My opinion, best resort in disney. There is so much to do there. The sing-a-long campfire with chip and dale for the kids. Rent a golf cart get up early and see all the wild life on property. You can fish. their are two swiming pools, game rooms. check disney's website for more i could go on. if you like the outdoors you wont be disappointed.

I stayed there for one night in April. The positives include the ability to sleep six people in one room. The negative to that is there is still only one bathroom, so that may not be such a blessing!

The cabins give the feeling of being away from it all. I like my Disney resorts to give me the feeling of being in the middle of it all.

The Ft. Wilderness resort has swimming pools, but they are unthemed and there are no waterslides or the pool amenities you get in the other nicer resorts.

There are nightly campfires and Chip -n- Dale make appearances and you can watch a Disney movie on a big screen. This may appeal more to young, young children who aren't going to have the energy to stay at the parks until closing, or who aren't going to be interested in Downtown Disney.

Transportation is time consuming and confusing. You walk to a bus stop, figure out the color coding for which loop to which area, and then catch a bus that takes you to one of two places where you then transfer to other transportation to where you are going, as I remember.

Ft. Wilderness is a different experience and is not for everybody. Be warned and you may love it or you may want to avoid it.

I stayed at the Wilderness cabins and think they are the best deal around. Especially if you have 5-6 people. I found the transportation to be just fine. We hopped a bus and took the boat to MK. At the time I went River Country was still open so we used that as our pool. There is a regular boring pool right near the cabins. Our cabin had updated interior quiet, nice. The maid did our breakfast dishes everyday! Such a deal. I'm staying at the Coronado this time. 3 more months till Disney!:sohappy:

I've stayed in the cabins three times over the last few years. They are comfortable large enough for a couple of kids, and give you a privacy that you cannot get at a Value or Moderate resort. The transportation system is a learned trick. Most parks have a one bus transfer at the marina area and the Magic Kingdom is just a ferry ride from the same bus transfer area. You also have one of the nicer family buffet restaurants at WDW, Trail's End. The food is good, plentiful, and will not break your wallet. In fact, if you have a large breakfast, then just a bite in the parks may hold you until dinner time. Enjoy the experience, start early in the day and don't worry about rushing around. There is no way to see it all in one trip anyway.

Thanks for the help so far. We are just looking in to a few things now, and since there will be 6 of us we are trying to decide if that would be a good option. We are thinking that it would be a nice alternative to a hotel.

You do get maid service everyday right?

My vote would be for the Ft. Wilderness Cabins, a bargin in my opinion!

There is 502 sq. feet of room! More than any other room in the resorts.
Very Nice, very clean, and Very Disney!

A separate bedroom for the little ones with a full size bed and twin bunk beds
and a pack~n~play in the closet
The living room has a double murhpy bed that pulls out

Central air conditioning, full kitchen ,nice bathroom and room service everyday.

The cabins are well place and you don't really feel you have neighbors on either side.. the lots are clean and wooded, and there is a deck and outdoor grill , that they come by and sweep out your coals, everyday!

The bus service is very efficient ( we hardly waited more than ten at the most at any time! They are not confusing, all the busses make a circuit around the resort. If there is a question just ask the driver when they stop.. I found them very helpful.

Bonus, ferry boat ride to the Magic Kingdom..

You can splurge and rent a golf cart to get around to either of the two pools or the Trading Post for last minute items.

good, inexpensive restaruant, not to Mention Hoop de Do Review.. the petting zoo, pony rides a stable to explore and meet the working horses on the Property.

Wild peacocks too! and a Albino one too!

Just my two cents, enjoy your trip, We did!

Yes you get maid service. They make the beds, clean any dishes in the dishwasher, and do general cleanup in the bathroom. Also check out disneycampers.com for all sorts of information on Ft. Wilderness.

This is completely accurate summing up both the good and bad. This was the only resort i stayed at from 1982 through 1994. My last trip however was my last. By this point we were all a bit older, i'm 32 now and my brothers are approaching 40, and the resort's transportation was the biggest problem and was quickly becoming too tiresome. The fact the resort has its own transportation system which takes you to Pioneer Hall, where the transportation to the parks is located, is way too time consuming. It used to be much faster when the tram system was used. But the use of a bus system slowed everything down a bit and limited seating at night. It is possible that the transportation has improved. You may want to investigate. I recall going to Epcot involved three types of transportation: the resorts internal bus, the bus to the TTC, and the monorail to epcot. HOpefully this has changed.

Otherwise, it is one of the most pleasant and fun resorts on Disney property.

There last April. Still requires 3 types of transport. Internal bus, bus to Transportation hub or Ferry to the Magic Kingdom, then the monorail. If you take the ferry to the Magic Kingdom then you have to switch monorail lines. Epcot is the only headache. The others only require a transfer from the internal bus to the bus to the parks or ferry to the Magic Kingdom. The plus with kids however is all you can do at the campground, from Mickey's backyard barbeque, swimming, horse back riding, the boats in the marina, Hoop-de-Doo revue, etc. If none of that is your thing, then one of the other resorts is probably your best bet and would be more to your liking.

I had wanted to get back here earlier today, but never had the chance until now.

I was at Ft. Wilderness the first week in July.

Depending on which Park we wanted to see that day, we would take a bus either to the Settlement/ Marina area or to the Outpost /checkin area.

The Ferryboat takes you directly to the front doors of Magic Kingdom. The Ferry system also goes to the Wilderness Lodge and possibly the Poly. There are two different ferry destinations. The dock is marked clearly which side you should wait on for each destination.
At the Magic Kingdom when you get off the boat we just walked up the hill to the entrance.

For ANY other Parks we took a bus from the same bus stop to the OutPost and Checkin area.. There a bus comes about every 20 minutes , picking up and dropping off, guest from each of the Parks. One from Epcot, a different one for MGM, and the same for each and every park.

The internal system which is the one you use to get transport either to the Outpost or to the Settlement/Marina is clearly marked.. Orange or Purple, until we were hip to the buses, we just asked the driver, cause they all stop at each bus stop.
This system Must be greatly improved from what it once was!!

It is a great experiece staying there. My family and I went to the grocery store and went shopping for food so we could make sandwiches and meals instead of going out to eat. It was real nice. Everyone in my family got a bed. My brother slept on the bed out in the den. My dad had the queen bed and me and my mom slept on the bunk beds. It was so fun and really nice to be out in the "wilderness".
