I'm not sure if you were just grasping at straws, or if you truly didn't understand what the walk-thru Pirates wax museum....

Yeah, I am aware of the wax museum concept. While it worked out for the best, it was still a complete work stoppage as you were describing above. And unlike any stoppage on the Toontown ride, there was an actual negative impact to the guest experience, as the giant hole that would become New Orleans Square, ate up formally guest accessible park area and just sat useless for years. Kinda marred the view from the treehouse too.

Grasping at straws would be trying to differentiate this work stoppage from your speculated stoppage in Toontown without knowing the outcome. We know that it worked out for the best in Pirates, and it will probably work out better for Toontown.

That is, if the stoppage is even happening. Did you stop by Harbor Blvd to see if they are still working today?

The ride is a lift of what will be opening shortly in Florida. It’s not being reconsidered or redesigned.

I see the seriousness of the situation, even unprecedentedness, but I don't see any validity to a nefarious "Aren't the Bobs the worst!" political angle.

An unavoidable, big financial hit is coming from China. Would it sound better for them to keep these projects moving along but cut back on park hours and let U.S. part-time employees go? I think kicking a couple of construction cans from one year to the next is a lot better.

But some people won't be satisfied unless the only thing Disney does about it is have Iger declare that he's going without pay until the situation is over.

I think it’s really embarrassing for a company as large and profitable as Disney to cut or halt already announced projects for no reason other than to save money.

Suck it up and eat some lost profit for god sakes. You’ve already asked people to get excited about these projects. Now they’re basically saying never mind, you can’t have it cause we’re not okay with only making 6.5 billion this year instead of 6.8.

Disney’s grandparents ought to take them to the local bank and help them open a savings account so they can start planning for something more than 2 months from now. That way if unexpected things happen, which they’re bound to cuz $h!t, I mean “MAGIC” happens, they will be prepared and won’t have to hit the panic button and look petty and cheap.
How about entire hotel projects at Downtown Disney that was going to happen and didn't? But in this case, Disney was going to make it's money anyways from hotel rooms unlike attractions which are indirect ways to make money via admission or merchandise.

Back to earth... big projects are always cancelled. The bottomline stuff is hard for some to realize. Anyone who okays a project that has potential of losing profit is out of the job, which the actual pain of okaying it in the first place. Do you want to lose your job just because customers ask you to?

Or, they could muster up the gumption and soldier on with maintaining the guest experience and ongoing projects. They don’t have to make cuts but they don’t have the courage or understanding of the business to explain the situation.

What is wrong with that? ;)
In reality that isn't that much money considering the corporate budget.

You have absolutely no way of knowing that this is a budget cut, versus some other issue, let alone if its even happening at all. The idea that it should automatically be assumed it's a budget cut due to poor management shows the bias here. You shouldn't be so eager to assume the worst based on a faulty premise.

Since when are you the source of all that I know?

Some of my friends at Disney World aren't getting any hours this week, seems that the cast cuts are already in progress.
Probably just a slow time of year. :cautious:

It's Presidents Day week. Many schools are off for the entire week now (which boggles my mind!). It's a very busy week in the parks for both coasts, and has been for years now.

Currently at 5pm Florida with the wait times on the downward slide from their peak afternoon waits;

Kilimanjaro Safaris - 210 Minutes
Space Mountain, Avatar Flight of Passage - 155 Minutes
Snow White's Mine Train - 145 Minutes
Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Rock N' Roller Coaster, Soarin', Slinky Dog Coaster - 90 Minutes
Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Millennium Falcon: Target Run, Expedition Everest - 70 Minutes

Yeah, I knew that. I was just poking fun at the idea of Disney cutting back on hours during such a busy week.

Ohhh! How stupid of me!

Well, at least I got a chance to fire up the old WDW App on my phone to check up on them out there. 🤣

And don't even get me started on those ridiculous wait times! Serves them right for trying to run theme parks that only have a half dozen rides in each one.

No, I let the kids do that.

You are new here, but back in 2018 I was the elder statesman who was trying to bribe college guys at Fullerton Junior College with pizza and beer money to fly a drone over Star Wars Land construction and take pictures for us. I'm not about to go walking around a busy freeway overpass for construction photos.

But your point is well taken. We don't even know yet if this is actually work that is being stopped. But I brought up the ability to see directly into the construction site from Harbor Blvd., since I'm sure some blogger will go take some photos from that location if the rumors persist that work has indeed stopped (or is about to) on that new ride.

Thankfully, I don't think either of us will be caught wandering Harbor Blvd late at night... Someone in the other thread found the City of Anaheim website where the permits are still showing work/inspection activity occuring: Status: Permit Status. Note: don't search Google for MMRR at Disneyland unless you want to learn a lot more about measles.

Dang this is making me worry, I'm waiting for my decision for the DCP and I applied to both parks and I'm sure this is all having a negative impact on how many people they let into the program. I've been waiting for 3 weeks now and still nothing.

Thank you, that's a handy link to have! And I'm all up to date on my MMR shots.

I'm no expert at modern construction and permitting, but I can see that you can't just shut an active site like this down on a moment's notice. It will probably take weeks, if not months, to ramp down construction on this facility to place it safely and effectively into a state of hibernation. I'd imagine if the permits and inspections stop within 30 or 45 days from now, we'll have our answer.

Until then, I'll let some neckbeard blogger wander around a noisy and dirty freeway overpass to take pictures for us.

I read an interesting article in The Atlantic this morning, basically describing the nearly entire collapse of the tourism industry in Southeast Asia this winter and looking ahead to spring. https://www.theatlantic.com/interna...omy-coronavirus-myanmar-china-tourism/606715/

Which comes as no surprise since basically no Chinese citizen can leave Communist China to travel abroad, and no one who doesn't have to would try to enter Communist China for the forseeable future. But the impact to the tourism-dependent economies of Southeast Asia is severe; Thailand is expecting to see 0.3% of its GDP disappear this quarter because of the lack of Chinese tourists.

SoCal is far less dependent on Chinese tourism than Thailand is, but it's been reported the luxe shopping areas like Rodeo Drive and South Coast Plaza are seeing big drops in their stores and boutiques. And still both Disneylands in China are closed without a peep when they may reopen. o_O

Yes
With the CDC announcing today they're preparing for a coronavirus crisis in the US, wondering how this will impact DLR (and WDW, as well as everything) over the next few months.

Planning a trip in late May and definitely started having conversations around postponing our trip depending on what happens over the next month. I wonder if we will start to see travel slow down in the upcoming weeks ahead of a potentially dismal summer.
