Wilderness Lodge DVC additions - Copper Creek Villas & Cabins

Funny, called down to Wilderness Lodge to try and get more info on the email they sent us about our August trip. They said nothing about what's being reported here (i.e. the bungalows, etc.), and would only say some minor exterior work was ongoing. While I'm sure that's true, don't see how that would impact "certain pathways, including the nature trail"?? Guessing they're starting to do the test borings as cited here a ways back.

Until Disney officially announces the construction and conversions to DVC taking place at the lodge, Cast members are not permitted to say anything about them. The cast member's response indicating only minor exterior work was ongoing, while it was incomplete, was as correct as they could be. The responses they are allowed to make at this time are limited.

Can someone who recalls remind me how long it took after ground breaking for Bay Lake Towers for Disney to admit there was work going on over there? I think the building was 90% completed before they admitted they could see it and it was to be named after a sandwich. :)

I thought I saw the anticipated completion date for Wilderness Lodge was 2018. I would imagine that's their next big plan for sales in DVC after Poly is dried up. So, I don't expect to hear much about DVC at Wilderness Lodge until into 2016.

We did this in January of this year. It wasn't too bad, we got a pin and some apps / ice cream out of it. It is a presentation followed by a tour of the Poly model and some apps/ice cream with Stitch. It was probably 90 minutes of our time.

When you "Call Wilderness Lodge" it's actually going to a call center, not the WL. I called a few weeks ago to the Poly and asked if the DVC there had one of the recreation rooms that all of the other DVC have and my answer was yes. When we checked in, we asked again and were told no. There was no recreation area to be seen in the DVC area.

Point being, take everything they say with a grain of salt, thy are going off of very little info and whatever info Disney decides to give them (and not all of them know everything).

Agreed. I called WL and asked if the Villa pool would be open next June and the CM said "Yes, they are only doing construction to the Hidden Springs Pool" not knowing that they are one and the same. Don't call CMs for construction info, they are just not informed or cannot talk about such topics.

I would be very surprised if the Hidden Springs Pool isn't back open by next June. It doesn't take THAT long to remodel a pool.

It should be. The timeline looks as through the spa will return in Feb and I would guess that means most of the construction in that immediate area (the pool) will be done. At least most of the noise will be over. I would expect the Feb time table to get pushed back a month or two (as with everything Disney does), but by June, I think it will be back open.

Indeed. The bulk of the nuisance after that point will be along the beach and I presume renovation of rooms in the main lodge to become villas. They will want and need two pools open by the time it gets really hot.

Not too worried about a fence on HS, but would really like to see SS pool get the magic band treatment. Too many people there that you could tell they were not guests. Especially the group of 10+ that sat next to us and one kid asked the parent what pool they were going to next.

Sickening, isn't it? It wouldn't be hard to add MagicBand scanners to the gates.

DVC members are allowed to pool hop.

It's impossible for the gates/scanners to stop non-hotel guests from entering the pool area. People are constantly going in and out which means the gate is always opening.

Point being, it's very easy to get in.
You would have to have someone standing at the gates. Doubtful that Disney finds this to be a big enough problem to do that.

They actually make more money if anything. Those extra bodies just means more people to potentially eat at Captain Cooks, stop by Trader Sam's, etc (Using The Poly as an example). I doubt they see it as a problem.

The only time they put a clamp on it is July 4th and Dec 31 when they know the pool area will be packed (Possibly to see the fireworks - again, speaking to places like The Polynesian... always have the poly on the brain lol).

Most of these lifeguards are college programmers. Last thing they want to do is police the gates and ask to scan magicbands. (Although i'm sure they like being able to turn away troublemakers.)

I know it is impossible to prevent every non-hotel guest from entering, but it will at least deter some people. I know people stand at the gates at the Poly waiting to be let in, but you can always tell them they need to scan their band and not let them in. Sorry, for those paying premium $ to stay at a Deluxe (And DVC members), they should have exclusive rights to the pool.
