Sadly the only thing they think is special anymore is some new merch. Not even a new afternoon parade at MK to celebrate the 40th, they have lost the sparks of creativity.

I don't want to be a devil's advocate for disney, but new 2 year celebrations every 2 years is just getting old. If they do a 40 year for MK next year, then they should have a 30 year for epcot in 2012, a 15 for ak in 2013, a 25 for dhs and tl in 2014 20 year anniversary in 2015 for blizzard beach and a 45 year anniversary for WDW in 2016.

I'm still holding out hopes for some announcement timed to coincide with the D23 event or even earlier. As of today, we're still a full 8 months out until Oct 1, and I would assume that a 40th Anniversary Celebration would last at least 18 months, overlapping the 30th Anniversary of Epcot on Oct 1, 2012 (heck it could last a full two years including the Epcot anniversary.) I just can't imagine the Walt Disney Company passing on the opportunity to hype the 40th of Walts greatest dream. It's my bet that lips are tightly sealed regarding details of the 40th. So far the 40th merch has been incredible and the logo itself is great. And the MK is certainly getting alot of TLC lately. Some of you may think I'm crazy, but yes, I'm holding my breath on this one. Signs seem to point to something brewing in the back room and I really think that it's going to be big; a new daytime parade, a return of Spectro at night, a new castle show, and the new "talking" articulated heads on all the characters in the parks. And if they were really going to go big, some announcements about future additions and enhancements to the rest of the World. Add this to the phased-in opening of the new Fantasyland in 2012 and the spotlight might swing back from a certain Wizard named Potter. It's suspiciously quiet regarding WDW management and the 40th. I'm not a fortune teller, but if I had some spare bucks to place a wager, I'd bet we're all going to be pleasantly surprised in the near future.

New MK Daytime Parade
New Stage Show
New Fireworks
Modifications to The Magic, The Memories and You
Enchanted Tiki Room restored to Tropical Serenade (Hey, I can dream can't I?)
All opening day attractions receive some kind of enhancement for the 40th

Over at Epcot...

Enhanced version of Illuminations
Revival of Tapestry of Nations
Updated Imagination Attraction
Soarin' Over the World
Announcement of new E-Ticket to replace Wonders of Life

That's easily doable as a 40th celebration.

Ohhh..I SO hope you are right. But I don't see anything forthcoming. You would think by now they would be teasing that something would be coming up (after all, they do want people to be making plans to travel if something is). I just don't see it happening. I think it has become pretty apparent the last few years that management is far more interested in the business aspect of the company than the entertainment angle. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we never see another birthday celebration again. Sad, but I think it's true...

I have bad feeling that others are correct the only celebrating for 40 years is from a merchandise stand point. I didn't recall any special celebrations for the 30,35th for Walt Disney World either in terms of special parades. The only thing I recalled was merchandise that said 30 or 35th.

The only thing that could happening during the 40th at this time appear to be parts of Circus Storyland and parts of New Fantasy Land having an opening during in 2012 before WDW turns 41 in October 2012.

I am guessing the next big Celebration Disney will have for Walt Disney World is their 50th.

Well I heard somewhere that Spectro may return around September... So maybe that could be a clue to something for the 40th?

I would imagine the 50th for WDW will be huge!! At least it better be!

I was just thinking that for the 40th, a new parade featuring WDW itself might be a great way to celebrate. There could be a dedicated float, featuring attractions, from each land in the MK, add a float for the Poly, one for the Contemporary and one for Ft Wilderness and you could have a heck of a parade. There used to be a song called "Disney World is Your World", if updated, would make a great soundtrack for the parade. Float designs have certainly been improved (check out the Flights of Fantasy Parade at HKDL here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHDVa3h-oeo&feature=player_embedded#t=0s and just imagine what WDW could do. I wish I worked in creative at WDW entertainment.
