Willy Wonka Dark ride?

I was wondering who owns the Willy Wonka property? Because, personally, I would love to see a boat-dark ride through his factory. It would also be a perfect addition to the Studios....

That sure would be great. The original was one of my favorite all time movies. A ride like that has limitless possibilities.

Not sure who owns it; however, there is an existing Willy Wonka Dark Ride. It is at Alton Towers Resort in the United Kingdom

A Wonka ride would be awesome!! I agree with Paul453 - the orginal was the best and I would love to see the ride based on that version of the movie.

Which version of the film? Wilder or Depp? I prefer the 1971 original from Paramount.

A subsequent release of the original was distributed by Warner Brothers, who have since handled all video releases, at least in the USA. They also produced the Burton/Depp version. So to answer the OP, I'd assume WB has rights to Wonka.

What I'd be curious to know is if the movie rights also include theme park rights, because while you'd think a ride would be based on one of the movies, perhaps an original ride based on the legend of Wonka independent of the movie's imagery is also possible if no one has exclusive theme park rights. Though I'd also figure the movie rights probably include all other forms of media outside of the original story/stories and in this case the line of Wonka candy.

If I am not mistaken I believe Warner Brothers has the rights to the movies and I thought the family has the rights for the ride.

Personally I prefer the original 1971 version with Gene Wilder. It IS a timeless movie that would make a timeless attraction.

Picture it, Disney Hollywood Studios 2012...

All the place is a buzz with the opening of a new area...Wonkaville! featuring a replica of the Original Candy Factory, and the factory gates as well. Several times a day, Wily Wonka would recreate the scene where he comes out of his private office and opens the gates to allow the lucky winners with the golden tickets in to the factory.
Heck, for that matter they could really put out golden tickets in various places for the public to find and be one of the lucky ones to enter the factory, but of course on a broader scale with a large number of guests being invited to enter the factory.
Once inside, the scenes from the movie would play out in Disney-style magic. The ending would be a similation of the elevator breaking through the roof which would open up for merchandising and a taste-test area of Wonka Candy!

On another idea, how awesome would it be to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as a dark ride at the studio? I think it would be a great addition. Maybe this is what the studios should be revamped with, the classic movies that we grew up with that remain timeless, even though they are not Disney related. But I am sure if DIsney would do anything like this, they would buy the rights to the movie, remake it and THEN put it in the parks as part of their Disney movie branding!
But either way, I think both movies could be incorporated into the stuidos theming as dark rides!

OOO, I just had another thought, they could even take the various Christmas movies, It A Wonderful Life, White Christmas, etc and add them to the holiday scenery of the studios! Maybe White Christmas could be the show scene from the movie, and recreate George's home and street as a ride-thru on the backlot streets and meet and greet with Clerance the guardian angel who could tell the story of the movie on the tram as it progressed thru the set!?

I better stop cause I could come up with tons of things that might work as new additions to parks!LOL:ROFLOL:

Ha! That's great. But as a kid that boat ride scene scared the heck out of me. It was really creepy. A dark ride like Pirates would be cool though, with a few dips and drops tossed into the scenery for fun. And they could make fastpasses that look like golden tickets. :D

If it ever did happen, it would more than likely end up as a scene in the great movie ride in DHS.

Although,it's own attraction- part walk through, part boat ride would be awesome!

It's actually "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" - it's based off the books, with the Quentin Blake illustrations and feel. It's not that good, it's a B ticket... C at the most.

But a ride based on the Burton version of "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" has potential to be A MAY ZING

I went on the Willy Wonka ride at Alton Towers a few years back, it was a relaxing boat ride followed by a trip in the glass elevator. They crammed loads of you in the elevator which was basically a simulator ride standing up, I wasn't that impressed, I'm sure Disney could do a better job:)

Slightly OT, but how was Alton Towers? I want to go ride the Th1rt33n roller coaster.

Th13teen is a good ride, the drop element is fun, the backwards helix is disorentating and the themeing is good. Although as most things in Alton Towers it's a bit short in length and short in stature too!!
