Wilderness Lodge DVC additions - Copper Creek Villas & Cabins

I know it is impossible to prevent every non-hotel guest from entering, but it will at least deter some people. I know people stand at the gates at the Poly waiting to be let in, but you can always tell them they need to scan their band and not let them in. Sorry, for those paying premium $ to stay at a Deluxe (And DVC members), they should have exclusive rights to the pool.
At the Beach Club, not only do you scan your band, but you need to wear a separate wristband. It's not that hard.

Oh, of course the fence deters people. I'm not going to deny that.

But it's like anything in life. If someone wants to do something bad enough, they'll make it happen.

It's impossible for the gates/scanners to stop non-hotel guests from entering the pool area. People are constantly going in and out which means the gate is always opening.

Point being, it's very easy to get in.

Yep if the fence was to stop pool hoppers it would have a turnstyle on it. But the fence is mainly there to try and stop people from swimming/drowning when the pool is closed.

By reducing the numbers in a pool it greatly helps the lifeguards keep track of what's going on in the pool. I'd say it's an equal benefit between on and off hours for Disney safety and security.

Hope the new pool looks amazing and they keep the bubbling springs features.

DVC via a phone call claims the pool will be 70% larger. Maybe it's just me, as I tend to only visit Oct-Dec, but the pool does not need that much of a size increase as it's never that busy. Certainly, I could be horribly underestimating how much more busy it is right about now in the middle of the summer. and it should be 100-200% larger than it currently is.

I've been at VWL the past two Independence weeks, enjoying the HS pool as much as possible and can support your thoughts. Although the chairs can be a bit hard to come by around 1pm (simply dues to the chair savers) the pool itself is never crowded. The pool does not need a size increase. My thoughts are that either the HS pool may have a structural need to be rebuilt that we're not aware of, or DVD is trying to add 'amazing' features to the lodge that will get folk more interested in it from a DVC sales point of view. Most likely the latter. The result will look nice, I just hope they don't loose the 'hidden springs' flavor that is there now.

I will add one note: when the pools were cleared due to thunderstorm activity in the area typically groups of people would head into the Carolwood Pacific room in their bathing suits to wait out the storm. Were they just hanging out at the lodge after having checked out for the day? Were they simply enjoying the use of the room before heading back to their respective villas to change? Or were they something else? I can't say. I've never seen that behavior before and wonder if any of them were from offsite and this had anything to do with the feature pool being crowded.

Or is it simply that with the additional guests the new bungalow rooms will bring they want to make sure there is definatly enough pool capacity for everyone, by upgrading the Hidden Springs it should mean more guests here and less at Silver Springs main pool?

Absolutely true - that is possible. I still don't think the bungalows will add that many more guests to the resort, but if each were maxed out for occupancy it very well could.

I was there in mid June and the quiet pool was pretty empty. I personally don't think they needed to mess with it.

I believe part of the update to the pool is to turn it into a 2nd feature pool, so rock work, waterslide, the whole nine. It would need extra space if it isn't going to be a quiet pool anymore.

In the case of this pool, bigger is not better. Unless they feel the main pool is over capacity and poses a danger. I enjoyed the quiet pool for what is was named for, hidden and by default, quiet. Some folks like to cool off in a pool that isn't noisy with activity. Was nice having options like that. If they end up with two busy, loud pools, that's not really options as both are the same.

The best part of the Hidden Springs pool is being able to use it and the hot tub late at night...I'm assuming they will lock these down now like the main pool. I know we don't want folks drowning...but ugh.

Same thing is currently going on at the Poly, so it seems to be the new DVC standard. The main pool does get really crowded, so the added capacity will be nice (at both resorts).

So long one of the best pools to pool hop at.

Yes, adding for overflow. But for those of us who've considered the HS pool our home pool, its a heartbreaker to loose the 'quiet' aspect of the quiet pool. I was taught to improve on the best, not remove, and HS pool has so much going for it now, I can't imagine them improving upon it. It was as though the pool itself was the setting for a story:

Bridge like path at the 'welcome home' sign;
Bubbling 'springs' in both shallow and deep ends;
Beautiful, deep end;
Surrounded by trees - Hidden from view from most rooms, villas and the pathway.
