We will be going to WDW this September and staying at Wilderness Lodge. We've never been to the WL at all. Could you tell me all about it. And BTW this will be our first deluxe stay! Thanks in advance.

Its a fantastic resort with great restaurants. We have tried other resorts, but keep coming back to the WL. There have been many threads about it so a quick search should bring up a few and hopefully all your questions will be answered.

The rooms at Wilderness Lodge were very recently refurbished and therefore very nice. They were small, though.

My favorite aspect of the Resort was renting bikes and going on the trails over to Fort Wilderness and exploring over there. Have fun, you'll enjoy the place.

Thanks

You will love the resort, taking the boat ride to MK or Contemporary is really relaxing.

Make sure to go and watch the geyser at least 1 time. It goes off every hour. Go to the 4th floor balcony for a great view of the pool, lakes and geyser. There are little cubby holes with couches and makes for little private areas usually near a fireplace. They are nice if you want to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

WL is our favorite. From the "welcome home" as we drive up, to the rush of cold air as the huge doors open, to the giant lobby.

Then there is the huge fireplace, the porch and the rockers, the spring that leads to the creek that leads to the pool.

The geyser, the whirlpools, the Electric Water Pageant, the quiet hideaways in the halls, the view of the Magic Kingdom and woods on one side, Bay Lake and the pool.

The fantastic background music loop that greats you when your bus returns you to the hotel

The Trout Pass pool bar, the Territory Lounge, the Artist Point, the Whispering Canyons and my son's favorite, the Roaring Forks

The trek to the boat landing, the ride to the Magic Kingdom, the great view as you return at night.

This IS where you want to be!

Wilderness Lodge is awesome... we went there some 9 years ago and this year we had our choice to stay anywhere we wanted... so when we were at the travel agency I figured I had already been there so let me try someplace else... I picked Animal Kingdom first, but then opted not to since we wanted the rooms with view of animals and it was a little pricey (and it wasnt my money either) so then I opted for the Contemporary. I always thought the Contemporary was one cool lookin resort... and we headed home after making our reservations. Well I dont think I was home more then 20 minutes and started thinking about how the Contemporary doesnt have much of a theme per-say so I thought... ya know... Wilderness Lodge really was great... great rooms... great service... great resturants... great boatride to MK... great theme... great staff... did I mention all these things were great??? :D

Anyway, I was on the phone within a half hour of getting back from the agency and told her to ditch the Contemporary and hook me up with Wilderness Lodge. We got ourselves a woodsview room and hoping that it was like 9 yrs ago and we were able to watch the fireworks from our balcony on a few nights... was like an added bonus. Im also hoping to be able to get to be the flag family and want to ask about it the day we get there. Flag families get to hang out with a Ranger and go onto the roof of the WL and get a short history lesson about WDW and WL as you raise 5 flags... American Flag, State of Florida Flag, Walt Disney World Resort Logo Flag and two Wilderness Lodge Resort Logo Flags.

I have even read that some lucky families get treated to a wonderful breakfast at one of the resturants. :sohappy:

WL is our favorite resort. We were lucky to be the Flag Family on our last trip. It was an awesome experience!!!!! Along with the great experience, the the rooftop view and all the photos you wish to take, you get a flag family certificate. We did get to enjoy our breakfast on the concierge floor.

We have tried stay at different resorts, but we keep coming back to WL!!!

This September will mark are 10th year in a row getting to stay at WL. We love it. We usually stay at on of the value's for a few days and switch to WL. My vacation never really feels like it starts until we drive up to the Lodge. This year will be the first year that we get to stay all 10 days at the lodge!

The pool is great. Make sure you try the water slide.

We have stayed at the WL and absolutely love it. It's one of our favorites. We had a pool view once which was really nice. You can take the boat to MK from there. We must have had our timing right because once when we took the boat back from MK we were able to see the fireworks from the MK. It was beautiful. Our boat capitan was nice enough to "go slow" so that we could all enjoy the show.

Have a great time. There is so much beauty at the WL to enjoy.

We were lucky enough to stay on the concierge floor at WL. Wow! What a treat! Since then we've stayed at the WLV on nunmerous occasions. (There used to be a great family recreation package at the Boat dock- not anymore.................)

Don't miss the work-out room in the Villas part. There are some great areas to chill out in the Villas building.

My favorite WL activity/moment was the Duck races. I don't even know if they still have them. They have rubber duckie races in the stream that leads from the lobby to the pool. Each child is assigned a number of a duckie. All ducks are dropped in the stream- the kids are encouraged to "quack" along to make their duck go faster. The winner gets a prize- that day it was 1/2 hour on the water crafts at the dock. Woo-hoo!

Don't forget to check at the desk by the store- they sometimes have calendars with special events listed. (Tours of the resort, etc.)
