Will the fact Florida has a "stand your ground" law prevent you from vacationing in Florida?

I do not wish to start a political discussion please. Does the fact Florida has a stand your ground law cause you to worry about vacationing here? This was just asked on our local new station and I wonder if it would change plans for any wdwmagic members. Personally since I live in Florida I am happy they have laws to protect someone who is defending themselves but realize this may not be the case in other states/countries. I would always consider the laws before vacationing in areas with very strict laws governing women, attire and religious activities but wonder if other's do/would take local laws into consideration before planning a vacation? Please feel free to step in Mom if you feel this question will cause controversy.

To answer the question, no, we don't consider those types of local laws when choosing a vacation destination. Even if we did, we'd likely be skewed towards SYG states vs. non-SYG states. Additionally, I find it kind of opportunistic on the part of the "news" agencies for interviews to even be conducted about this subject matter. KWIM? They're fishing for particular opinions and people to light up their airwaves. Someone should hand them a golden spoon award...stirring up the sh...... nevermind.

So very true. I love how the nation is in an uproar about this when it was not even used in the defense. If people really want to make a change they need to look at the DA's office. They were the ones that screwed this whole thing up by swinging for the fences on a charge they knew they could not prove.

lol, I don't even think Disney employees are allowed to have weapons in their trunks on Disney property.

Florida law allows you to bring your weapon to work and leave it in the car with a few exceptions such as schools and places where explosives are stored. Disney was trying to use the fireworks as a way to keep employees from bringing weapons on their property. I don't know how it turned out though.

I find the stand your ground laws to be a reason to come to Florida. It should be that way in all 50 states.

No. I actually kinda like it.

And I come from the only state that residents still cannot conceal carry.
And by the time our state complies with the Federal Order to allow
conceal carry here, and our legislators write a book of exceptions, likely
it will still be illegal to carry in Illinois.

Right now there is a backlog of 6-9 months just to get a Foid Card. I'd likely be too
old to lift a weapon by the time I could ever get a Foid and then a Carry Card.

I hear ya.... we don't really want to visit Chicago or even Rockford these days. It's like the wild west. I've had the training and FOID for quite awhile, but can't use it. Illinois is always YEARS behind the rest of the country.

Rockford has been kinda ewe for a while, my aunt lives there. Chicago is a wonderful city in certain areas. My DD and I went into the City last week and had a wonderful time. We went to Buckingham Fountain, the Lincoln Park (free) Zoo, Taste of Chicago and the MagMile. It is so clean in those areas and a ton of museums to visit that are among the best in the Country. Navy Pier is a blast. You just need to stay in that quad of the City. Other areas are also charming too but then you need to know where and when to travel through those areas.
I worked downtown for a while before I was married it is an exciting place to be. Now I live with the corn and soybeans.

NO!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely Not Going in September!!!!!!!!!!
There's always one in the group, :arghh:. It was, as another poster stated, probably just a way for the news to stir up the locals. When I heard this was the subject of their story I thought, "that's absurb, no WDW lover's will be run off over SYG laws" and it appears I was right. I had other things to do and didn't get to see their "in depth" coverage but probably didn't miss much. Thanks for playing along, just wanted to see if I was totally out of touch with reality or not, being originally from Texas my husband received his first rifle for his 10th birthday and was in the infantry for 21 years so we are not "gun shy", yes, I crack myself up:cool:

Thank you, it was my pleasure! At times I miss the "military lifestyle", the close knit friends, the commissary, being able to go bowling and to the movies cheap on post but can honestly say I am glad we are done, I will not miss the deployments and the constant worry. Being married to a Ranger that has done everything but HALO school was difficult (I put my foot down at high altitude low opening jumps). And I agree, if you let other's influence your decisions or tell you what to do, you might never live life to it's fullest!
