.

Darn tooting. Crossed plenty of finish lines, and none seem as rewarding as crossing the ones at WDW. Perhaps if I ever do Boston.....

Speaking of Boston, is the WDW marathon a Boston Qualifier?

To my understanding, any certified marathon is eligible to be used as a qualifier. From their FAQ

How do I know if a marathon is run on a certified course?

The race director or race management can tell you if a course is certified.

For a complete list of certified courses in the U.S.A. check USA Track & Field. In Canada check Athletics Canada. Internationally, an extensive calendar of races is listed at the Association of International Marathon and Road Races website, with indication of courses that are not certified.

Are qualifying times based on "gun" or chip/net time?

From races that use the chip timing system, the chip/net time will be accepted for qualifying purposes.

They do have stipulations about dates and such, but pretty much if USATF says its a marathon, you can use it to qualify.
