what started as the Africa pavillion was apparently scrapped and turned into a hut with some bongo drums, there to this day!
Where is the hut and bongo drums?

Also, what countries would people like to see in the world showcase? Personally I think India would be interesting.

Right before Germany when walking from the Mexico side.

I think it being used to house special events. Last time i was there, i saw alot of people in tuxes going back to it.
sooo, basically a money making facility that would no interest for you and me...... in which turns out to be a waste of space.

:D

until they tear it down and build the rafting edition that has been rumored for a long time.

Here's a good question?

Will EPCOT security build a fence enclosing Mexico from Norway and future world? :drevil:

I'd rather see a few rides and updated attractions rather than more countries. World Showcase needs at least two more rides in the area, and at least one needs to be better than what we got at Norway which is currently the best ride in WS.

Also, if you look at a map, you will notice that none of the countries are near their neighbors (China/Japan, Germany/France/UK)
actually, look again, France to the south, is divided from the UK to the north by the English Channel (and you thought that bridge was just there to let the boats pass under, ha! THEMING! Brilliant!

Ha! how true, now they just need a 'chunnel ride'.

At one time, the plans were to have all the countries next to their neighbors.

The U.S. was planned to be at the entrance of World Showcase (between Canada and Mexico). When they decided on the American Adventure show, they decided it would not fit in a modern building and placed it on the other side of the lagoon.

In early testing, no one could tell the difference between Japan and China, so they split them up.

And Morocco was added later, but there is a Straight of Gibralta in the concrete separating Europe from Africa.

I've often thought about this and wondered how much political history went into choosing the countries.

I would be interested in knowing this as well. I still think that as big and significant as Russia is, its ommission from the WS is almost certainly due to the Cold War Rivalry of the 80's.

Hopefully they will add more countries to WS. What was the last country added, Norway? I'd like to see Russia, Greece, Spain, India. They could build beautiful pavilions for all of those countries; St. Basil, the Taj Mahal, the Parthenon. They would be great additions to the WS skyline.

Russia

Actually, WDW was in talks with the USSR back in the 80's to have a pavillion in Epcot, but couldn't come to an agreement due to the Soviet government wanting the pavillion to promote Communist ideals and Disney wanting the pavillions to remain non-political.
