Wilderness Lodge DVC additions - Copper Creek Villas & Cabins

Because you clearly misunderstand why people stat at Walt Disney World resorts in the first place. They're not staying for amenities and service and a superior hotel. If that were the case, the Four Seasons would certainly be the better choice. It's a really really nice hotel that looks and feels... like a really really nice hotel. Wilderness Lodge is a quite nice hotel that looks and feels like a wilderness lodge. That's the difference. It's that robust theming that creates a sense of place and transports you to another world. That enhances the "bubble" vibe of WDW, which is what many people look for when escaping the "real world." The Four Seasons is gorgeous, but you'll never be fooled into thinking you're anywhere other than a really nice hotel in Orlando.

It's like... the Bizarro roller coaster at Six Flags New England is a "better" roller coaster than Space Mountain in terms of speed and thrills. But not once when you ride it are you transported to another place and time like you are when you're walking down the tunnel of Space.

Totally agree with you.
Some people just don't get it.

Agreed completely.

Yes, there was a reduction in rooms.
Not sure what exactly that space was used for.
But the actual room footprint size didn't change. That's a main reason no 1 or 2 bedroom options are available in those buildings.
It definitely does pose an issue for "reconverting" the smaller Wilderness Lodge rooms to DVC.
Well, if it is truly just re-configuring the rooms then, you have to deal with what you have. There's no making the rooms bigger unless you are willing to rip out walls, which is a lot more expensive than necessary.

However, a potential upside to doing that and making the studios bigger would be marketing and selling Wilderness Lodge AGAIN. Sure, they'll have the cabins and additional dining facility to advertise, but as far as studios go, if they are similar or the same in size as the pre-existing DVC rooms, it's not a major selling point. Like I said though, sometimes you have to work with what you have.

I think the Poly hotel rooms were already larger. Don't think they knocked out all the inside walls to make them larger.
They did something. There was a pic, perhaps here? perhaps over on Tikiman's pages, with a shot straight through the converted building, there were no walls, most likely just supports.

Sneak pic through curtains at WL have shown their initial conversion room(s) to have the walls ripped down. To my eyes it looked like they were configuring 2 bedroom units.

when you rebuild a hotel, even with the same configuration, most places will level the room. replacement to the concrete and steel ensures that any mold lingering will be removed. no funny smells, no bugs hiding in the walls. easier to replace it all then to work with what is there now (esp if they have to work on plumbing upgrades on that floor and the one above...)

That was a great explanation. Also, I would pick a Disney hotel over the Four Seasons any day, now having been there. It is beautiful and all, but it still seems cold and very isolated. I'll take a well themed hotel instead.

Also, I have never felt like I didn't belong somewhere so much before than when we were visiting that resort. It just wasn't a good vibe. I have never felt like that in the Disney resorts. I just feel that Disney has gone too high with the prices. But I guess since people keep paying, like myself, they will keep going up. I'll just shut up now.

There was a new permit submitted to the South Florida Water Management District for this project last week. Orginally Disney had planned to offset the wetland impacts through the purchase of wetland impacts from the Reedy Creek Mitigation Bank, but this permits changes the original permit so that all the impacts will be offset by existing approved impacts on site.

Thanks for the update. I'm now curious what they'll be tearing up first.
As anticipated, It's the pool they're working on first.

We have pics on our Facebook site of what they are tearing up first.
You should add a link to your FB page ;-)

That said, I'm not interested in seeing destruction of a place I hold in my memories as a great place to have been. Call me when the construction begins.

I drove by the Lodge today and there's a pretty substantial amount of tree clearing between the main building and Bay Lake on the West side. You can easily see that wing of the resort from World Drive while driving by...or on the monorail.

I also saw from the monorail the large swath of trees that were removed. Very excited to see what these cabins look like.

We walked through the Poly several times on this trip. I really love that resort, and the deluxe studio rooms in the DVC long houses are great. I have a feeling that this addition/expansion of DVC here is going to be great. I remember there being talk of a new restaurant and lounge. Spirit one time also talked about Artist Point being redone (that one I would welcome as I think it is a terrible restaurant personally).
