Wildlife Express Train closing?

Looking at Google maps, The train going away would not give any new land to Asia as to the west is the safari area and to the east is a large vacant field save for a few small buildings that Asia is also up against, the nearest train tracks to Asia are actually near Flights of wonder/yak and yeti and that is to their west. The main part of the rind encircles Conservation way an access road that you run on for almost any Disney race that goes into AK.

I couldn't find another thread on this, so I apologize if this has already been discussed elsewhere...

Since today is National Train Day, I spent a moment or two reading up about the various Disney railroads. While reading about the Wildlife Express Train on Wikipedia, I noticed that the entry states that it is closing on June 1, 2014.

Now, whether Wikipedia is reliable or if that entry was edited by one of the resort bus drivers, I can't say. But it did make me wonder. If it's true, then it seems to transitively apply to Rafiki's Planet Watch (or else there'll be some other means to transport guests to RPW).

Anybody know anything about this or is Wikipedia wrong?

I edited to have it close in 2026, were good for a while.

It will happen eventually, but I doubt so soon. Nothing's come up recently.
Are they planning on doing something new with the area, or would they just close it and replace it with nothing?

I wish they'd build a train track around the perimeter of the entire park that stops at different lands like the Magic Kingdom like parks. I'd love that to happen. Would be a nice long ride, would work fine thematically, and provide a nice quick and relaxing way to get to different parts of the park.

I always thought the train was kinda neat the way it seats passengers. I'll be sad to see it go. If they could just do more w/ Rafikis Planet Watch, it might be a spectacular part of the park to visit! I enjoy it, but it's not my favorite.;)

OK. Now can you change the part on the Horizons Wiki page that says it closed and was dismantled. ;)

Thank You!!!!!

Editing the page will change reality too, right?

And provide more to do in a park which begs for more to do. Love this idea.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

I think there's a lot more "Disney guts" at DAK which would be hard to hide with a perimeter track.
Wouldn't bother me though. I LOVE Disney guts. At least once/trip, we take the road that goes up the right side of MK, and then make a couple of lefts and come down the opposite side. Lots of behind the scenes Disney guts on view.
Same reason I love Astro Orbitor.

I never liked the idea of the train, I guess it's kind of neat for people to see backstage, but it openly destroys the "realism" of Kilimanjaro Safaris.
I never trust anything on Wikipedia for the fact that anyone can add anything to the site whether its true or false.
Wikipedia has been shown to be about as accurate as "actual" encyclopedias. Just be leary of recent edits - they get edited out anyway if they're wrong.

I'm a frequent editor of Wikipedia, and for reasons I don't understand, Disney-related pages are by far some of the most inaccurate and poorly-written pages I come across. Whenever I leave the main "Disneyland" and "Walt Disney World" pages and get into the more obscure Disney subject articles, I always groan when I see the huge task of editing and correcting ahead. Lots of made-up "predictions" like these, false conclusions made from vague announcements, and just plain wrong information all over the place. It's really perplexing and no other subjects I read about are quite like this.

I blame the CPs.

The road called Conservation Way on Google Maps is the main access road into Asia (it's the only way into the backstage areas of the Yak and Yeti, Flights of Wonder and Maharajah Jungle Trek) plus it provides access to many of the animal barns for the Safari, the shops in Africa and it's the way most of the safari trucks get onto their ride path. Getting rid of the train would free up virtually no land because this road takes up most of the space inside the loop. Rafiki's is going nowhere, it's going to be an important part of the upcoming Wilderness Explorers thing and is in the midst of a slight, gradual remodel. Plus it will be the new home of at least a couple soon-to-be homeless characters. Also, the petting zoo seems to be getting more new animals than the rest of the park combined lately.
