Will WDW change to compare with Dubailand?

I know this is just a joke but could we try to stop being so close minded!! This is why people across the world hate Americans.

They don't hate us because of our message board posts. They hate us because we let our women citizens walk around in public with their legs and faces exposed. We also let women vote. And we let men who don't own property vote too, they hate us for that. We are also hated because we allow citizens to practice whichever religion they choose. And we have schools where the sexes are allowed to be educated together. We are also hated because each citizen is allowed to choose their representative on both the local and federal level, and each citizens vote is counted the same regardless of clan or property or race.

Did I mention the women allowed to vote thing? Okay, just checking. How about the one where we are hated because we allow women to own property and buy and sell shares in publicly traded companies?

Those are a few of the reasons why Americans are hated and why radical Muslims would like to kill us. But then they also want to kill the English, the French, the Germans, the Russians and the Japanese. Or anyone who is not Muslim. But at some point, once they've killed all those people for all of those reasons, perhaps they'll get around to sifting through this message board so they can be offended by our legit discussion about the absurdity of Dubailand ever being a competitor for Walt Disney World.

Maybe they'll hate us for that too.

Call it what you want but I for one am concerned. Look to the right of the picture. What is that? Are they including the Space Shuttle as an amusement ride? Now that's an E-Ticket ride! Wait line got to be a killer. Fastpass maybe? Dubailand - entertainment complex and spaceport - coming soon.

I can see my Disney stock dropping already.

I laugh at everyone who says Dubailand won't attract visitors because, being in the Middle East, it will be a prime terrorist target. Meanwhile, there's a no-fly zone around WDW...because it's a prime terrorist target. And strangely enough, WDW is NOT in the Middle East.

Someone else mentioned the wall to protect it from sandstorms. I can think of at least one city that would appreciate a huge wall to protect it from Mother Nature at her crankiest, and WDW has been known to close in the event of hurricanes, too.

Where I start to wonder about Dubailand being successful (if ever completed) is how many tourists such a complex would attract, especially in regards to theming. This might be my nationalism or xenophobia talking, but it's one thing to build a bunch of thrill rides, and they could be very well be big and awesome. But if they attempt to theme it, would something be lost in translation? Because Western culture has become so prevalent (especially Disney), I'd think it would be easier for foreign visitors to come to WDW and appreciate the attempt to tell a story, as well as the thrill of the attractions themselves. Would American & European visitors be as appreciative of stories told from a Middle Eastern POV? Or would we stand around, bored, waitnig for the thrill to occur? I would also think that such a complex would not be easily affordable to what locals, if any, are around. I could be wrong, but I thought in most areas of the Middle East, there's either abundant wealth, or poverty, and very little "middle class." Unless the entire park is built as some sort of massive tax write-off, I can't imagine it ever making the money necessary to be successful if the parks' attractions aren't extremely Western/Euro friendly. And even then, for a lot of Americans to even consider going, the price would have to be consistent with what a WDW would cost, with a feeling that you would get an entertainment complex of a comparable quality and customer servie of comparable quality as well. It's a tall order for a start-up company nowadays, especially in the middle of nowhere with people who aren't in the theme-park business, no matter how much of a bank roll they have.

But then again, darn near every idea Walt had was considered crazy before he did it, so who am I to question?

It still would not be Disney. Disney is more then a theme park, it is a part of people's childhood and memories. This is something many other parks dont and wont ever understand.
But on the other hand... This might be a great opportunity... Dream, Dream, Dream...

hmm

Everybody is saying it won't attract people. But thats wrong dubai already does attract an awful lot of people from europe.

This will not hurt wdw or Disney Land in California but this does have the potential to hurt the other Disney Parks in the other countries.

Ok, I did not take time to read all 4 pages of replies. But I say this.

This park will not hinder WDW because

1) WDW is a classic
2) This is not to sound raciest but with whats going on in the world today, would an ARAB vacation really be the first thing on your list?

Being a classic hasn't got anything to do with it... just money...

And Yes... it sure does sound racist... which is not appriciated...

Seems like some people are lumping this country in with Iran and Afgahnistan for some reason. Are Canada, the US, and Mexico all the same because we're on the same continent? Would you ever say that Germany is just like Spain because they're both in Europe?
Here, read about Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates, then come back and discuss. Its cool, we'll be here.

Ok, back? Alright then, cool.

Its interesting, i wonder where they're going to pull talent for all this themed entertainment. I'm sure that some of the staff will be former Imagineers. I have no doubt that this will be a great tourist destination. The "eco tourism" angle alone will be huge. That could be fascinating. But as a whole, the project just seems muddled, and lacking a clear focus. And as others have said before, it lacks the history and "Magic" of Disney. Disney's parks feel authentic and organic, this place just sounds like marketeering.

A classic means everything. (read alot of the threads in this site about old attractions being closed)

Only to you.

My comment was in NO WAY racist. I simply stated fact that most people in the world today look down on the Arab people becasue of whats going on.

So have a magical day

Guess who got reported today...

People say things that may offend some people all the time. If it's not a comment made directly at an individual, why not ignore things you don't agree with?

Can't we all just get along...?:drevil:

I don't think its racist at all. I think the average american wouldn't wanna go anywhere near the middle east. Its like walking into the lions den! It would be a prime terrorist target. I think its likely that it will recieve tons of terrorist threats when it opens. Not only that, but it would be insanely expensive for the average american to go.
